Keywords:
alien (8)gleetch (2)gig of the galaxy (1)lost planet (3)electron-positron annihilation (13)spluttering (4)twittery (3)moonlet (1)
Description:
Dreamy, woven voices calling me
Surely I’m asleep…?

The dream occurs to me all at once, in a second
Planted by the web of voices
The illusion of time passing is in the retelling, the unravelling

I remember it, the alien
Appearing before me in my dining room
Three of it’s mouths explaining in perfectly clear gibberish
It needed me for a gig

"Hey man,
I just play the drums!"

My cat Chuck was nearby
Making the alien nervous

"wE nEED A dRUMMER"
"I’m an earthling with but two arms and two legs
How will I play your alien beats?"

There was no spaceship
A vortex appeared, and KA-fa-*BOOM*!
We were gone

Somewhere on Earth
a dog barked

I went deaf during the rehearsals
Figuratively
"This isn’t music! It’s some kind of awful/beautiful noise
Hey! How come I can’t just say ‘awful/beautiful’?"
"yOU aRE aTTEMPTING tO mAKE tOO sUBTLE a dISTINCTION
bE aSSURED tHIS iS pRECISE, hARMONIOUS oRCHESTRATION"

I was not assured

"I’m just good at earth music!" I protested
"a gROOVE iS a gROOVE nO mATTER wHAT gALAXY yOU aRE fROM"

A spheroid moonlet was hollowed
And the stage floated in the center
A hundred million ghastly creatures watched and listened
And danced and shouted
Hooted, warbled and shrieked
As I drummed on an outrageous kit
With a band of outrageous monsters

It was the gig of the galaxy, only not the Milky Way
Some other galaxy
The teeming millions loved it

But the alien recruiter wasn’t dancing
"tHE sEATTLE gRUNGE iNFLUENCE iS tOO eXTREME," it gibberished
"nEXT tIME I’M sCOUTING iN iCELAND iNSTEAD"

Was it all just a dream?
Yes
Yes, it was all just a dream

…or… was it…??!?

.,,Have I... Okay, no more flashbacks, flashpresents or flashfutures for
you. It's possible that you may have used up you lifes alottment here...
And a mighty fine job of doin it. I just happen to be in just the right
'space' for this - Man-O-Man, that was quite the rush and one helleva
trip...

I don't know why and or how this tune could have jumped out from
wherever... And show up here to be just what I needed... I mean, I'm
trying to make some kind of appearance here away from a life's design
that has temporarly shorted me on available time to play at MS's and
this tune, it might have given me a weeks worth of FIX...

That was otta this world... Another ticket please...

Thanks David

Here's another ticket for you Dion. Hey excellent! I'm glad the aliens and I could give you just the number that you needed. I've used up several life's allotments of many things, including flashfutures, and yet I keep on taking more and more, greedy me. I'd hoped that this could make the connection, even as weird as it is. Thanks Dion!

David you have to be one of the most talented people I know. You can
get down with the best of them and turn around and push the edge.
Nice piece well put together but I expect nothing less from you. Your
stuff is not only good it is interesting.

Wow. So very FAB!!
Excellent! :)

That's all. I'm speechless in alien gibberish this time around ;)

Heheh, thank you Mysti! I know, I really turned it around from your episode, which was aesthetically pleasing and featuring your unbeatable vocals (some of my vocals are in here, but they aren't as classy as yours were). Thanks again for selecting me for this li'l project, which I greatly enjoyed. It helped me get some of the weird out of my system. :)

Space rock'n'roll &mdash 12/15/05 - 05:19:14 AM
David,
Your dog barked.
The space alien entered your house.
Your music is felt by me as if the space alien had made it.

Your eyes shine.
It is not possible to think this music to be the earth product at all.
Wonderful space product music.

David,
Were you invaded?
You are David Space Thomas.

The space aliens and I thank you for your comments, Tadashi. You might
like to know that, during the course of making this song, the aliens and my
cats learned to get along. I have been in a very space frame of mind for
the last few months. Well, few decades really.

Thank you for starting this whole thing Tadashi. Your music is always an
inspiration.

I think that quote should be at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in
Cleveland, or maybe on the side of the U.N. in 10 foot letters etched in
granite.
I really had fun at your song Mr. PV Great track, great story line, great
picture. Great show! Great multimedia event...a 'happening' as it were.
Thanks Mr.

Creme de Cacaophony &mdash 12/15/05 - 07:03:57 AM
What an unusual journey... this was interestingly blended, loved the little
snippoids of detritus floating by. I admit I wished there to be a bit more
of a thread through this, but it was a good dream-mosaic instead. Many
different scenes were evoked in a passive way. No danger was felt.

I always appreciate your comments and suggestions, Eduard, thank you! I'm glad you didn't feel danger; I didn't either, throughout the whole episode... though I have to admit being a little nervous playing for a crowd of so many monsters. More stage fright than danger probably. Hey, I'm glad those snippoids worked for you!

Cobain Went to Space &mdash 12/15/05 - 09:52:25 AM
Or else how would the aliens know about grunge? I KNEW IT!

This was of course, highly imaginative, groovy and toe-tapping (okay
bum-wiggling). If you re-do it, I think it would be cool to have a
melody running through it, even something as simple as the one that
comes in during the last third of the song. I'm also wondering if going
more electronic with the beats might smooth the organic/electronic
battle I'm sensing right now.

Although, that's what the song is about, the almighty Vortex bringing
earth music to the teeming alien masses, so my suggestion may be
completely inapproprite. In fact, now that I consider it, I think I'm
wrong. But, I still think adding a little theme/melody going through the
song might fancy it up a bit. :-)

Cobain Went to Space &mdash 12/23/05 - 11:06:10 AM
Right on, if I got your bum wiggling then I consider this a success. Dubbly so if you found this highly imaginative--that's about the best compliment I could ask for right there. Honestly, I did try to electronify the beats somewhat, but I think you're right, something more obviously synthetic would perhaps make more appropriate drums. The drums are loops (of course--and only a few are from Drums on Demand this time even!), and I tried some of the more electronic beats that I could find, but they usually tended to get in the way of the lovely alien noises... I didn't think it was right to bring in beats that might obscure the lovely melodies made by my alien hosts. And, are you telling me that you can't pick out the catchy melodic hooks in the tune? What planet are you from, Earth or something? Ok, I admit it, you're probably right that this needs something to better hook human listeners... perhaps some kind of lovely female vocals?

The mix is just so full of subtle things that still scream at you without
becoming just noise... if you know what I mean...
Great work - A fav and a download (-two bits).

others stuff! Really seems like your telling a story. You really made me
smile when I heard the dog bark. I don't know hwo you did it but that
really fit in quite nicely. Lot of out of space treats like the swishing and a
ton of others.

Good going, well done. Like how you fit in the talking to, seems like you
really put a lot of work into this!

Hey thank you Bill! You know, I was laughing my butt off when I added that dog barking. Actually, there's a lot of laughter that went into this tune. Maybe cracking myself up is one of my motivations. I did put a lot of work into this, but it was entirely a labor of love. And it sure beats watching tv. Thanks for listening, it's always nice to hear your thoughts on my tunes!

Woww...stricken! &mdash 12/18/05 - 06:25:09 PM
Just posted a new song...and then I saw there was a new Galaxy Band
episode...warped here, and I really enjoyed it...so many layers, and
stunning rythms.
But then...I was hit by the last words of the alien recruiter "tHE sEATTLE
gRUNGE iNFLUENCE iS tOO eXTREME, nEXT tIME I%u2019M sCOUTING iN
iCELAND iNSTEAD"

Ahem... "Little Iceland in the Refrigerator" my last song...posted ten
minutes ago, at present not yet linkable! Song description contains
following words: "It's that they're icelanders, or it's that we're
earthlings?"
Was I abducted, or better, was I induced to produce this song as a new
form of alien experiment? Is our artistic freedom always an illusion?
I want a doctor.
If that's not possible...at least a bus ticket for Andromeda.

Woww...stricken! &mdash 12/18/05 - 06:54:39 PM
Yes, I do believe the aliens are making music through us, and that would
certainly explain what might otherwise look like a spooky coincedence. I
know the aliens are interested in Einarus as well, and he's from Iceland. As
for artistic freedom being an illusion, well duh, all free will is an illusion.
We're just a bunch of totally deterministic, if complex, interactions of cosmic
forces. God doesn't play dice with the universe. Nosirree, not listening, la
la la. Thanks for stopping by rik, I'm glad you enjoyed this! Crap, I almost
forgot, here's your bus ticket!

I did not sleep well last night, but now I see...no abduction, no conditioning...
I Want To Believe it was only a coincidence...my Clear Thought System did
rebooted this morning...if not the Free Will one...
Einarus, 'tis he who can tell out the true story...
But what the heck...a coach in wait is down the road for Andromeda...see you
soon comrades...perceptualvortex, I owe you one...!

Catastrophic failure is a sudden and total failure which not only cannot be recovered from (the system which experiences is destroyed beyond any reasonable possibility of repair), but also frequently causes injury, death, or significant damage to other, often unrelated systems.
