In a Wax Museum after hours... Is how I first described this piece when listening to a preview of it. Shadows, mystery, maybe a little uncertainty. Beautiful You and Mysti work well together, Tom. If this is the soundtrack to a mental motion picture of the natual beauty of, say, the location of the photo above, it worked well. As calming as the wind rustling the leaves, as enthralling as watching the water wind its way through a rocky stream. Mysti's vocalizations seem as if they are simply an organic component. I hope this is going to be part of a larger work. Even if it isn't, it will stand wonderfully on it's own. Enjoyed it, as always. Check out my latest song called Emanation 1

Beautiful Thanks Joseph. I wish I could say that I was 'painting' a certain picture here, but one reason the piece is titled "A New Unknown" is because I had no idea where it was going, and so used "unknown 3/4" as a working title. A later version became a "new" unknown. Boring, I know. The photo of the St. Vrain seemed to fit after the piece was finished. I see pictures too. Very nice. It seems like a soundtrack to a wordless short movie. Sounds really cool; nice addition of the vocals Mysti. I liked those sitar and erhu sounds. I see I had difficulty choosing a genre for this one. It seemed a little trippy for Classical. I guess it could be New Age? I chose Cinematic, although there is no film to go along with it. Okay So, you might be a genius and you might have done wonderful things with those new instruments (I think they put the African marimba in just for you) and you may have mixed Mysti's lovely vocal in so organically it seems to sprout from the bed of the music... You may have done all those things, but I'm stubbornly holding out for lyrics. I don't care how many ponchos you offer me to go away. Give me the words of Tom Atwood or I'm going to spray your front lawn with RoundUp® and maybe any garden gnomes you might have around the property. That's right! I've stooped to menacing statuary. Stop me before I kill again! (Um, I mean to say, please would you consider giving us a song with lyrics soon, since we haven't had a new one since last year) Lovely work Tom and Mysti. I'll be interested to see if you develop it into a larger piece, but I do think this is quite beautiful as its own song. Okay You are a stern task-mistress, ledebutant. But the garden gnomes are safe. I brought them in for the holidays to make room for the wiry lighted reindeer, cone-shaped Christmas trees and inflatable Santa globe in the front yard. I am concerned, however, that you may do some other damage, and have asked Curry to park his squad car in the street in front of our home (the squad car with the Swedish lights). So, keep your distance. As for a song with words, one may be coming. I don't know yet. Your threats, well-intended, probably won't speed things up. The Atwood I love most You've written a wonderful piece, and orchestrated in a notable way. It's strange but precious the appearance just in the end of the two exotic instruments, which gives the piece a remarkable descriptive mood. I'm thinking of the Symphony No.2 for String Orchestra & Trumpet by Honegger, with the trumpet coming out only shortly before the very finale of the symphony. I love how every voice here has its right importance, thus acquiring value, but even if your piece is clearly powerful with images, I don't know if I feel it as cinematic. Maybe more as a contemplation, a music generated by an ambient. Lovely Mysti vocals, they blend perfectly and add a human (and noble, poetic, non generic) touch to the musical landscape. Beautiful composition Early morning - sun rising through mist on a street somewhere in (my conception of) middle America perhaps. I don't get a rural scene from this, but a "calm before the storm" feeling. Wonderful composition and performance - so clear and thorough in pre-thought, so well constructed and so beautiful in the experience. I'll have some of what Jim's having. Yes To me this is your best jampack-based piece so far Tom! It has a beautiful mood all the way through. Then at that grand passage when Mystified comes in, it is like a door is opening to something. I could hear the tune leveling up there and to open a next section filled with all sorts of whirling mystified vocals. Sounds like this was a scetch with just the intro ... For my sake you could easily lift off the zitar. It is just a matter of personal taste, but I will like the final version (guess there is more to come?) considearbly more if you do! (Seldom have strong opinions of other peoples pieces, but these sounds make me nevous, (maybe I experienced too much of the 60:ies and 70:ies)). Took me forever... ...to get this to play...and I'm pretty sure the trouble was on my end... But now I'm glad I got to it. You have a great sense of instrumental timbre, and you're one of the guys in this world who can 'do' dissonance without making it sound like an 'Orchestration 101: Becoming Sophisticated' assignment. Your slips in and out of tonicity and blends of unusual pitches or tones are always organic, natural, even sounding 'right' or inevitable even as they seem to step just south of expectations... I'll do what I rarely do and disagree with my friend Curry: I like what I perceive to be an unusual, orchestral setting of the sitar, played less jangly-twangly than in raga. I also liked the Sixties. What can ya do? I really like the opening of this, and I, too, really like how Mysti's vocals seem to rise out of the streambed towards the end. As others have written, the World Music JamPack seems pretty awesome... I like what you do, Tom, and am impressed by it. Ed Check out my latest song called Uno/I Like The Way... Make a movie now. You keep your textures light, which I like, and you paint pictures with your music. You need to start making movies that follow your scores! The only part I wasn't crazy about was towards the end when the female singing voice came in. Hard to explain why, exactly, but I found it distracting. Do you have any thing of this type that is long (like ten minutes or longer)? I think you have the chops to sustain the listener's interest for much longer periods. Good work. Wonderful flow The intro to this piece is like cruising along through darkness and then slowly emerging into glorious shafts of light through trees. The slow crescendo is a very tasty entry into this world. Even without the picture of the river, I got the sense of trickling water, burbling currents and the splashing upon rocks, through reeds. Mysti's subtle notes towards the end are a nice touch. You've got a delicate way with woodwinds and I love you "pass the changes" around. Very sweet indeed! Check out my latest song called Don't You
