Short on time... &mdash 12/22/05 - 03:44:30 PM
...so I had to do this in one take. (With a small edit on the 2nd verse
because I screwed up the words!) McBoy sent me the instrumental track
and I couldn't pass it up. I sang the vocals with simplicity so I wouldn't
distract too much from his playing. And I love his instumental section
on the 3rd verse. Happy jazzy holidays everyone!! [ Reply to This ]

One take?? One take?!!! ARGH! I have so much respect for that it borders on hatred! What an amazing performance by you both. Clearly some next level musicianship at work here. Beautiful, stunning, and dare I say inspirational...

Beautiful! And, simply so... Soulful and heartfelt... Incredibly warm and
textural...
The vocals are so extremely intimate
And Mcboy... Mcboy, Mcboy...
I bow to the both of you.
Thanks! Emily and Mcboy - A fine rendition of a tune that usually
makes me cringe - Thanks for fix'n that... [ Reply to This ]

Ah.... &mdash 12/22/05 - 07:51:20 PM
It's like wrapping yourself in a warm blanket of McBoy/Emily holiday
goodness! Okay, I stole that from a Celestial Seasonings Tea box :P
Seriously, this sounds great! The perfect balance of instrumental and
voice, both lush with that romantic holiday spirit. I have visions of the late
20's in a nite club, watching you both perform... in black and white
celluloid, heheh!
Great holiday track from you both! [ Reply to This ]

Is there a finer jazz guitarist on this site? The ease of playing is astounding.
So relaxed and sure. Excellent vocal, Emily. Lush. Lovely.

Beautiful Interpretation &mdash 12/22/05 - 10:59:38 PM
Wow. What an arrangement. What a voice.
Gorgeous playing meets gorgeous singing.
Shades of Lennie Breau with those killer harmonics, McB. Real nice touch.
Nicely done, you two.
Merry Christmas to you both.

Just what it is. I feel the mood of Christmas in this one. Very nice jazzy touch. You have that George Benson way of moving your fingers across them strings. Nice:)
Wonderful singing Emily. What great talent you both have. [ Reply to This ]

And a delightful, creative musical interpretation by you McBoy.

Beautiful Work &mdash 12/23/05 - 08:00:59 AM
From both of you, nice way to end the year. You always raise the bar in every genre you work in. What amazing pieces can we expect next year? [ Reply to This ]

How many times, O Lord... &mdash 12/23/05 - 09:14:17 PM
...can I listen to someone play or sing and resolve to hang it up
thereafter...
Lovely, lilting guitar solo, really settles the tune right into place...
Emily's decision to sing it without a lot of ornamentation strikes me as the
heart-ful one... This really delivers...

What a nice treat on a Christmas Eve! I'll echo the George Benson reference - that's some smooth fretting, man. And Emily, a gloriously pure performance. Thank you both for this wonderful early gift! [ Reply to This ]

Better Stuff &mdash 12/27/05 - 02:50:05 PM
I was all caught up in the holidays and today I came back here to
majams to do some catching up and to my right I see this song at the
top of the ratings. Wow! I wish I had downloaded this and added it to
the CD we played as we drove around looking at Christmas lights
Christmas Eve. I do believe that this performance sets a standard that
most musicians strive to achieve. Not only is it the good stuff but it's
Better.

Let me be honest... &mdash 12/28/05 - 05:41:33 AM
I've never reached the end of this song when listening to it. I hate it. It
is predictable, melodramatic, and cheesy. In general, I do not like
christmas songs, to say the least. The only reason that I started
listening to this is that I didn't figure out in time what S.N. stood for.
But as the first notes unfolded... for the first time in my life have I
listened to a christmas song without that terrible itch that I always get
from it. McBoy, this is definitely the best guitar playing I've heard on
MJs so far; very nice arrangements too. Emily, your vocals are flawless
and honest. You've both done a remarkable job on transforming this
song into something really beautiful. [ Reply to This ]
Oh yeah &mdash 12/28/05 - 07:01:02 PM
I'm home from my holiday trip and signed onto Macjams to see what
I've missed. I'm glad this is still holding its own on the charts so that I
didn't miss it. Beautiful music from both of you. I'm always a fan of
Emily's vocals, and there's no one who plays jazz guitar like McBoy.
Gorgeous. [ Reply to This ]
Magnificent &mdash 12/28/05 - 08:46:05 PM
Beautiful, gorgeous. Very nice substitutions by Mcboy, tastefully played
with stunning ease and facility, and not overly clever. The arrangement
works perfectly.
Emily's vocals are breathtakingly lovely. She met the heart of the song as
it had been given to her, making the pairing of the instruments and vocals
seamless.
This is a work of art which we are lucky to be given. [ Reply to This ]
I can't stand Christmas songs &mdash 12/29/05 - 03:09:20 PM
and I ordinarily especially loathe jazz Christmas songs but this one is an
exception. Beautifully and tastefully done. [ Reply to This ]
