Description
Song I wrote back in 1981 after having experienced the life of a lounge bound musician playing all the horrid pop tunes of the day for people who mostly wanted to eat their dinner. It provides a glimpse into the conflicted emotions I had about being a working musician and traveling. It wasn't as cool and glamorous as I'd hoped, but at the same time life back in my home town wasn't quite the same any more either. I've always loved this song (among my songs) and have attempted recording it several times. This version actually started almost 2 years ago in GB1 (in feb). I had a mostly finished version but wanted some female backup vocals. After I worked up the courage to contact her, Amanda (Mason at the time) Chapman graciously agreed to help out, but it took a while due to her busy schedule of working on cruise ships and the general back and forth. When she finished she sent me an MP3 (and she'd worked from an MP3) and I wanted to get a better mix, so I asked her for the GB file, but by the time we connected again, due to my lack of persistence - she'd cleaned her drive. She offered to re-do them, and this time I sent her a gb file (and re-worked a few things before hand). What we ended up with is something I'm extremely happy with. Hope you all like it too.

Lyrics
They say the road is paved with gold,
and strewn with golden hair,
From the beauties that inhabit every town.
What they forget to mention
are the long and lonely nights,
that you feel that no one cares that you’re around
Chorus:
The road, the road, the road.
You love it, never leave it,
but even so, it brings you down...
The Road.
The ladies on the road
can be a heaven sent relief,
or just another little trap to bring you down.
They are lovely, some are willing,
but they remind you
of that someone you left behind, in your town.
Chorus
The time you serve in dirty, small hotel rooms
makes you think you really do, miss your home,
but when you get back there and stay a while
you remember
why you started out in the first place, to roam.
Chorus
The folks at home can be so cold ‘cause they just can’t understand
what it takes to make a man want to play,
and sometimes it gets so bad, you don’t quite know yourself,
but you know, that you can’t stay...
Chorus
and strewn with golden hair,
From the beauties that inhabit every town.
What they forget to mention

that you feel that no one cares that you’re around
Chorus:
The road, the road, the road.
