Description:
Ye Olden DucK posted this lovely instrumental song on Mac Jams and I was lucky enough to find it. He was kind enough to let me add untuned vocals and some simple synthesizer noises to mess up a perfectly nice tune.

The original version can be found here: http://www.macjams.com/song/13004

Lyrics:
He
Tried
To
Find
The
Girl
Of
His
Dreams

He was thinking
She was nowhere
He was drinking
Then she was there

Hardware:
Oxygen 8, Shure SM58

Software:
GB2

The synths are sexy, actually. I haven't heard the original instrumental, but I bet it would be not so interesting as this, given there's more to it.

The vocals bother me, though. The chorus effect is nice, but, the "singing" itself is of a poor quality.

Also it's too short. I would like to hear it for longer.

I hope this didn't hurt your ears too badly.

I dig holes for jags.

Thanks for the comments. I too think the synths are quite sexy, thank you. I
just have a tendency to add synthesizers to anything beautiful and organic,
like DucK's sweet instrumental. I don't think I made it more interesting as
much as I think I made it different.

My vocals always bother me, but if I want a song with lyrics, I have to sing.
Sorry it didn't blow you away. I used 3 vocal tracks of my voice (one slightly
panned left, one slightly panned right and one kinda in the middle). I guess
that's the chorus effect you hear. I don't put any effects on my already bad
vocals because I know it doesn't help any.

I also intended the first vocal part to be as mondane and monotone as I could
possibly achieve. The second set of vocals were a little "cheerier" to my ears.

I needed the concept to be expressed as quickly as possible an in as few
words as possible. It was more of a thumbnail of moment that I was
interested in.

Thanks again.

Hey, 5x, don't worry about the "poor quality" remark. Neither ss nor skean
do seem to be singing at all, so don't let their poor judgement bother
you. They have no idea whatsoever what it is all about! And after listening
to some of their stuff, you'll realise they are completely out of their
shallow water in our corner of the musical world...

Thanx for giving some life to my stale song.

There's nothing stale about that song, my fair feathered friend. The people on
this side of the pond think it's wonderful without my poor singing added to it. I
just happened to be inspired by it and couldn't resist the urge to get my extra
arms around it and mess it up with my "horrendous singing". I think you know
what I'm saying.

Thanks for permission to mess it up.

Hope to hear something from you soon!

I have to agree with the comments-- its actually more enticing simply as an instrumental.

It could work with vocals if it weren't so experimental with the slow lyrics.

Hey DJ Squirrel,

try DucK's original version of this song without my horrid vocals:
http://www.macjams.com/song/13004

If you're not excited by experimental treatments then I suggest you avoid my
songs at all costs. Typical vocal treatments are of little interest to me. That's
why I'm such a humongus fan of artists like DucK and cjdaley. Originality.

I'm not saying my vocals are good, but I'm pretty happy with the approach I
decided on. It's not something I'd expect to hear on the radio, but hey, I don't
expect to listen to the radio either...

I am thouroughly satisfied by the fresh talent I have discovered on
MacJams.com - It's my one stop shop for original songs! I almost exclusively
listen to the artists that I have downloaded from here. It's a brilliant
alternative the radio. I hope you find it as thrilling as I do, and I hope to hear
what you have to offer us in the way of music, especially vocals.

Thanks DJ for your thoughts!

It's like Duck is living inside your mind!

Short and to the point. Who says songs have to be 3 minutes long?!

Ducks in my head &mdash 01/18/07 - 02:29:29 PM
You hear that folks? Lined Up Dead Pixies says I have Ducks in my head!

Thanks for noticing, Line. I think DucK and I are usually on the same page. We both have really strange ideas about songwriting, only DucK has a nice voice.

I can't hold a feather to him.

You, on the other hand, probably like feathers.

Nice guitar work, by the way. Want to collaborate some day, since I don't know how to play the guitar very well and you fly an Airline?

Levels? EQ? &mdash 03/28/07 - 07:54:55 AM
Thanks for listening itswot...

I haven't listened to this song in a long time. It is rather muddy (like most of my songs). I just found out about the Master Tack that was secretly buried in GB3 and someone told me about EQ?? Ever heard of that? I hadn't! Hope my newer songs are an improvement from this stage of my recording.

I do like the song though. DucK is a sport to let me use his music. Thanks again for taking the time
