Keywords:
demo (28)draft (4)heavy (138)under water love (1)
Description:
This is a draft of another song that we are working on - the arrangement is mostly done in terms of the guitars and bass, but no vocals have been added yet. The drum section in this version is largely a scratch track. I am about half way done re-doing the drum section via midi to give it a coherent sound throughout, but I wanted to put up this raw version to see if I could get any comments on the arrangement and guitar parts.

The image is a conceptual vision of atomic force microscopy from Stuart Lindsay's research at Arizona State University.

Lyrics:
no vocals yet - song is still in draft phase

Hardware:
Gibson Les Paul, Gibson SG, Digidesign MBox, Dean Bass, G5 Tower (1.8 GHz DP/ 2Gb RAM)

Software:
Pro Tools, Amplitube, Nomad Factory Free Bundle, Waves Trueverb, BetaMonkey Music Drum Loops

Lead is almost lost &mdash 12/13/05 - 03:27:36 PM
in the soundbed. The production on the drums and guitar chords is very
good but it's really tough to make out the lead. Hot moves on guitar and
drums but rating reflects draft status. I'll be interested to hear what you
do this with this. I'll add it to favorites so I can come back and find out.

thanks for listening &mdash 12/13/05 - 03:33:49 PM
well, like I said, this is in draft phase. The leads are intentionally low right now because this version of the mix is currenlty with the vocalist, and he doesn't like the leads to overpower things when he's focusing on writing lyrics and coming up with his delivery.

The drums are also essentially a scratch track at this point. I am reconstructing things with the ReDrum module in Reason so that there is consistency throughout the track. Right now the drum mix is poor at best and you can tell that I used loops from all over the place, because the snare, hihat, and kick sounds change constantly.

thanks for taking the time to listen, I really appreciate it.

lots of energy once more &mdash 12/13/05 - 08:40:39 PM
Once again, theres a whole lot of energy. I can certainly hear where
the vocals could go... and yeah, definately can hear that the drums are
drafted.

Powerful guitar playing all the way through. I like it how you've added
those extra half-a-guitar licks to the end of various 4 bar phrases...
though those type of licks are normally put in the gaps of vocals... so
once the vocalist inserts his words they might need repositioning... but
because of where they are in bars thats probably unlikely unless your
vocalist is experimenting a little.

Loved it how you took out the bass and rhythm guitars in that short
break after the intro. Fantastic for a variation in density, but as with
my comments on the last song, it would still be nice to hear a little
more of that.

Nit picking, can't hear all that much happening on the right side of the
mix... its not really that unbalanced... but the rhythm guitar is really
audible on the left side... but even though it sounds like you might've
doubled the guitars... the one on the right side has no... definition to
it?

Anyway, nice track... waiting to hear whats comming up with this.

This is cool. I agree that the mix sounds skewed to the side. But I like the rocking guitars and the overall feel. I'll be interested to hear how this develops.

Oh Yes &mdash 12/14/05 - 12:30:18 PM
When you get the metioned issues fixed and some vocals on this, it will
be excellent.
I love the arrangement tho, everything moves nicely along.
I've faved this but will look out for the next mix..

gonna check out some more of your songs here as well.

Rips &mdash 12/23/05 - 08:28:10 AM
Great guitars. very cool progression. Drums seem very servicable. Will enjoy listening to this with new drums and vocals. I thougt the small guitar solo (in the middle) seemed too unassuming, although very tastful, compared to the full-bodied sound of the entire piece. Maybe you should really step on it for the solo.
Inspiring track!

Gawd this freakin' RAWKS hard! The drums are a scratch track? Damn! You
can bet I'll be back to see where this ride takes me. Nothing critical to add
that hasn't already been mentioned in the comments below.

Sweet &mdash 03/09/06 - 09:03:03 AM
i really like the sound of it:P i'm pretty sure the final version is going to kick ass:) i can see this being in like a fight scene for a movie (if you've seen Final Fantasy 7: Advent Children, you'll know what i'm talking about lol) you already know what it needs (higher volume for the lead, and vocals) and you're set:P great job

the man inside &mdash 05/01/06 - 01:03:45 PM
Doesn't sound so tiny to me... this is huge... great work... great
drums... great mix.... wall of guitar... if you rework the drums, I'd say
careful not to change the sounds

Personally i think the drumming is great I would just tweak the snare sound! Maybe tighten up the sound! Everything but the lead sounds great! Turn up the lead!

thanks! &mdash 09/27/06 - 03:23:22 PM
This song has been on the back-burner for a bit because we are working on finishing up some new material. We should be adding at least two new songs within the next month or so. This song is next on the list and our vocalist is working on it right now!
