Keywords:
Sex (64)dive (2)going down (1)
Description:
3 minutes of rock!
The song came about from writing the bridge of another song, and I liked the stabbing of the E A chords - also, it was easy to play. From the initial idea to this version took exactly one week (to the hour).

From the never to be released album 'More songs about sex, tension and frustration'.

A song inspired by dodgy french internet sites.

Lyrics:
The Devil's on my porch
I keep my curtains closed.
Made me take Paris by force
Completely unopposed
(and the french girls sing ...)

I've got permission to dive
(makes you feel wide on the inside)

And God lives three doors down
He keeps the place real neat.
I try to be a little sunbeam;
It won't last the week.
When you're feeling elevated
Twenty seconds of elation,
The greatest gift that you've been given
But will it be reciprocated?

I've got permission to dive
(makes you feel wide on the inside)

And my heart just
Beats
remembering ...

Great song ... &mdash 01/07/06 - 04:32:35 AM
Hey, you sound like Will Young!

Only kidding.

Another excellent song with a lovely combination of melody and
rockiness. Once again your main strengths are in the energy you get
into your music and the confidence you put into the vocals. You sing
with great panache. I love the contrast between your high and low
voices ... they sound so different but are perfectly integrated. It's not
easy to get harmonies sounding that good.

It's one of those songs that's relatively straightforward in structure but
manages to sound rich and complex because it's so skilfully put
together. Excellent work.

Great song ... &mdash 01/07/06 - 09:15:05 AM
If only I could sound more like Willie boy .....

Appreciate the feedback Rebsie .... spot on , this is a very simple song (basically 2 chords), which suits my playing ability. My impatience to get it finished probably added to the simplicity.

Cool track &mdash 01/07/06 - 08:48:10 AM
Good track all in all...love the vocals, although in places they sound a little
muddy in the mix. This is a very assured performance...quality!

Cool track &mdash 01/07/06 - 09:18:34 AM
This actuallysounds like the sort of thing I used to dance badly to when I was student in Manchester in the 80's - retro goth?

You're dead right about the vocals steve - they cut through in some parts and mush up in others. I think I need to spend a bit more time on the mix (am currently reading 'Home p.c. recording for dummies' to try and get some pointers).

Permission to rave about your music... &mdash 01/07/06 - 10:40:33 PM
Yet again another strong musical creation! You've got that 80's groove
going. You must be the lovechild of Simon Lebon and Rick Ocasek,
and sound better (and look prettier, maybe) than either of them :-)

Your music flows to quench the thirst to party, and you have a deep
well of talent to draw all that musical water from. Your production is
as neat and grand as ever, nothing extraneous nor lacking in any
significant way.

Makes me long for the 80's, a time when music had melody and lyrics
had more fun! If the present time wasn't so hopelessly mired in the
dissonant ranting of gangsta rap and the cheap monotony of slutty
hip-hop, this kind of music would prevail and make you a star.

'You must be the lovechild of Simon Lebon and Rick Ocasek,
and sound better (and look prettier, maybe) than either of them :-)' - god, that's a scary thought - when I get round to posting a photo, maybe we'll find out.

' If the present time wasn't so hopelessly mired in the
dissonant ranting of gangsta rap and the cheap monotony of slutty
hip-hop, this kind of music would prevail and make you a star.' - hell, I'm too old to be on telly now, but that's a pretty good summation of Popular Music now. It is great that there is music around on MacJams that is different to what's cluttering up the charts.

Leon - what can i say - you make me blush, and coming from someone with your talent, I really appreciate your comments.

Now this is what I call "rock"! &mdash 01/10/06 - 07:26:44 AM
I came here after your comment on the forum where you said you would describe the Smiths as indie-rock. I like what you have done and I agree with the other comments about your energy! Definitely rock

Thanks apa4.
I don't know whether you'd call this track indie rock or pop, or neither (maybe it's just rock?).

Maybe it should remain nameless!

Cheers man - as someone who can barely play 2 chords together, I appreciate the ramones comparison!

sound, but &mdash 02/27/06 - 06:54:56 PM
I agree about it having an '80's sound, but it reminds me more of James Hall (Mary My Hope, James Hall Band, Pleasure Club). Excellent performances! I feel the mix is a little stiff, but this is good overall. Cheers!

sound, but &mdash 03/01/06 - 02:28:37 AM
Thanks for the feedback, jmt.
I grew up with 80's music (Echo and the Bunnymen and the like), so i guess there is a lot of influence there, although it's all come around again with bands like the Killers!

Never heard of James Hall - I'll check him out.

Your comments about the mix are spot on - it'st he aspect that I've generally struggled most with, basically through lack of experience. I've tended to EQ every track, and just use presets - 'Summertime' was the first song I've tried to EQ differently, and use less - any further coments/ advice will be much appreciated.

hmmm... &mdash 04/16/07 - 01:25:24 PM
I came here from reading J.C's post (I'm the female vocalist who's 'working on it'...), and I have to say the minimal chords, and your vocals and even the content reminds me of a couple of Lou Reed songs...

That refrain is very cool. Great writing...

lou! &mdash 04/17/07 - 02:09:16 AM
Hey Estellie - great to hear from you! This was done very much in a lour reed style, with incredibly minimal (i.e. crap) guitar playing from me, but you know what.... this is one of my fav songs - I love the vocal harmonies at the end. Be really interested to hear what you work on with CJ - I'm very jealous he's got you to work with him!

yeah... &mdash 04/17/07 - 03:52:07 PM
I forgot I was going to mention I like the moments when you harmonize down instead of up. But now I noticed how great the harmonies at the end are, too.

You know, there's no reason why a two-chord song can't be every bit as good as songs with more chords. I like them 'cause it leaves me more room to work with vocally. I can just wale and riff away on those. I think that's why the VU liked the simpler structures, 'cause they could just go crazy with them.

That reminds me, I have a very unusual two-chord song I haven't posted yet. It's on the list now...

Keep it simple.... &mdash 04/18/07 - 01:55:57 AM
.... although i have no option but to keep it simple, as I have to find song chords from a list of piano song chords I printed off the web! I find i listen more and more to how songs are constructed chord-wise, and a lot of stuff (especialy popular songs) are really simple. look forward to hearing your two-odd -chord song!

Spot on &mdash 05/13/07 - 02:14:49 AM
Yes, if you analyse the subtext of the lyric on this track, you will find that one of the main themes of this song is both male and female, er, oral stimulation. Not a genre particulary well covered in todays pop mainstream .... let's see Chris Martin wear a friggin' wrist band about that!

80's hangover &mdash 05/16/07 - 01:41:39 AM
thanks AJ. I've got a soft spot for this song, as it's basically the kinda stuff i used to play when i was in a band in the late 80's - 3 minute power pop songs. Never thought of Talking Heads, but yeah, see what you mean.

LOL

Raw &mdash 12/21/07 - 12:34:15 AM
Steve,
Who the f*ck knew? This is rockin' and raw. I had no idea, what grande huevo's mi hermano! The guitar is hot and driving! Is that you, before you put it in the attic? The french girls are an inspiration! Loved it. Watch for a post from me called "Midnight Snack" about much the same subject...These older catalogue songs are showing me a whole new side of you. I'm getting ideas for the future....

Yeah, every chord played seperately and stuck together - nightmare! Now you know why I'm so happy we work together!
