come over here for a listen, and much to my surprise, I hear this
pleasant & optimistic synth-pop tune by underdog. Your stuff always
puts me in a happy place. So I hope you don't mind if I critique a bit. I
think the percussion track is too simple. Here's the thing: the song
starts off with these really cool analog synth sounds... and then enter
in those 16th note hits, which to me acts like a build to something
explosive. But the simple "live drum set" perc tracks keeps going
throughout the whole song. Now, keep in mind this could just be my
humble opinion, but I'd love to hear this thing get all aphex twin...
change up that perc track into a really compelling, complex texture
and you've got a poptastic hit! The dynamic of this song is pretty
constant and consistent throughout, and I'm a sucker for dynamic
builds, crescendos, percussion builds, etc. The flip side of my whole
critique is that if you were to add vocals, you've probably got the
perfect sound bed, a la Postal Service. Either way, I dig this --
especially your bass track. You got me off my absent butt and away
from the holiday chores to come listen and comment, Peter. Thanks for
sharing this. Look forward to more!
