Description:
Strangely enough this military march has a jolly character to me. That is because Walt Disney used it in his movie “Santa's Workshop” which was released 1932. In the end of the movie all the toys made in the workshop are marching in to Santa’s big sack, before he is leaving on his slade to distribute the toys to all children over the world.
And, of course, as the toys are marching this theme is playing in the background. It all looks very funny, and after seeing it a couple of times I have come to develope a joyfull attitude to it. It was not untill a few weeks ago I got to know that the tune was a military march and that it was composed by Franz Schubert (who lived between 1797 and 1828).

You can play just about anything, Curry!
(Do you take requests?)
And...the REAL question:
Can you make the guitar sound like a chicken!? ;)
I'm so glad you found out the composer of this--Shubert! Very cool.
And thank you for posting this!
The way you interpret this piece is joy and wonder all wrapped up in
colorful paper with a bright, shiny ribbon!
A true gift. Thank you so much for sharing it! :)

Glad you're back with this one! Absolutely wonderful playing, and such
beautiful mic work and production. How much time a day do you
practice to get this good?????
This goes on my Christmas album! (yes I know its not a Christmas
song, but its going on anyway!).
Thanks, Neil

...yesterday...where'd it go?
Weird.
Curry, you've managed to play a march that isn't stiff and actually
moves along with a lovely and lively pace...very melodic, spritely and
mood-brightening...
It sounds great... in my little office, very present and life-like...
And once again it can go instantly into my 'MacJams Christmas' Playlist
and then into a bunch of 'year-round' playlists as well...
Another great gift, my friend...

You never cease to amaze me. That is some incredible playing. A one-man chamber ensemble you are.
You are one mean, clean picking machine!
Bravo!

And I show it to my Kindergarten students every year. This is really in the
mood of that movie.
Actually, Schubert wasn't a particularly 'military' type person, from what I
know about him. He was somewhat of an amateur guitarist, even writing
some chamber music that included the guitar, so I think he would be as
delighted with this arrangement as I am.

nice ragtime feel.
Nice quality to the guitar as well. Like the triplet feel as well. Nice going.

Curry thanks for sharing this tune. So well executed. Sounds so clean,
festive and happy go lucky. Now I'm going to have to locate this
Disney movie. Definite download. Such a master at your craft.
Sincerely,

....I really need to be in a xmas sort of mood for this... Although I sit
here in ready position and with my stupid xmas hat on, I realize that
my preconceived notions about the level of readiness required to check
this tune out, and possibly other carols being presented here at MJs,
that those notions that I wrapped myself around were unnecessary and
they were certainly, not true.
First of all, I didn't know that you were this skilled, Cori - Don't know
where I've been...This is a really nice arrangement and with only one
instrument, the acoustic guitar. You have masterfully expressed each
note and accompanied them by an array of dynamics, color and texture
of which, this task is typically left for full orchestra to pull off.
The other thing is, for me, it ended up that listening to this and being
in the right mood; being in a mood that is more resonant with the
season and more appreciative of a xmas carol is not required. That
which is exceptional is exceptional, regardless of the season that it's
being presented in.
Thank you Cori, for allowing me this opportunity to be able to enjoy a
xmas carol without having the need to like xmas carols. That was big
for me.
Truly,
Dion/Cyd
I remeber first hearing this tune during WW2 when still a lad. We used to get the BBC on the short-wave radio, and also Hitler's english language short wave station. We lived in South Africa.
I remember the tune because it was the Signature Tune for the German station.
The announcer said "Germany Calling ..... Germany Calling ....." and then the signature tune was played by a military band. We youngsters used to call it "The German Song"!
Luckily your rendition does not bring back the flavour of that time at all........... It is really very cheerful... no doubt Schubert would have approved.

I love anything with guitar in it if it is in tune and what a lovely
beginning to Christmas this is. I immediately thought of Steve Howe
from YES, any way thank you for this.
