Description:
This was recorded as part of the Cheltenham UK MacJams convention. I wanted to do something specially for the occasion and worked on fiddling with the 12 Days of Christmas so as to give it a MacJams theme. The lyrics presented here are the result.

This was recorded live, with no overdubs.

The opening verse is me singing alone.
On the second verse I'm joined by Sarah, wife of MacJammer comdotdom. Stevel joins us for the third verse, my good friend Peter for the fourth, Slimgirlfat for the fifth, Rebsie for the sixth, another Peter for the seventh, and Caroline for the eighth. From then on in everybody sang everything, plus Rebsie and Sarah added improvised harmonies.

Lyrics:

ROFL! &mdash 12/21/05 - 02:20:46 PM
Speechless... almost impossible to do to a dragon... (wipes tears from
his eyes)... this is very very funny and enjoyable. By the end of the end
of the song, I no longer have any idea what a RonnieLong is, or if it
would be safe to get 5 of them.
day-long-smirk, ah....

Drak, thanks so much for listening! I've seen an elephant fly but I've
never seen a dragon cry! Don't forget that if you've been good you can
ask Santa for five Ronnielongs this Christmas… but you have to have
been REALLY good… plus you'll need to stock up on Guinness!

Thanks for listening, Mando. And of course I didn't do this just to get the
people mentioned in the song as fans… I'm not that shallow and neither
are they… ;-)

Imperfect, but spelled the name right &mdash 12/21/05 - 02:29:31 PM
I felt there were some timing issues in this piece, and some pitch
problems. Considerable room noise. A little essiness. EQ problems.
Some noticeable clipping on the "Ronnie Longs." Also detected a faint
odor of alcohol throughout. All in all, needs some work, but...

10-10-10-10! Merry Christmas!

(p.s. don't tell Alan Fraser!)

Rats, you spotted some of our technical imperfections… but what's
Christmas without a few technical imperfections… Technical
imperfections roasting on an open fire, Jack Frost nipping at your
clothes, tiny tots, etc.

Merry Christmas to you, Tom; you were a very early inspiration for this
song and thanks for being a good sport about it.

P. S. Alan Fraser need never know

I think you need to create the Macjammer UK band.
Y'all sound great! :)

(Ok, Tom...where are those 10's!?)

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year :)

Glad you liked, Mysti. We were so impressed with how good all our
voices sounded together after only the first run-through. Believe it or
not, this version was only our second attempt. It's like we'd been carol
singing together for years!
A Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you, Mysti, and congrats on
your Christmas album with Tom.

Well if we've inspired you to do a Christmas song then I think that's a
pretty good thing that can be said about this track. Good luck with it.
And as for Caroline swearing, I couldn't possibly comment… but it has
been known… did I say that?! Merry Christmas!

Yeah, this brings back a lot of happy memories. It's amazing how festive
we all looked on Bonfire night! I'm glad you enjoyed singing it then and
listening to it now. Thanks so much for your contribution. And yes, we
must have another convention in 2006.

You nuts! &mdash 12/21/05 - 11:51:32 PM
I'll never hear "five golden rings again." It'll always be "five Ronnie
Longs," from now on. What a laugh!

(I'm very interested in having any of the nine Alimars you might not be
using after the holidays).

Happy Christmas, Bawdies.

Thanks, Ledeb. "Five Ronnielongs" was a gift & I'm just glad that I
thought of it before anyone else did!

I'm sure you can borrow one of the Alimars, but can I ask what you're
going to do with him?

Merry Christmas to you on behalf of the Bawdies.

Cori, thanks so much for listening to our little effort. When such a
talented musician as yourself says something is well performed, well it's
a real treat to read. We're really glad you stopped by and we're
particularly glad you found it so charming. Merry Christmas from the
Bawdies!

Ah now that's &mdash 12/22/05 - 12:02:45 PM
what Christmas music is all about. Did I hear a bit of trying not to laugh? This is great! Ha, awesome!

[ Reply to This ]
Ah now that's &mdash 12/28/05 - 04:25:27 PM
No laughter can be heard on this track. No stifling of laughter can be
heard on this track. We are all professionals, gosh darn it (or rather
amateurs with a professional attitude, which is pretty much the same
thing) and therefore you won't have heard anyone having any fun on this
track whatsoever. Fun is for wimps!

But thanks for listening, PV. If you'd like to pretend that you can hear
someone stifling their laughter then go ahead but I can assure you that
we were all 100% stone-faced throughout (though some were stoned out
of their faces throughout, which is definitely not the same thing).

So Very Happy! &mdash 12/22/05 - 03:34:39 PM
Ist Fo a live take A , What I take away from the song is a sense of happiness
and friends. That is so important in our World where each day could be your
last wether in the Subway in the U.K. or on a Jet Plane in America.
Not sure of you all knew each other proir to Macjams or not
If Macjams brought you together a very interesting tale.

I thouraghly enjoyed the piece but of course have my usual Yank

baffleness at "who is Ronnie Long and what do you do with a rsclettys
(forgive if these are real live people, Macjammers or not!)

TRYING TO REMEMBER &mdash 08/27/06 - 08:50:19 PM
When we were kids, and later had kids,we never could remember all the thingsmentioned in this song.We all made up our own, and it became a game, and hodge podge. Now at least I have somethings to use, even if they are different.I remember some people tried to put a value on each item, and add them up,still hodge podge.I worked with a man that sang this song, quiestly all year, he almost drove me nuts.He knew other songs, butthought it was funny to sing only this. When he retired,we had a lunch for him, I drew a pear tree, with birds in it, framed it, he thought it was the best of the gifts he got that day.
I love your version.Excellent.
thanx,
Seamus
