Description:
If there is a song that exemplifies my macjam's experience to me...it's EINARUS's Remembrance. This was my first collab that was something other than laying a few choruses of blues on someone else's song. For Remembrance, I wrote parts, as well as soloed...and Einarus's composition became something of a landmark in my mind. Since then, I have collaborated with many folks, and every one has been fun and exhilarating. And you have a song when your done! It is remarkable!

The very greatest thing about paricipating in this community is the opportunity to create music with all kinds of musicians from everywhere. It stretches your skills, your imagination and your ability to deal with sleep deprivation. I have presently collabs under way with McBoy and Tadashi. I may not sleep for a while.

This particular piece was a true collaboration, with the mind boggling Perceptual Vortex creating the groove, DrewKopr, the big ole bottom end and chord structure and yours truly on the guitar barrage. I am hoping to do more with these great great musicians, and we can become a virtual band ...known as shufflerbones....

Thanks to dave thomas and drew koplan for this great, fun piece of music.

i have no idea what the guys use...but this is my standard gear, PRS guitars and Line6 pod

again...I used GB...the guys used other things i think.

jazzy &mdash 01/07/06 - 07:36:06 PM
pretty nice guitar work. it almost takes on sounding like a violin or something. like the clean change. it gives it a bit of jazz feel. it sounds more like a jazz or blues piece to me then funk. funk often has more of a driving bass.

Okay, don't get mad, Z, &mdash 01/07/06 - 07:52:22 PM
knowing how you don't like comparisons, if I do note, sort of
tangentially, a certain Beck-ish-ness to the proceedings... and I'm
talking about that Beck that has a first name...

Sort of 'Blow By Blow' and 'Wired' era Beck...

Drumming sounds real and loud with lots of air and space to it... it
sounds like a big drummer with a big kit, if you know what I mean...

Drew's bass playing is precisely What Is Called For... both melodic and
rhythmic, both in motion and something you can hang your hat on...

And ziti, I can hear you going after that quality you got with Einarus, of
both a worked out piece and a place for improv...

And gentlemen, this can be a GREAT ongoing virtual band... My only
word of warning, since all of you are chopmeisters, is not to get so
smoothly virtuosic that you slip over that professional edge and end up
sounding like the Letterman or Leno or Saturday Night Live bands...
Leave room for some fire, I think is what I'm saying....

But that's a thought for the future... This is a very exciting and
potential-filled beginning...

Ed

ed...as always you are right on....this has the potential to be years worth of
fun...PV's electric drums are so tight and snappy and un-friggen loopy, that
it's just like playing with a REALLY good drummer. Drew is a goon like
me...our sensibilities seem similar. He seems to play on ten, intesity wise-
most of the time...and he has a goofy sense'o humor...brothers from a
different mother....
I think we are underway with song number two....

Shufflerbones? &mdash 01/07/06 - 11:08:28 PM
What exactly is this blues-jazz-funk monster?

A very cool/hot jam. Nice licks in all registers.

Strange, adventurous and interesting variations.

Nice start, guys.

Hits hard! &mdash 01/07/06 - 11:45:08 PM
Jeeze, that hits hard Zetes! Great friggin' guitar parts, especially when I listen with headphones and can hear all the licks, rhythms, backbeat guitar parts, solos, and sounds. I really like those melodic phrases in the beginning as well. Of course, I totally dig PV's drum work. Great collab!!!!!!!!

Great piece &mdash 01/08/06 - 12:17:06 AM
This is a real collaboration. There's a whole wealth of great guitar tones there. The saturated ones at the beginning and the clean ones afterwards. Great Bass playing and drumming. I'm impressed. I just got a Line 6 pod a few weeks ago. Hope I cand record some stuff that sounds as good tone wise as what you have.

POD damn!!! &mdash 01/10/06 - 06:38:54 PM
hey stratcat....you will love the pod....the amp models sound like the amps
modeled! Although I have never played thru many of the brands of amps
they sampled, I can say that you can get n absolute authentic super-reverb
sound using the black panel setting with the 4x10 speaker emulation. That's
the basic setting i use to create most of my sounds....also pay attention to the
compression effects...they KILL. Another tip...get your sounds with
headphones thru the headphone jack...not thru yer monitor speakers...you
can really hear what your recorded tone will sound like. Very often, after the
tone i want is set, i play live thru the monitors with my GB file blaring...almost
like the real thing!!!

Shufflerbones rocks! &mdash 01/08/06 - 02:33:55 AM
Brilliant playing all round guys, and a nice vehicle for Fran to go off! I'd
love a fuller sound though, with Drew's bass more up front, but hey,
what do you expect from a bass player?! Fran, your multiple guitar
parts are just insane. Crazy enough that you can think them, but even
crazier that you can make them happen. Look forward to more.

LOVE IT!
Neil

No doubt, this is soaked.. &mdash 01/08/06 - 05:11:04 AM
..with quality musicians and great performances. The guitars makes a dreamy soundscape, and the drum and bass are pushing forward in a vigorous way.

I think a little something to hold on to at some points could hold the improvisations together. I'm of course thinking of a hook-line:)

You kept it short enough to not get jammed away tough.

Looking forward to more from you guys. It's very exciting that you are thinking of a virtual band.

Works For Me &mdash 01/08/06 - 06:01:49 AM
Great collab, Ziti I liked the screaming tone offset later by the funky
clean work. Drew great bass work, l always like a good bass slap now
and then and PV sure can put together a drum loop can't he?

Big Bottom! &mdash 01/08/06 - 06:23:02 AM
First that sick drum sound, then Drew's brain bashing bass groove.... and
when I thought it couldn't get any better Ziti plays some mind blowing
guitar over it. Freakin' outstanding song, gents!

For some reason I listen to this and envision Chevy Chase as Fletch.

Get the funk up... &mdash 01/08/06 - 07:22:56 AM
...and party down!

The hard, crisp drum groove, the catchy bass line and the hypnotic guitar
is a treat for the senses. (at least one of them)

Brilliant!

Fantastically funky. &mdash 01/08/06 - 08:58:49 AM
Loved the riffs and solos in this jam. Such a funky bass and drum...
with great solos over the top. I also liked how you used a couple of
different timbres here, both in the guitar solos and with the inclusion
of the piano at times. And as said before the jam was kept nice and
snappy which is cool too.

Only other comments would be about the mix. The bass seemed
slightly to the right of the mix which put it a little off balance. The
high hats seemed to 'bleed' constantly from the center to the right side
which was somewhat odd and un-natural for a drum kit. And on
occasions, some of your backup guitar playing (and some other sounds
too I think) in the left and right channels quite frequently had too much
bass to them making the mix sound muddy at times.

Very cool though... and thank goddness there was no fade out :P

Well I wouldn't expect anything less &mdash 01/08/06 - 08:59:06 AM
from the three of you. This is a fine piece of music with a nice groove
and lots of dynamics. And Z I like the variety of guitar parts you came
up with, give the songs a lot of size and depth. Nice work all of you.-

Damn!!!! This is really an amazing piece of...everything! Just so tight, well-played, well-produced, etc., etc. Ziti, your playing always blows my mind. You just listen so well to the space around you in your playing. (As opposed to just ripping out as many notes as possible) Your guitar really sings when you play it. PV, my hat is off to you as usual. You just create the best beats over and over again. Your grooves are just special. Man. Needless to say, downloaded, fav'd.

To steal someone's line...

This song had a good, strong vibe throughout. Makes me wish that the
Jeff Beck/Stanley Clarke/Tony Hymas/Simon Phillips band that toured
Japan had released some music. This will do.

This was &mdash 01/08/06 - 12:18:27 PM
fun and easy for me: I just had to find the right assemblage of loops for these two cool cats to jam over. Something that swings for ziti and funks out for Drew, heheh. You guys both laid down really tasty, clean and pro tracks, and this turned out very cool. Ziti, those leads are all ear candy, well done! So, should I start the next groove?

I am always very impressed when i hear playing like this..... It sounds so unreal to me that it is even possible.... Well i guess that is because im a terrible player :). And of course it is because you sound damn good! The song has great "flow" and a very soothing sound, and still it sounds full of energy. Almost sounds like a live recording, but with lots better sound quality! Nice tune! SeE you later!

Powerful and fun &mdash 01/10/06 - 04:19:10 PM
What a fun piece! The bass almost blew my eardrums at regular volume. Simple, but very effective riff and clean recording. The drums sound surprisingly fresh and real (are they recorded or played in via midi?). Guitar playing is quite awesome too. The "interludes" are timed just right to catch a breath before the main theme comes back! Sounds like someone had a good time recording this one!

Great beat, blazing guitar, groovin' bass.....what else do ya need? it's all here.

I like the chord structure and catchy riffs, which carry this piece along nicely. Very catchy.

I find myself unable to write a lot of analysis on this....because I just enjoyed listening! This made me feel good in an inarticulate way -- LOL!

It's like a very flavorful cup of coffee. Great taste which gets you going.
