Description
Loungey and dubby, hence "plywood". A David Lynch-esque version of "last night". Big thanks to my friend with her most beautiful voice... an inspiration. This is the "last drinks" chill version... Dubby, Spacious, and Cerebral. "last night" (NuFunk mix) is in NuJazz...

enchanting
the drum beat reminds me of a a vnv nation song. its a nice peaceful song, the vocals are a little hard to hear but i think maybe it adds something with them quiet. it makes it sort of enchanting.

Fire, walk with me..
I could definitely see this in the next "Twin Peaks" movie - ha-hah. I'd like to hear the vocals up more - I think they'd still be just as dreamy - but I have to strain to make out the lyrics, and there's some great stuff going on there. Great work!

I've always loved dub. The way you can play with it and the way it plays with
you.... !

Dubby
Let's see some lyrics or perhaps, as Dreadmon suggests, put the
vocals up in the mix a bit. Your friend has a great voice so don't
be afraid of giving it more exposure. Plus this might be better off
in the Dub genre than the downtempo. But despite those caveats,
this is a nice piece of work. Nice one!

Dubby vs Downtempo
Thanks for the feedback. Definitely will mix the vocals more. I too am
straining at them slightly even though I have heard them many times! In so
far as genre, it is more Trip Hop.... which is "dubby" but not dub. Downtempo
for me is laid back blunted beats, chilled and a bit trippy.... but I may be
wrong! any other comments relating to this would be welcome! Maybe I
should start a forum regarding how does one slot in a jazz rock fusion funk
track with a latin house beat and experimental dubby overtones....!

Dubby vs Downtempo
I'd say this was more trip hop or dub than downtempo, personally. Sure
it has elements of all three but I'd say more the first two than the latter.
But I know it's all just labels and semantics anyway and of course you're
welcome to put your own stuff wherever you think it fits best.

Cool
Reminds me of some of the remixes of Golden Palomino's Pure. No need
to mix up the vocals in this mix as long as there is another mix featuring
her lovely voice.

Nice!
As others have stated, itd like to hear your vocals a bit more upfront. They sound very nice! I also like the drumbeats a lot, a bit different from a lot of beats that i hear on this site! Let us hear some more of your oice!

Her voice sounds like Beth Orton.
You need to have her sing on one of my songs!
Fantastic song. I need to dig in and listen to all of your songs.

Sweet diddles!
Nice track and sweet voice like a candy mint after dinner on a rainy night in the desert!

Emphasis on the woman within
This was a great idea, with the concept of having the vocals buried like
she must feel she is herself, but I think the almost hallucinating quality of
the accompaniment is enough and the vocals should have been more
forward (they are done so well) to give them more presence (and
meaningfulness) and to make the effects you use stand out more; or
perhaps more variation to the layers of vocals, to highlight certain lyrics,
etc. There is an element of caught in the loops that takes away from the
potential poetry of the piece in my ears, and if it sounded more like it was
played by real players with emphasis on the lyrics (at least in places), it
would be stupendous.

great song
nice production... love the dub sound and sense of space that is
created... when heavy beats and effects are paired with jazz
elements and delicate singing, it makes for an intruiging mix.

To think, I almost missed this tune! Your friend has a georgous voice, very much like Zoe Johnston from Faithless. YUMMY! Yes, were is the trip hop genre here?

Portishead eat your heart out
I try to avoid saying that MJ songs remind me of other artists because it
can seem a bit like saying it doesn't sound original. But to hell with it - to
me this has the best elements of Portishead and Thievery Corporation -
but more like something they wish they had done. Love it.
