Keywords:
Bluegrass (22)acoustic fiddle (1)solo fiddle (1)solo violin (1)whisky (4)Komrade K (21)Old Timey (2)fiddle (25)violin (61)mud (1)medway (1)George Bush (6)
Description:
Two bluegrass influenced tunes which I usually play coupled with tunes by other people but which I brought together here - largely to test out my new mic. Actually this is the first time I've managed to record my acoustic fiddle on GB.

The first tune I composed last year and it's in honour of the River Medway which is tidal for much of its length and very very muddy. The second tune I composed about 15 years ago and the George referred to in the title is father to 'Dubya'...

Hardware:
German violin (about 130 years old), iMac G5 (old style - bah!), M-Audio Luna mic, Behringer Mic200 pre-amp, eMagic a62 midi.

Software:
GB2

Great tone, great tune &mdash 01/19/06 - 10:13:51 AM
Lots of fun and energy! It sounds cleanly recorded... not sure if the mix is
a little hot in the high midrange, maybe others can add their opinion.
Very nice acoustic sound and playfully played! I can't wait to hear more of
this from you, congrats on the new Mic!

Drakonis

Many thanks for your feedback Drak. The EQ I was using wasn't that subtle -
but overall I was fairly happy with the sound (actually better than I expected!)

Great traditional fiddle feel...I guess the 130 year old violin helps? I am
suprised Billy Childish hasn't snatched you to play with him as part of the
'Medway scene'... very accomplished. I was almost tempted to dance..but
my fatigued limbs have let me down again!
Nice one
Steve

Well you see I live in Whistable, not Medway - BC only comes here on Sundays to
paint. We'll have to find a way to put a spring back in your (dance) step!

Listening as I write &mdash 01/20/06 - 12:06:51 AM
SO far - bloody marvellous - instant reaction from me is 11 out of 10 - but then I'm a crazy folky hobo.Best part is I can just about hear your foot tappin and its that sense of rhythm makes my foot start tappin.I could easily get arrested for dancing to this! LOVED IT!! MORE! MORE! * me clapping after everyone else has finished *

And the mic is making you sound really beautiful too... Much fun. Your
double-stopping on George's eviciton notice is fantastic.

no mistakes there and the new rig sounds awesome. you may want to
think about collabing with some people in the the electronica genre - i
think that fiddle may sound cool over a composed synth track.

Why thank you! I'm certainly up for more of that type of collab - check out
Dance of the Jealous Pagan and Meen Teem (Fiddler on
the Hoof Mix) which are listed on my profile page - I guess these tracks are
kinda heading in that direction already.

You get a terrific sound out of the antiqish instrument. Like tunes like
this and how they can bring you to a certain time period.

Thanks for sharing!!!!

Makes me wish I had a mint julep and had had the patience to
learn fretless instruments.

I've never had a Mint Julep - maybe I should in order to achieve a more authentic
sound!

Great fun! Great violin playing. I really enjoy your style Mr. K. I can almost here the bango, guitarI, stand-up bass and harmonica. have a similar old German violin. This inspires me to learn how to play it. Great tune!

Great! &mdash 01/26/06 - 07:00:35 PM
Hey, this is great. Real honest to God music not generated by a
computer! I'm loving the artists on MacJams like you and The Tiler who
are using new technology but keeping it old school. I voted 8s and 9s.
I'm glad I dropped by to hear your playing.

Can't say I'm always old school (but I like to get in touch with it frequently -
good for the spirit...) However, many thanks for your comment (and particularly
the company you put me in!!!)

Was the ominous "and that aint all" at the end a fore warning of bush's to come?

If I'm ever in Pennsylvania - I'll look you up and we can try out one of those

Thanx MunichG - glad you liked it. I'm more than happy to do a collab
(although these things tend to take a bit of time with me...)
