Keywords:
blues (365)Chicago (18)dadai (31)jam (57)guitar (860)live (89)organ (74)harmonica (36)instrumental. (5)
Description:
LIVE at the DIVE down on the corner.... not really. If you don't like the blues then this is not for you. It is an over-ten-minute "live" instrumental blues jam featuring harmonica, electric guitar, organ, and synth tenor sax (via Yamaha psr 293 tenor settings). I call it The Chicago Crawl because the solos crawl from one instrument to the next as you might do in a live jam at a gig... every member of the band gets a solo shot (except the drummer and the bassman 'cause here they are loops). Maybe next time with a real tenor... it's on my to buy list.
So hit the play button and step back from the computer and have a listen.

Guitar, harmonica, organ, and synth tenor by Dadai.

Lyrics:
Instrumental

Hardware:
iBook G3, M-Audio MobilePre, SM57, Alesis X guitar, Yamaha PSR 293, Hohner blues harp.

this is a very solid/satisfying blues piece.
in fact it has actually inspired me to whip
out some BB king right now. Good work.

Very enjoyable, Jack. Unfortunate thing about loops is that you can't
indicate to them you want to go into a double time shuffle.
You've been saying you need to get a tenor again for at least a year now,
when are you going to do it? None of us is getting younger. ;)

The tenor is working its way up to the top of the "must buy" list. Hopefully
sometime this year. Thanks for taking the time to listen, Bill.

LOL. And the best part about the bassman is that he plays for free
and he always shows up for rehearsal!

Wow! &mdash 01/16/06 - 01:30:34 PM
I was in for a surprise on this one.
Fabulous jam, Jack!
This would be perfect to listen to at a streetcorner cafe. So nice to hear
this--and best thing about it is that it does sound 'live'-- which just adds
to its charm.
Fabulous!

Thanks for posting this!

some harp tootin' &mdash 01/16/06 - 02:05:38 PM
I can hear that you enjoyed making this. A blues jam with yourself.
I guess that new guitar of yours hasn't been sitting alone much;)

Only thing missing is some lyrics and a bottle of scotch to get that blues voice ready.

I must admit that usually i find bluesjams a bit boring after I've heard the 12 first bars... But I can feel your honest energy flowing through all 10 minute or so:) So I stayed all the way and enjoyed it:)

Thanks!

You nailed ith thoddi... I really did enjoy making this, expecially the
guitar parts. I respect your bluesmanship, so it is meaningful to me
that you liked this and thought it worth a listen all the way through.

Sounds loose and live to me... &mdash 01/16/06 - 02:58:34 PM
The general vibe of the recording conveys people playing a rough 'n
ready blues jam in a single space. Doesn't sound all disjointed the way
some overdubbed "jammin' with myself" things (including mine) can
do.

The guitar is nicely rough, like it's played through a crappy old amp. All
the instrumental parts sound fine and are played fine.

I'll be a lot of MacJammers end up pulling out their instruments for this
nicely tailored and generously extended ten minute jam.... Whether
they admit it or not...

I always enjoy and appreciated your analysis. The dirty guitar sound
is one of the 100's of possible settings on this new guitar. It did seem
to fit this tune. Hope all is well with you.

Thanks

All the members of the band thank you for the kudos, except the
bassman and the drummer. They're irked that they are not getting
enough recognition. You know those union musicians....

Fire the bass and drum players! &mdash 01/17/06 - 03:21:00 PM
I love your harmonica and guitar playing, they are just so beautifully
true and hot!

Though I have ongoing difficulties with the bass and drum players,
they are not with the rest of you other guys, they just refuse to get hot,
something that harmonica and guitar contributions like this require!
My advice is to fire them, (and since they are just machines they wont
get hurt either).

Ah, here comes the saxophone, wow so good for being synth stuff! But
there is a man at the keys, right? A soul man!

Mmm here is harmonica again, soo nice ...

No problem with length. With a real band I would gladly digest this for
45 minutes or more!

Nice jam &mdash 01/18/06 - 09:35:35 AM
Really laid-back. I especially like the harp and sax. That's a great midi-sax sound. For most of it, it had a very organic natural sound. Is it a jam-pack product? It worth the price of the jam-pack just for a good synth sax. Nice jam Mr. D

Sweet, sweet blues -- &mdash 01/18/06 - 10:15:08 AM
Hey, nice harp! Would love to have you virtually sit in on something o' mine - this is a nice groove that you've built here. The guitar solo occupies its space very well with lots of dynamics of expression, the other solos don't seem to have the same kind of exploratory feel, but they're well-conceived and performed. this is better than a lot of the bands around town here, no lie! Nice job!

nice harmonica &mdash 01/18/06 - 02:29:28 PM
It's not very often someone takes the time to do something *coherent*
with a harmonica... I really like this. It all blends together. The sax synth
doesn't sound half bad.
Long but it's not boring, just flowing. Think I may download and save for
a good occasion.

nice blues &mdash 01/18/06 - 03:21:50 PM
I don't have time to write my usual verbose comments, except to say that I enjoyed listening to this piece. Very realistic-sounding, good groove. The drums were just a little stiff and automated, but not bad! Overall this sounded great.

Really groovy &mdash 01/19/06 - 06:22:58 PM
Dig this tune... some real nice blues bits with some really cool trade
offs. The harmonica is way good and the rest of the instruments just
blend in and compliment each other so well. Your guitar just sings,
rules the mood and demands that it's in charge. Thanks for sharing.

OK, I gotta tell you this &mdash 01/24/06 - 07:10:18 AM
Jack,I never even liked listening to blues music, but after hearing this, I
immediately listened to it again, then I downloaded it. It never got
boring like some longer songs can be. Someday I hope to be a real
composer. Amazing stuff you do. I never knew the blues could be
so...happy! Thank you! :-)

This is in my Itunes jam folder I am gonna have some fun jammin along with ya. 10 mins seems short for a jam session though, especially the blues lol. Great music here Jack keep em comin.
