Description:
Mystified:
While making up our 'wish list' of songs for the Noel Project, I mentioned to Tom that I had an original Christmas composition that might work for the CD.
I dug out the smudged manuscript (written for a Theory assigment in college), and then proceeded to orchestrate it in GarageBand.
Thanks to Tom for going in and adding a few instrument fills here and there.
It was nice to resurrect this piece and hear it beyond a simple piano accompaniment.

Lyrics:
Holy Child, Blessed One
There's a child, a holy one.
God Our Father's blessed Son.
Born of Man, sent to Earth,
Child of noble birth.
Shepherd watching on the plains
Hear the angel's joyous strains;
Loud they sing, welcoming.
"Christ the Lord, Our Savior's come,
Blessed One!"
Glory, praise, anthems sing
Unto Christ, our King.
Wise men follow yonder star
Bearing gifts from afar
Bring Him treasures, myrrh and gold
Incense sweet, as foretold
As foretold...
He will all our sins forgive
Shed His blood so we might live
He will cleanse the Earth from sin,
Glory, laud, and honor win
Christ, Our Lord, our Father's Son
Holy Child, Blessed One.

Joy in a Minor Key &mdash 12/09/05 - 06:05:49 AM
I agree with Norman that this piece is "something special." Hard to believe is
was 'boxed up' for 20 years. Maybe it was just waiting for the right time?
Thanks for adding it to "Splendor Bright." A beautiful vocal.

Hi Tom:
Just wanted to congratulate you too, on a collaboration well done!

Beautiful song &mdash 12/09/05 - 04:37:39 PM
and beautifully done. I like the ambiguity of mode. Your voice is just right
for this. (of course, that makes sense, since you composed it). This would
be a nice Christmas anthem for a church choir or even a community choir.
Have you thought of publishing it in that form? [ Reply to This ]
We Are Proud &mdash 12/09/05 - 04:57:24 PM
The addition of this song to the ambitious undertaking of, "The Noel
Project - Splendor Bright", by Mystified and Tom Atwood, is
breathtaking. Your combined efforts, with the additions of Johannes
Cori Ander, Revolving Doris (Rebsie and William Shaw), and Scotty Hill
(MidiOrleans) is truly amazing.
Thank you for sharing this with the world!

Difficult to understand the words without following in the lyrics. Insipid
bells were annoying. On the other hand, voice is beautiful and
orchestration, particularly strings and piano, were elegant and tasteful. [ Reply to This ]
An Example... &mdash 12/10/05 - 07:48:58 AM
Of how tastes differ, so it's interesting to see your comments here, Alan.
You're the first to have said the words are difficult to hear. You are also the first
to complain about the bells. Others have commented that they liked their
addition? (To each their
own)
Also, there is no piano in the orchestration. What you likely hear is the harp.
Thanks for your comments. [ Reply to This ]
An Example... &mdash 12/13/05 - 03:17:50 PM
I've listened to it four more times and the content of the words flows more
easily. Whether that's from increased familiarity can't be determined. The bells
were still irritating. The fast decay renders them lifeless and that's an
unfortunate contrast against a fairly pretty song. --- Blog: Phantasmablogia - Certified free of pundits [ Reply to This ]
Thank you, everyone &mdash 12/10/05 - 07:57:52 AM
For your comments on this piece--both the critical and complimentary.
It is one of the more 'religious' pieces on the CD, and I want to thank
Tom for encouraging me to finish and include it in the Noel Project,
because I was hesitant at first.
It is also most meaningful to me as it is an original composition, and
I've never felt like much of a 'composer' as far as music theory is
concerned.
Kristyjo--thanks for your suggestion to publish this. I might just look
into that now.
And again, thanks to all who took the time to comment, to listen and,
especially, to download the song. The latter, especially, is the greatest
vote of confidence of all. [ Reply to This ]
Praise to God &mdash 12/10/05 - 05:31:06 PM
for giving you this song and the voice that makes it so special Mysti. I
love the chiming in of the bells; they add to the majesty of the piece.
Can't wait until I receive my copy of "Splendor Bright".
Merry Christmas,
Rick

tears in my eyes &mdash 12/12/05 - 10:57:16 AM
I'm amazed. Beautiful piece! Wow, what a voice. I felt as though I were
curled up against the manger. Seriously, though, as a self taught,
play-by-ear rather than scholastic compositional theory musician, I
marvel at the originality and emotive power of a well crafted piece of
music. I think you are a very talented 'composer'. [ Reply to This ]
Very Pretty. &mdash 12/14/05 - 05:23:05 PM
This is so nice. It's refreshing to hear a newly composed Christmas
song that still sounds traditional.
Myst- Your voice is perfect on this. If you ever need harmonies on any
of your tracks please think of me! I'd be honored to sing with you! [ Reply to This ]

If I ever meet, I'm going to look under your coat to see if you have
wings under there. You have the voice and manner of an angel.
And GOODNESS what a composer you are! [ Reply to This ]

More beautiful music &mdash 11/20/06 - 06:31:56 PM
I believe the vocalist on this song has one of the most beautiful voices I ever heard, the music adds so much to the true holiday meaning.
Thanks again,
