Description:
Subtitled, "Shaft Goes To Iraq". This was a Dance/Trance/Drum n Bass/Breakbeat exploration. I think I'm getting the hang of this GarageBand thang. I can't wait to use my keyboard with it.

My request is my treat... &mdash 01/18/06 - 03:52:01 PM
Hah! that was fun. Nice job poodyG LOL - Shaft in Iraq... - They're
gettn' the shaft alright... Man haven't heard that name in a long time.

This has some sweet groovn' moments in it. Quite the production. I can
tell that alot of work went into it. I like the way it carried it's way
through; nice structure. A very nice job mister pg. Thanks for inviting
me to the party. Dion

Thanks for checking it out. I'm now listening to "All Of It". Great horns.
I'm actually thinking of getting the MOTU Symphonic synth at some
point.

All the best!

A bit proggie too! &mdash 01/18/06 - 05:41:23 PM
Bits of this wouldn't sound out of place on a prog or '70s style jazz fusion
track - good fun lots of nice sounds and riffs agoing on here. There's just
something a bit muffled with the percussion at the start but other than
that I enjoyed this a lot.

That's interesting. Well, Prog Rock is definitely an influence. I wanted the
opening percussion to have a more decidedly different sound. If I could
automate equalization in GarageBand, I'd have done a filter sweep à la
The Chemical Brothers.

Thanks so much for the feedback. I'm really digging this community
thing.

This is very well done &mdash 01/18/06 - 05:55:30 PM
There are so many interesting and compelling things going on in this
piece that even though trance is not one of my favorite genres, I am really
enjoying this listen.

You're obviously very skilled at arrangement. I look forward to hearing
more of your music.

Welcome to MacJams, Phil. Very glad to have you in the community.

Wow, thanks. It's funny, I'm not really sure if this is purely trance. The
recursive, echoey textures would probably get it in the door, but there's
a little funk in it as well. It's coming from so many different directions
thatjust we'll have to call it my musical multiracial child. Were there a
genre named, "Defies Description", I'd probably have put it there.

I was listening to "A Different View" earlier today. Really nice. I'm going
to e-mail it to a friend who likes this style. He's a music theory teacher
and loves that open chord piano style. Who knows? Perhaps he'll become
a MacJams member. :-)

Thanks for checking out the song and for the positive comments. It's
only been a few days, but this is a great outlet!

great composition!! &mdash 01/21/06 - 07:34:59 AM
Amazing that you did all this with GB loops! How???? i sure have a lot to
learn... This is amazingly good. I think the subtitle should be the title-
it's perfect.

great composition!! &mdash 01/22/06 - 08:36:16 PM
Lots of effects and a bit of tweaking the MIDI note data. I can't take every
loop verbatim. I also have a sound effects CD, which is where the
"natural" sounds come from. After doing "What I Did On My Winter
Vacation", I realized that I need to combine these songs into something
that I can call my own.

What I do like about the loops is that I can quickly create something and
at the end of the day, have a finished piece. I still have to come to terms
with the fact that I'm cutting and pasting. But hey, it's really about the
result, right?

Thanks for listening.

Nice... &mdash 01/28/06 - 11:45:59 PM
I have always liked that wiggly loop. Good sense of transitions,
layering, effects and overall composition here. I was bouncing
along...

Thanks. It's interesting composing with loops. What's nice about
composing this way is that I can focus more on production. The side
effect is that people are already familiar with the elements of the
composition. Given the short period of time I have these days for
recreation, it works for now.

The main thing is that it was fun creating it.

Thanks for listening.

A bit of everything &mdash 02/09/06 - 05:42:09 AM
Very orriginal track. Could use some stronger samples. Like that lead, very creative.

complex &mdash 11/28/06 - 08:46:42 PM
perhaps not to most at first blush, but there seems to be some wonderful pads and syncopated nuances that pepper the whole track. Spiraling, rythyms and textures. Very cool

Love the synths &mdash 08/05/07 - 07:03:00 AM
This is a good breakbeat trance track, it is one of those tracks that you can relax to or dance to. The synths do give it an almost middle east flavour. Very good, well done.
