Description:
This is a song I wrote several years ago with my friend and colleague Maarten Speekenbrink. I started working on it again because I wanted to see how GB would work with alternative rhythmic structures - the song has alternating 5/4 and 6/4 beats. I did the vocal recordings using the built-in mic on my powerbook, to get a rough and unpolished vocal. I can't really decide what this song is about, because I only wrote half of the lyrics. However, on my end of the songwriting line the tune was inspired by the movie Memento, which I had seen the day before - a brilliant film about the stunning psychological phenomenon known as memory.

Lyrics:
I've had some thoughts lately
running around maybe
feels like I've been here before

Shouldn't I remember
maybe I remember
feels like I've been going round

Don't you see now I have to decide
I don't have a choice
Watch it now baby
we almost collide
can't you tell from the noise?

Barefoot/dumb/crazy
I tramp on the daisies
grass is green - maybe

To beg your pardon
mostly out of boredom
I'm not polite baby

Don't you see now I have to decide
I don't have a choice
Watch it now baby
we almost collide
can't you tell from the noise?

This is really Cool &mdash 12/21/05 - 09:13:49 PM
I like that. The alternating time signatures. Thats almost Zappa-esque. I
have also tried some of those different time signatures but garage band
didn't really come with a whole lot of loops for anything other than 4/4.
So I had to make my own. Is that what you did or did you find them
somewhere?

Very good though. I really like the sound you get from your Strat man.
Sweet lead.

Thanks. There's no loops in the song, it's all recorded. The strat sound is due
to the leslie in vst effects, which is really good.

i kinda like the weird sound of the vocals, i love the guitar in the beggining. perhaps turn the vocals up just a little in the mix, they kinda sound cool behind the rest of the music but some more volume may help. it has a bit of a jazzy feel to me.

Signatures, jazzy rocky thing.

Nice vocals and instrumentation.

Great!!! &mdash 12/22/05 - 02:31:34 PM
I love the introduction to your song. It really allows the listener to be
curious about what will come next. This is the best song i've heard on this
website so far, by far. The vocals need a little work. But, great lyrics. Work
on the singning. I love the sound you get from your strat. It really is
pronounced fully in this song. Once again, nice job. Congratulations.

Great guitar playing... &mdash 12/23/05 - 09:09:37 PM
...fun with the varying time signature...

My ears kept perking up at the lead, though.

Vocals are good. I'm listening over headphones tonight... I wonder if I'd
want to tweak the mix a little for clarity if I was listening over speakers...

Neat tune.

Take 5. Or 6. &mdash 10/12/06 - 08:03:55 PM
This is a cool song. Maybe the 5 part should have sounded a bit less like
Brubeck, but the occasional 6 at the end of a 5 phrase keeps the listener
nicely on edge. Nice guitar solo at the end. -- Victor.
