Description:
A rework of a previous submission, Not Close Enough. This tune will not be finished until it has been played for real. As it stands, this track is all original midi composition in GB.

Loud, fast and noisy - I still haven't got the metal out of my system it seems. Something to pound away the stress. I've inserted a Middle Eastern lick in the bridge just for fun (pretentious). I remember when guitarists in the 90s got all scale happy and Egyptian sounding riffs were all the rage (well, for 20 minutes or so anyway).

I keep writing songs like this because Metallica hasn't been cool for over a decade.

the MIDI - great job, you really coaxed a nice piece out of software instruments - the dynamics are highly effective, the rhythm change-ups are sexy, and the break is hypnotic - love the double-bass rolls! This song is gonna own live, awesome job!

Reminds me of a song from one of the Gumby movies where Gumby's band is totally shredding and Low buckle does the splits and prickle breaks glass with his drum solo! Cool song! It's a keeper! Could also be a soundtrack for a video game! Has a cool Egyptian feel too which is cool!

Nice one Mr C! &mdash 01/18/06 - 01:05:22 PM
This certainly rocks - takes me back - you have really nailed the whole
instrumental thing here. Would like to hear this done live - would also
like to hear it with a vocal in there battling for air against the
instrumentation. Nice one Mr C!

and midi just don't go together very well, but this is still good considering
the sounds used to create it. The bass and the drums sound decent though. Not too fond of the rest of the sounds but hey what do I know
I'm no expect when it comes to midi metal.

Wow... &mdash 01/18/06 - 02:02:32 PM
Vote bombed by a guy with no songs and one forum post.

Yeah, I get that my use of midi sounds rather than real instruments
makes for a less impactful experience. The thing is, I think I can push
midi pretty far. It bothers me that you dismissed my work as a game
soundtrack when, in reality, if a band was playing this same song, it
would be like a punch in the face.

Your post really makes me appreciate guys like dreadmon and jiguma
who can listen with a creative ear. You say cheesy I say nostalgic. I
grew up wrecking my body in mosh pits listening to the grand daddies
of the metal genre. If you can't hear this tune as it would be with real
instruments then you probably just don't get it.

After all, the difference between a video game soundtrack and the
soundtrack to a Vin DIesel movie is a matter of production.

Dude &mdash 01/18/06 - 08:20:49 PM
I always check the list for Heavy metal first. Just had to drop in and
say, "It moves." MIdi or not. My first impression was something from
Gold Earring. A way backer i know but.... ah..... they did skank before
the word was made. I dug the Marrocken-n-roll riff. How about a
piece around the interlude with some traditional beats intergrated.
Check out Shakirra's, Ojo's Asia song for a refference.

Chao....... amigo

I can hear it &mdash 01/19/06 - 06:04:12 AM
with real guitars, drums etc. And I like what I hear.... this would translate
into a powerful metal song, IMO. As it stands now it works for me as a
prog rock piece. Sorry for the liquid sunshine- but I can hear a ton of
potential in this and think it's a damn cool song, midi or not.

Now as far as the comment about this working as a game soundtrack
goes- I wouldn't take this negatively because I think it would be a pretty
damn cool game track. Much better than a lot of the lame crap I've heard
in the past. So as far as I'm concerned, it's more a testament to the overall
quality of the song that it could have so much versatility.

No problem... not the first time that's ever happened and I'm sure it won't be the last. For some reason I've never understood I've had a lot of folks also refer to me as Matt. Strange, huh?

a piece of prog-metal! love it! it would be unreal to hear live!
the changes are masterful! the midi does lend itself to a really aggressive game, but that's not bad. i agree with your earlier post... you have to hear it for it's composition. plus, i like ti A LOT the way it is. A kick in the teeth!!!
I have an old "down-right-old-school-metal" tune that, if I ever get a chance to record, I'd love to send to you to "deCipher" for me... interested?

A lot of potential. &mdash 06/01/07 - 10:01:52 PM
This is well-composed with some very cool melodies and heavy grooves. Sure it doesn't sound "real", but it won't sound real whenever I finally get around to writing a string quartet with GarageBand instruments.
