No arguably &mdash 01/03/06 - 11:26:02 AM
...it's definitely sad and amazingly restrained. You really managed
something very difficult here, giving just enough, but not too little.

Interesting title...makes me wonder what's going on in that former
newsman's head.

short and sweet &mdash 01/03/06 - 02:31:52 PM
Tom, this is a beautiful peice. It's like a transitional in it's shortness, and I
like that about it. Nothing critical I can think of to add. It's wonderful.

Lovely &mdash 01/03/06 - 03:48:42 PM
I hear a new tone from you. It probably was there all the time ... now I can
hear it.

Very nice! Surely interesting, as Ledebutant points out. Lovely!

I liked the contemplative nature of this.

Touching &mdash 01/03/06 - 05:09:53 PM
This song really hit home for me because my aunt just recently passed
away and it made me reflect life. Thanks for sharing. I enjoyed it.

minimalist musing... &mdash 01/03/06 - 06:59:46 PM
As if you gently pulled a string connected to the grey, overcast
heavens...and managed to open up a small window of golden light.

Just beautiful.

Perfect as soundtrack &mdash 01/04/06 - 06:18:05 AM
in some tender and yet suspended dialogue scene, makes me think to the
great animation movie "Spirited Away" by Miyazaki. Great choice of
instruments and soundstage placement as well.
I love sad songs too, I feel their sadness as the truest face of any joy.

Perfect as soundtrack &mdash 01/04/06 - 07:44:09 AM
Thanks for the comments, rik. It is interesting that you mention "Spirited
Away," because the film is one of my favorites, especially the soundtrack by
Joe Hisaishi. In fact, on this piece, I was trying to get the piano sound that he
achieves in "The Sixth Station," the long, lovely train sequence near the end of
the film. So, I am glad you were reminded of that movie listening to this.

I also agree with you about sad music revealing joy. Thanks again!

Flow when it is quiet &mdash 01/05/06 - 04:42:29 AM
Did the river flow?
Did sadness flow?
Beautiful time remains in the mind.

Sad? &mdash 01/05/06 - 08:27:49 AM
Pensive, for sure. Sad? Not necessarily. The title sure indicates otherwise. I
suppose it depends on what's lurking behind your personal emotional
fabric at the time.

At any rate, a delicate and lovely little movement that would fit beautifully
into a number of poignant cinematic moments that I can think of.

Well done.

Very poignant. &mdash 01/06/06 - 07:45:23 AM
But the piano towards the end offers a glimmer of hope. I loved it Tom. A
beautiful piece. I look forward to parts 2 & 3.

God bless,

Rick

Another simple praise: &mdash 01/06/06 - 09:04:35 AM
I've really got nothing to suggest.

I loved the restraint of it - so beautiful.

A fav & a DL.

These pieces of yours, Tom... &mdash 01/07/06 - 01:58:23 PM
...get me thinking that you are a very American composer. I don't respond
to your pieces as 'New Age'. I respond to them as American classical.
Copeland sorts of simplicity, but well developed from melody, and with
plenty of restrained, not-over-glorpy heart.

I get this love of land and love of people and tradition in your music.

Ed
