Tobin Is 50!

Description
A few months ago, while working on Slimmie's birthday surprize, Suzanne asked me to do a 50th birthday collaboration with the Macjammers United. Well, needless to say, the wheels started rolling, and similar to “SlimGirlThat”, the process began, and this is what we came up with.

– Alimar

"Tobin is 50! A timeless 50. An old soul infinitely young at heart. Happy birthday, love! A single-chord birthday groove is the perfect gift for the guy who always uses too many in his songs! (without you, I can only think in one chord, you know). May the next fifty years bring as much music into your life as you can hold. Your music is filled with passion, creativity, melancholy, respect, kindness and above all a special meaningfulness. Thank you for everything you give".

– Suzanne

Originally to be released on his real birthday, December 3rd, it was delayed due to an illness in his family. The final version includes 32 MacJammers and 72 audio tracks!
A collaboration with MacJammersUnited

Happy Birthday Tobin
I first heard this at Version 2 and it was interesting to follow it up to
Version 26. Alimar did a great job of fitting so many people in and not
having total chaos. I think this effort shows how much you are
appreciated here.

perhaps this would be a good time to mention how much I liked
Suzanne's original soundbed with Zetes' tracks on it.

Alimar, you are amazing.

Congrats Tobin, Alimar
Happy Birthday, Tobin. I see there is a forum thread for birthday wishes
so I will add more there, but I want to thank Alimar for his work on this
"epic." I listened as the different contributions came in, and I know how
cluttered the 72 tracks sounded before Alimar began "trimming." This
is a great gift, Al, and I am sure Tobin (and the rest of us who cluttered
this up) really appreciate it.

With that, let me bestow the first, ceremonial 10-10-10-10. Happy
birthday Tobin!

Well, you had to have known
or had an inkling (after being a prominent participant in several of these)
that something might be on it's way. Hope it still surprised you and
brought a smile to your face. It was a lot of fun to contribute to. Happy
Birthday! From a contributor whose next "big" one is a relatively safe 7
years away.

Just in case there's any misapprehension, I like Tobin but I don't like
songs being pushed on sentiment. For it to be sitting now at 9.75,
multiple people must have already voted this as the best thing they ever
heard. You don't do Tobin any favor by doing that and you don't do MJ
any favor either. I'm sure he could handle the former but I doubt he'd be
approving of the latter at all.

Happy Tobin, you're greatly loved here and it's well-deserved.

Double entendre
Just in case there's any further misapprehension, maybe people WEREN'T
pushed by sentiment, and really DID feel it deserved the score they gave, and
it WAS the best thing they ever heard. You have voted the way you feel, very
commendable. But YOU don't do Tobin any favors by stating your feelings
about that HERE, either. Please leave that for a "RANTS" forum post. I'm sure
YOU could handle that?

Sincerely,
Alimar

Don't worry, Alan. There was something really heartwarming about reading your
comments. I have always been an advocate of integrity in ratings. Also I've been
an advocate of community and collaboration, and love these giant collaborative
pieces as a tool for community. Courage and honesty are a big part of a healthy
community, and that is why I felt warmed by what you said. I am beginning to
agree with almost everything you say these days. Must be a sign of my
advanced age and senility?

Hey Tobin!
Happy Birthday!! I wish I could have been able to contribute a verse to
the song...I had trouble with my computer and couldn't download the
file. Alimar kindly helped me by sending a file by email, but it was too
late for me to add anything in time! I'm such a putz! In any case, happy
50th! Here's to another 50!

surprise!
what fun! tobin is in ICU right now with dad, but i will let him know this is
up. there is wi-fi in the waiting room so he will be able to serenade
everyone else with his laptop. thank you for helping with this virtual
surprise. sounds like everyone messing around with a sound check
before the big New Years Macjams Jam that may someday happen at
Alimar Hall in Buffalo, right? thank you, everyone.

Thank you!!
My goodness! Suzanne said to check Macjams and I was afraid
something terrible had happened. I was very surprised to see "Tobin"
on a song in the right column, thinking my name had been hijacked,
but it shook me out of my ICU daze and filled me with genuine surprise
and joy, my own birthday song. I smiled one long 10 minute smile as
the song unfurled. Thank you, MJers. Truly an gracious gesture and
an honor.

What a wonderful cheer up this track is. Thank you, everyone, for your
thoughts and music, fingers and minds. I laughed at the description of
a single chord song for the guy who uses too many, loved all the fun
poked at me and my advancing age, and truly enjoyed the cacophony
of guitars, voices, well-wishes and kazoos.

A special thanks to Al for what must have taken days worth of hours to
piece together. And Suzanne for instigating it all. And to everyone who
contributed. This year I turned 50 and my 4 children turned 25, 21, 18
and 16. All great numbers. Thank you for putting the icing on the cake.

i hope people dont know when my birthday is haha!
that would suck to get this as a birthday present geeez. a random
combobulation of drunk people singing and talking to a noise
backround. gross. i dunno maybe tobin has some sort of fetish for
minless noise and hearing drunk people sing crappy tunes. i dunno
could be. but for the rest of us just dont make a song for us. no really
u dont have to!!

TO: DJ_Veit
Gee, DJ_Veit, you really are a total dick. People put this together for
fun and to be nice to a friend on his birthday, and considering how
many different people (32) were involved in adding to this, all
remotely, it's actually quite amazing that anything cohesive came out
at all. It wasn't about creating a masterpiece.

So, what's the excuse for all of you music sucking so immensely?
Seriously. I'm not just saying your music sucks because I don't like
you. I'm just saying it sucks OUT LOUD to you because you're a total
jackass and I don't like you. Your music is genuinely quite awful and I
find it amazing you'd actually think you were in a position to rudely
criticize ANYONE else's music.

I guess people like you are trolls because they have nothing of value to
offer and feel bitter about it.
