Description:
While watching the new Batman movie yesterday evening, I was inspired to see how much juice I would get out of Garageband's JamPack 4. So this is a quick draft of a future soundtrack. It was late evening when I started, so it's far from finished, but when I get a chance to do something with it I will update the file. Until then, this one's open for comments!

PS. I hope it's allright to post unfinished projects. I'm a newbie here!

Dark streets, is anyone peering out of the shadows, I'm scared... &mdash 01/18/06 - 10:23:46 AM
I can easily imagine this being the theme of a Batman movie, it's bursting
with a brooding atmosphere - very well put together, great use of the
various parts of the 'orchestra' and not at all bad for an evening's work!

KK

PS - It's fine posting unfinished stuff - it's a good way to get feedback
(particularly if you do intend to finish!

Whooo! &mdash 01/18/06 - 10:33:14 AM
This is really good stuff - before I even read your notes, I was hearing "Batman" in this. You've really captured the mood and the underlying tension - nice little major glimpses in the dark shadows here and there. And the rise and fall of the instruments, especially the horns, is superb. Wow, Jam Pack sounds killer in your hands. This is really a wonderful piece - thanks for sharing it!

tension &mdash 01/18/06 - 11:21:02 AM
good flowing increase of tension, nice use of low brass and occasional
brightness of strings, constant percussive pulsing keeps one on the edge
of the seat... typical movie-soundtrack-ear-candy. I hope you do work
on this more, and I personally would like to hear, as Verdi put it, a "tune
we can hum", something memorable repeated through this, insttead of
just a rumbling soundscape. That's just my thought, though.
ttfn,
Drakonis

Thanks for your opinion!! I agree, it would be nice to have a theme...hopefully soon I'll have some time to work on that.

Zimmer-y &mdash 01/21/06 - 04:37:55 AM
Very Batman-ish, very cool. The pulsing strings really give this an edge.
I agree with drakonis that a little theme line on top of this all would really
spice things up.

Another thing, I didn't know Jam Pack could sound so real... you really got
some great sounds out of that thing.

Very nice work!

Very beautiful &mdash 01/22/06 - 10:11:11 AM
A very beautiful piece. I know nothing of Batman movies, but if the music
holds a class like this I conclude these movies must be worthwhile
hearing!

Downloaded, and I would be very happy if you post more ...

PS. Perfectly ok to post unfinished projects! Many use MacJams to get
early feedback.

Very good stuff! I have JamPack4, but have not innstalled it yet... it takes so much disk space. But you have covinced me, I must have it, those strings sound really great.

Definitely! The new concert piano alone is worth the installation. I am looking forward to a post from you using the new instruments!!

Great job on the rhythmic, echoing strings...how did you get that effect?
Keyboard? Echo?

This is really cool...I love the shifts in the deep bass lines... Nice piece...I can't
get enough of it.

I guess what I am trying to ask is how you got the pulsing strings?

dramatic! &mdash 01/25/06 - 07:14:47 AM
Thanks Rick! The pulsating strings are "staccato strings" with a soft attack, played in at a slower speed (so my fingers wouldn't break!). I usually play with the settings until I feel the strings sound as real as they can...

Nice...thanks. I love Jam Pack 4, but I am no composer. I am trying to learn as
much as possible from those much more accomplished! Thanks for sharing!

I think you may have a career. &mdash 02/11/06 - 10:22:36 PM
You've captured a good feel for the last Batman, and brought your own
sense to it. Keep going!

That is really something for a few hours work. I can't wait to hear the
finished product. You have skills my friend! I feel the emotion in this piece
from the start and it never stops. Can you say Goose Bumps!!!

A Dark Rose Blooming in the Night. &mdash 07/03/06 - 09:27:59 AM
Loved the low stringed undertone and the way this piece slowly unfolds
like a dark rose blooming in the night. Very effective. Don%u2019t think the fade
out quite works. It%u2019s a bit too quick for me. You might conceder trying to
resolve the theme instead. Very cinematic and I enjoyed it very much.

This is unbelievable &mdash 09/05/06 - 04:34:09 PM
I can't beleive how elaborate this track is. There are so many things
happening at once-and in perfect harmony! I totally heard Batman in this.
Personally, I thought this was as good as some of the stuff in Batman
Begins. Fantastic.
