Description
This tune was made by:
Mackie, 8, guitar
thepeep, 8, harmonica and bass
Sunbeam, 7, vocals, new MacJammer from today on ...
All composition is of the kids. All the vocals are made by the kids. All the instruments are played by the kids, (except the drum loop which is of GarageBand).
Mackie’s dad presentation:
The project was started by Mackie and me having the idea of inviting thepeep for a collab. Together we picked a cool drum loop in GarageBand and Mackie immediately started plaing this old trad melody to it. It was very unplanned and spontaneous. Mackie also invented this guitar riff on the spot. After recording a few rounds, he was pleased with it and so I helped him to loop it.
Then we sent it to thepeep asking if he would like to add hamonica to it. What I didn’t think of at that moment was that we were gonna set thepeep at a quite difficult task because of the irregular beat we had created.
thepeep's dad presentation:
thepeep was thrilled when Mackie and Cori Ander sent the original files for this tune last summer. Being the boy that he is, he worked on it off and on, when the spirit moved him, for months. The deal was, he had to play whatever was played himself. He naturally wanted to play harmonica; Mackie and Cori had purposely chosen the key of G because they knew thepeep had a harmonica in that key.
He also has been fascinated with my little Oxygen 8 keyboard and all the sounds that it can make with GarageBand. We eventually settled on doing a bass part with the keyboard. thepeep had to learn the part, which involved three notes and lots of counting. You will note that the main riff of the song is "regular but irregular"; he had to learn two different counts to pull it off. The bass part is played through, not looped, after many practice sessions and takes. There are two harmonica tracks, which are improvised.
Sunbeam’s dads presentation:
Getting the tune back from thepeep with harmonica recorded was great for us; he had made a really nice work! And as a nice bonus surprize he had also recorded bass! It was now a very complete tune with good groove. A really nice KidsBand.
I still felt it needed something to top it. It was like a good kids rock n’ roll band with no singer, so I asked Mackie’s little sister; new MacJammer ”Sunbeam", for help. She agreed and on the spot she improvised two takes of vocals. Then she thought it was well and done. So that was what I had to play around with for the final mix.
Final word by Ejh:
Kudos and thanks to Mackie and Cori for starting this project and inviting us in, to Sunbeam for singing, to Mackie's dad for mixing the resulting tracks and coming up with such a good rock & roll photo montage.

Lyrics
Ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah ...
I want an animal friend
Mommy and daddy don’t get that --- what?
I want an animal friend
Mommy and daddy don’t get that
Let take it once again ... in swedish ... one level higher
Any more requests?
Any more?
OK
No more requests?
I want an animal friend
Mommy and daddy don’t get that
I, I, I, I, yes, yes
I, I, I, I, yes, yes
baboon friend ... yes ... baboon friend
one ... baboon friend ... one ... baboon friend
Imagine, imagine, imagine, imagine, imagine, imagine, imagine, imagine
Mommy and daddy don’t get that
Imagine, imagine, imagine, imagine, imagine, imagine, imagine, imagine
Mommy and daddy don’t get that
Yes ... OK ... something more difficult thanks
Ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah ...
I want an animal friend
Mommy and daddy don’t get that --- what?
I want an animal friend
Mommy and daddy don’t get that
Let take it once again ... in swedish ... one level higher
