Description:
Ummm, this song marks my triumphant return to music creation after a long battle with a Diablo 2 addiction. There's a bit of funny in it, a splash of 70's musical (I had to see Cats this fall :P), and some scatterbrained lyrics. I know--more of the same. Enjoy.
Oh damn, I played the piano! Yeah, the piano part is done by me! The non-piano player! Yay!
The cat has nothing to do with the song.
Lyrics:
Smelly Tuna
You make me wretch
Smelly Tuna
You are my friend
Though the times have been good for us
like the fire in a castle, thwarted by stone
My apparent lack of ‘fridgeration
Turned you away and made me alone (chorus)
As the water droplets fade into sunrise
and the mist envelopes apple sneeze
doggie snack provide a pleasant picture
of sadie hawkins’ knees (chorus)
(Bridge)
When we all fall down
london bridge stealing breath
strugglin ‘gainst the antique concrete
let the power of love
break the bonds of death real soon
(Chorus lots)
Hardware:
eMac, my bass, my new beautiful bass amp (David Eden Time Traveller), wife's piano.

GB2 (finally--yay!)

Outstanding! &mdash 01/10/06 - 11:30:23 PM
This is fantastic! I can really see some poor chap lamenting over the loss
of his tuna due to neglect that is just tearing him apart because he could
have, he should have been able to prevent it. And now he is filled with
pain over his loss.
Brillant! Faved.
Good piano playing. Glad to hear that you survived that bought with
Diablo 2. That has stricken far to many of my friends. [ Reply to This ]

Thanks for your kind remarks. Personally, I think tuna smells when its fresh.
Now that you mention it, this is my second song (third if you include both
versions of my Milk Song) that laments a waste of edibles. Perhaps with my 3
kids I see a lot of food getting wasted. Thanks again for commenting!

I Lunch You (Smelly Tuna) &mdash 01/11/06 - 07:52:55 AM
Absolutely stunning and creative. A song provoking all of the emotions from laughter to sadness to sheer gut-busting laughter. The piano music and singing are both professional and awesome. One of your best songs yet! [ Reply to This ]

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYY! &mdash 01/11/06 - 09:12:11 AM
Pooey has a new song! The heavens have opened up and God is
smiling down on me... for I am blessed on this Wednesday
morning and this is my soundtrack. Pooey, how do I love thee?
Let me count the ways... you're the meaning in my life, you're the
inspiration, you bring feeling to my life, you're the inspiration!
What a wonderful song you have here... it almost made me cry,
but I laughed instead....and then I cried. [ Reply to This ]

Umm, Stun, I never knew you felt this way..(quickly minimizes window as fellow staff member walks by). But thank you. Getting back into the GB thing fells really good. And it's nice to know that my composition has somehow enhanced your Wednesday (and apparently your life). Just for your awesome comments i will write another. And have it done in less than 8 months.
And we will collab again. Aight? Let's see what the voice enhancers do to the macspeech eh!?

Nice work!
I deeply enjoy tuna. From a certain point of view.
Thanks for confronting the issue of antique concrete!

Wow! &mdash 01/11/06 - 10:34:51 AM
Thank you. I agree that for too many years children have been innocent (ignorant) to the devastation of something like a bridge collapsing. We must teach our beloved ones to sing such folk songs in a minor key, with a sombre tone.

Something truly transcendent about this track. Your lyrics are excellent.
I'm really glad they were written out, tho, cuz your do sing them like they
are not as cool as they really are. I don't mind the obvious humor in your
voice, I like it, in fact; but a more musical theatre articulation might have
brought the surreality and wit across more. Such a delightful mix of
tangentially deep meaning, poetic phrases, absurdist notions and post-
modern alienation, a great mix. What will the dancing girls sing in the
next scene? [ Reply to This ]

Thanks Tobin!
Hey wait, is that sarcasm?
You know, my wife did suggest to me that I do a musical. And funnily enough, I
had already conceived it: some kind of anti-food-wasting thing. Would be
funny. Call it: EATS! Dancing girls, eh? Now that deserves consideration...
As always, your comments are mucho encouraging. Thanks again!

I also love "Cat Food" by King Crimson. About a homeless person eating cat
food, back when cat food cost less than human food. [ Reply to This ]
Sounds fishy to me... &mdash 01/17/06 - 10:00:26 PM
For a non-piano player, I thought you played very well. Definite show tune vibe with this, but I forgive you because of the lyrics. Nice range in your voice, and the melody was very catchy. Well done. Thanks for posting it. [ Reply to This ]
Sounds fishy to me... &mdash 01/18/06 - 08:19:52 AM
Thank you! The piano part came out a little too perfect: yes, I hit the align button. I wasn't that far off with my timing, but I pushed it anyways, and it sounds more like a midi loop :P. I wish there was an align button that was like "nearly align" so that it left a little human error in the sound.
Thanks again!

Awesome &mdash 01/17/06 - 11:38:33 PM
This is great. It sounds like Five For Fighting with a sense of humour or irony. Loving it a lot.
Congrats on kicking the Diablo habit, BTW. That's why I've never bought World of Warcraft... [ Reply to This ]
Awesome &mdash 01/18/06 - 08:23:06 AM
WoW is to Diablo2 as Crack is to pot. WoW is evil and yes, I too will never touch it. I was reading a Macleans magazine article entitled "XBox Widows", and it mentioned a wife of a WoW addict. She was quoted as saying "the last time we had sex was when the server was down." I wasn't that bad with D2, but bad enough. It got in the way of making songs about rotten fish!!!
Thanks for the comment!

this is funny, and your voice is good. it's disturbingly beautiful for such a comedic song. if i were to ignore the lyrics it'd be something worth crying too lol. the piano is beautiful. did you lose your friend? [ Reply to This ]

Ha, a friend of mine is mad at me for making a joke out of such a beautiful
song. I have a hard time writing serious songs I guess. Thanks for the
comment!

its sometimes easier to put feeling into something you don't take serious because if it seems like a joke you feel less open. sort of like the explaining a situation as "i have a friend who" instead of stating its your problem. beautiful song.

Tasty! &mdash 01/19/06 - 12:31:58 AM
This is without doubt the best song about tuna that I've ever heard.
Nice playing, great voice and lyrics - still worried about the lyrics.
Excellent work- now go clean out the fridge.

The little sob part ... HA HA &mdash 01/19/06 - 09:51:32 PM
this fish you sing of is either "swimming with the fishes" now .... "living with Nemo" .... or is in my sandwich as we speak ... provided we don't actually cook the Tuna ... its really quite nice and tasty ... however..... I will have a hard time eating the sandwich now without singing this song to it first and perhaps saying a little prayer ... that he bravely gave up his life so that I may eat .... the little sobbing part got me tho .... and I had to download it! The little sob part ... HA HA &mdash 01/20/06 - 11:39:05 AM
I've increased your awareness to the tuna sacrifice ...you have an increased
sense of loss when indulging in fish 'n' chips, and all because of me. I
am...ummm...flattered.
The sobby part was actually inspired by the Cats musical I saw this past fall.
You know, the old cat who sings with a crackly voice (at which point in the
musical I had to fight with all my resolve the urge to stand up and yell "Gimme a
f***in break!). Glad you liked it, Amanda! Thanks for the comment.
p.s. sorry if I am offending any CATS! fans. I just COULDN'T STAND IT!!!

Love the piano, and great singing. In fact, the vocals reminded me of Gentle Giant from Octopus in parts. I love cats too, but damn do they eat stinky food! [ Reply to This ]
Excellent! &mdash 01/24/06 - 09:56:40 PM
I don't know the Gentle Giant from Octopus reference, but I will assume its a
good thing and say Thanks! And yeah, the cat's food smells, but the litter box
smells worse. Is it bad that I have the two fairly close together?

Sorry about the obscure reference, but yup that's a good thing! Do the
cats care if you keep all their stinky business in one place? They might
prefer it that way. They like stinkiness.
