Description:
One of my all-time favourite songs and what a privilege it is to do a version with the guy who wrote it.
Ever since the first time I heard Anymore, more than a year ago, it has become a regular part of my live repetoire, regardless of venue or band makeup.
And yes T, I think this one IS a country song.
snowdragon: 6- and 12-string acoustic guitars, bass, backing vocals, arrangement
rcandrews: lead vocal and final mix
Lyrics:
Anymore
Mama was a ball buster daddy was a crop duster
Sista hopped a train lookin fo 'er lackluster
last time she saw it it was fadin in the rain
I'm a six string hack walkin a rail road track
One stroke closer to a heart attack
Anymore these days are strange
Anymore i'm not sure what im doin or why im here for
Feelin like n old soul beat down like a hobo
Toolin a long tryin to make it through tomorrow
Reelin from the years in the cold
Havin lots of fun head toward the sun
I ain't foolin no one cryin through the sorrow
Healin takes time n it's slow
Anymore i'm not sure what im doin or why im here for
Anymore i'm not sure what im doin or why im here for

terrific &mdash 01/21/06 - 01:53:22 PM
you guys, the RC and the snow backup vocals is really ausome.
RC, gotta say this vocal stuff your doing here out to be on world wide
country radio of the highest kind. The backround really blend in quite
nicely. I wish I could just snap my fingers and make the head people in
Nashville scene wake up and smell the pleasant RC and snow musical
talent. But I am just a person like yourselves just trying to he heard.
All I can say is there really is a bunch of special stuff in this tune!!!!

Beautiful song. SD's strings and RC's voice make for a wonderfully soulful
mix. Hopeful and sorrowfull. Just awesome all the way around. [ Reply to This ]

Been waitin' for this one &mdash 01/21/06 - 04:06:10 PM
to resurface. One of Rob's best songs- hands down. Love the pace and
the mix. Background vocals do a nice job bringing out the passion and
desperation in RC's voice.
So easy to understand why you would want to play this song, Snow. I
think I'll learn how to play it myself. Damn fine job, guys! [ Reply to This ]

Just had a thought Stump, when you do get the words down, let's sit out on
the back deck at the roadhouse some sunny afternoon and jam with it.

bringing in some perfect harmonies on the backing, this says Hit all over..
Be good to hear you two do more together.
Great collab you two...

Nice song to have in the bag when going camping. Or it might do as well in a local pub with people having a good time singing and enjoying life.
I really like the feel of this song. You sound great together.
well done!

Funny you should mention the pub thing Thoddi. When I play this tune with a
full electric band, we usually save it for the Midnight Cuddle-Up.
But when I play acoustic solo, it's usually in the first set as it almost always
generates a favourable audience response and sets a good mood for the rest
of the evening.
thanks bro

This one has really grown on me since RC demoed it to me more than a
month ago. I think the mixing and guitar break issues I cited have been
pretty well cleaned up. High marks on this. It sounds very pro and
wonderfully evocative. [ Reply to This ]

Cracking song &mdash 01/25/06 - 10:09:02 AM
Really enjoyed listening to this, never listened to RC before - gritty,
world-weary yet impassioned lead vocal - ya made ya mark on me
here!
Corking tune and fine playing - second time through it really struck me
how well the backing vocals work.
If I could be permitted a crit - I think the mix could be a little sharper -
there's a mussiness at the lower mid-range which drags the song
slightly.
T'other than that - a cracker. Top!

Cracking song &mdash 02/01/06 - 07:38:43 AM
ty KK, and of course you're "permitted a crit"
The GB and aiff files actually are a tad crisper but not a whole lot. However,
the "colour" of the .mp3 format is something that we all should address from
time to time.
Personally tho, I've never been drawn to acoustically "perfect" sounds (with
the exception of the stuff tiler produces, which is an incredible experience).
An analogy in the visual arts might be that I've always been more into
abstract expressionism (particularly Mark Rothko) than photo realism. I'm
always leary of things that sound too crisp, fearing that it's a ploy to get me
to buy something, or a trick to mask flaws in lyricism or musicianship.
One of the things I've always liked about Rob's songs and vox is that I never
get the feeling I'm being manipulated. It always feels "real" to me.
thanks again

Can relate to your comment about Abstract Expressionism - trying to get things
absolutely bang on can strangle the spark and invention in a take that might not
be 'perfect'.
Visual arts influence my approach to music too and without wishing to over
intellectualise I'm finding the relationship between music's emotional and
symbolic aspects really exciting right now.
