except of course for all the fun you must've all had!

Rebsie's being a good teacher I think. Sounds good - for what I'm
assuming is the built in mic?

Enjoyin the song too. :) All the heartbreak of it hehe.

Such a nice feeling this is, like a campfire, only inside! Is this mainly multitracked or is much of it live? It certainly has a very live feel and that's part of what makes this such a lovely track, nothing like a singalong to make one's heart feel right. There's the "high lonesome" harmony that rises to the top every now and again, and it's such a mournful song, but the company you're keeping has a calming effect. Love the talking and laughter at the end - this is a perfect snapshot of a good time all 'round. Some of the vocals come off a little hot and overdrive just a tad, but you did a great job mixing and performing, Caroline!

thank you bing - we have a lot of campfires at my place! two tracks - one with 4 voices live and then 3 more bunged onto another track!! so i guess that makes all of it live! glad you liked it - i'm really getting my teeth into gb now with multitudinous thanks to my dear, dear rebsie who brought me to mj in the first place - yeah rebsie!!!

Well the banks of Ohio are something I know a lot about. They take all
my money and I never see any of it. :-). Oh maybe you mean the Ohio
River, well I have spent a lot of time there with my love, photography. I
have taken many pictures along those banks. I can tell from all who are
singing you had a wonderful afternoon with friends. And you have such a
nice singing voice caroline. I enjoyed listening.-JAC

It really was very nice. And the Ohio River forms the southern border of my
state, Indiana.

Beautiful singing. A warm feeling is evoked by the whole track. Is that you
on guitar? You sound great.

Thanks, Caroline.

(The song says "Explicit." I didn't hear anything that would qualify for that
distinction. All rather wholesome, which is fine by me.)

chugs along &mdash 01/09/06 - 08:38:56 AM
This is one of my favorite songs, sort of a creepy story put to a sing-song
melody. This version marches along nicely but could be a bit more
dramatic given the subject matter. You all sound a bit like the old Pete
Seeger group, the Weavers, and that sounds like fun!

What a lovely song about killing someone. And it sounds like you had
such a great time singing it too. All you need now is to have a couple
of people in the background... not singing, but doing all the sound
effects for the story line.... could make it interesting.

What would pink and fluffy be without dark and burbly (or is that
burbouney)? Very good down-home feel. I enjoyed the "wandering
harmonies" (good name for a band?)

One of my favorite vacations was driving along the roads that follow the
Ohio River (without a body in the trunk of my car, honest). Thanks for
triggering those memories.
Of course the lyrics here aren't meant to evoke happiness, but WTF.

this is lovely. your voice is beautiful as ussual. there's some parts where the vocals seem to fade out a bit. not sure if that was intentional or not. i went to ohio a few summers ago, the summer i met alexz. so ohio has some significance for me. sounds like you had a great time! can't wait to here more.

Move over Peter, Paul, & Mary... &mdash 01/11/06 - 10:14:58 AM
the sixty's folk generation has returned... and as good as
ever. Reminds me of being at a live outdoor concert in
Washington DC back in 1971... a number of folk groups at
an anti-war rally. Ancient history...
I join in hearty agreement with the others. Wonderful live
song.

Singing your way to the bank(s of Ohio)! &mdash 01/11/06 - 09:17:20 PM
Caroline, I always have listened to your songs. You consistenly have heart
and passion and fun in all your songs. They are very heatwarming and
reminds me of my own family, which also likes to sing together, like
around a campfire or barbecue pit :-). After appreciating your body of
work, I gotta put you in my own hall of fame -- my fav jammers list.

it's like i was right there.... &mdash 01/12/06 - 10:22:27 AM
Very nice feeling on this tune -- you all obviously had a great time performing it together.

There's nothing quite like a live performance. The snowball mic does a pretty good job of recording all the many sounds in the room, but it needs a FRIEND! -- lol. The voices came through very well (especially one of them!), but the guitars sounded a bit distant. So the underpinning of rhythm and chords provided by those instruments was a bit "understated" on this track.

That's where a second microphone (or even a third one) would help matters greatly. Especially in a live performance with many players and sounds that are coming from various directions.

It's really nice to hear folk songs like this; the good feelings of your gathering shine through brightly in this recording. We can ALL stand to have our days brightened!

Something to be said for lo-fi &mdash 01/24/06 - 10:51:00 AM
We hear enough songs on MJ that are heavily produced with layer upon layer of sound. It's a pleasing change to hear a song with realtime layering and only two different instruments. Having been to many a jam session party (eat first, sing later), this one cast my mind to happy times, and I thank you for that. I would complain about the highest female voice sounding a bit far away, but I'm not in a complaining mood. I'll go with the operative word others here have used: fun!
