Description:
The Holly and the Ivy originates in Gloscestershire - a medieval folk tune apparently, with pagan roots.
I'm trying to get about seven or eight Christmas carols done to be played at my school. It's an education for me to do this - seeing how it all fits together and trying to create a different sound for an old tune. All midi with a goa trance drum beat.
Anyway - The Holly and the Ivy.

Hardware:
iMac G5, m-audio keystation

Software:
GB, various soft synths

In the spirit &mdash 12/09/05 - 01:33:40 PM
This gets me into the spirit of christmas. One of my more favorite christmas tunes...but hey I just about like them all. You make me want to pull down that old song book and lay down some christmas cheer in return. Thanks for sharing.

Regards
John

If you're going for a different sound, i think you found it. &mdash 12/09/05 - 04:02:09 PM
Interesting rhythms at the beginning, and, of course, the synth sounds
are so 'not' medieval. I'm kind of a traditionalist, myself, but this was an
interesting new sound for this carol.

Thanks! &mdash 12/09/05 - 05:34:32 PM
Cheers guys - and thank you for listening. I love Christmas carols -
however they are done. If I could sing - then I may have put some vox
on these tunes too - but I can't! There ya go!

I find it very interesting to try to re-work these wonderful melodies and
do try to keep to the spirit of the original tune. Holly and Ivy is a rather
happy, bouncy tune and I have tried hard to stick to this when playing
with the synths.

Apologies to any purists of course! I can quite happily listen to these
songs performed in the "old fashioned" way - as well as in a reworked
fashion. They are just fantastic tunes.

And thank you again for taking the time to listen and comment - I
appreciate that.

DJ
