Description
Hi folks - I wrote this awhile ago - I have a country sounding demo version, but my friends Ronnie Leach's band does this bluesy live version that I really like more. Though I've changed the lyrics a bit since this recording.

Lyrics
Black-Eyed Susan
Kristin Colier/ Mike Orlin

Black Eyed Susan
Reachin’ for the sun
Are you losin’?
A game that can’t be won
Are you tired?
Of pleasin’ everyone
Black Eyed Susan
The summer days are done

Black Eyed Susan
Do you think that you’re to blame?
For the darkness
The thunder and the rain
Your only crime
Is trying to hang on
Black Eyed Susan
Those good old days are gone

Don’t you know the days are getting colder?
Susan dear, you know you’re getting older
Aren’t you tired of being yellow, black and blue?
Livin’ shouldn’t be this hard to do

Black Eyed Susan
It’s time to let go
Are you choosin’
To hide beneath the snow
You might think
That winter never ends
Black Eyed Susan
The sun will shine again

I thought by now you’d know
The seasons come and go
You’ll grow and the sun will shine again

Sooo....
A question for you, Kristin- are we ever gonna hear you sing any of these
wonderful songs you write?

Really like this bluesy version- guitar is very tasty. The singer also has a
very appealing voice. But then, I suppose they had some great material to
work with!

Thanks!
Hi folks. Thanks for listening!
Ok, aclarke, I'm actually working on one that needs music and a singer. I have a melody though, so I guess I'll have to upload a rough version of me siging so one of you very talented people can figure out how it's supposed to sound.
Be careful what you wish for :-)

Good mood
Nice to hear a live recording. I can see the pub crowded with people enjoying this with some refreshments along:)

Good song. I liked it a lot. D/L and faved.

Very good performance from these guys. As aclarke, I'm looking forward to hear you perform a song of your own:)

Another great song
You've got a great touch! These lyrics are very painterly at the same time that they resonate very deeply, I think anyone could identify, I sure do. Very nice melody and progression - the song seems almost effortless in its flight. The band does a good job with this, and I agree - with material like this, it's a natural thang.

love the tune
love the acoustic rhythm, love the vox, bass. Have a major problem
with the lead riffing over the vocals tho. Fills, are just that, fills, ie they
"fill" the space in between vocal lines.

Keep 'em coming.

whoa
yer some sort of genius lyricist. small, little tremendous story. performed and sung very well. but the words are the hero here. it's very sweet, very sad. weep for the flower losing petals. just like us humans, excellent ms. PG

great tune
I loved this melody, nice job. The only improvement i would say is turn the lead guitar down a bit so the singer doesnt have to compete with it. Nice licks though and good acoustic sound. Great all the way around. Woot this is a keeper.

Living live
Really nice. I also dig the live feel. Solid tune, solid performance, solid
feel.

Elegant Reflections
Great! One thing I really like about this is that the structure of the lyrics as well as the melody and harmony of the song reflect the same theme: the tensions among cyclical change, constancy and so-called "progress." The choice of the central image, the Black-Eyed Susan is brilliant in this regard; an annual flower that has both gold (summer, sun, hope) and black (winter, darkness despair) and it is the contrast that makes the flower beautiful. (Try to imagine instead an "all-yellow" or "all-black" flower).
