Great guitar playing - also, I liked the slow , draggy (druggy) feel to the song - like 'A Forest' on valium.

Vox are a little flat though ...

Thanks! The pace is deliberate as I wanted kind of a funereal feel to it given that
some wiseguy politician has just wasted the world.

Well performed and composed song. You sure know how to treat that guitar.

Ahhh I remember.. its love, love, love. And I love this one, so it will end up in my box of favourites!

Post the lyrics! &mdash 02/01/06 - 05:48:11 PM
Very Alan Parsons, into the 21st century. Sweet guitar work on this track! The imagery is compelling and the atmosphere suits the forward-looking nature of the story. It seems to me that the drums and other instruments could come up in the mix a bit, as they are faint compared to the guitar, which is rockin'!

thank you for this. I think you have an amazing imagination. I like the
way you discover your music. It's free and wild and borderless. You
are a wild and crazy, macjammer. your fan, kelli

I like this sort of emotive guitar screaming. It's pretty effective in
communicating your feelings. The song is quite all right too.

Just some comments about the production: the drums seems to go in and
out. It's much louder and brighter on the breaks. And it sounds very thin
during the synth and vocal passages. Weird. 2: I'm not sure that I care
much for that lead synth, but let's consider that a matter of taste. 3: Your
bass part is a bit timid. Did you play it yourself?

I appreciate the critique and you're definitely right about the bass. It wasn't long
after this that I went out to get a real bass because I was so tired of doing
pseudo-bass lines on the keyboard. I haven't had much time to play it but I
know already that I'll never use the keys as a bass again!

By the way, it's an Ibanez GSR-100 and I'm well satisfied with the value.

About keyboard bass: in a previous incarnation I played the bass on <a

keyboarded.... Enjoy.

Strong guitar solos... &mdash 04/15/06 - 03:59:34 PM
The guitar solo section is definitely the strength of this song. The
backing instruments are strong but leave room, the drums are dynamic
without getting in the way, no instruments are competing, and your
playing is very powerful. The solo sections really work.

The drums seem to go into a different dimension after the solo where
the square-wave synth line enters, which I think hurts your rhythm
section. I agree that the part should change, but the dynamic level
change is too severe to my ears.

It's hard for you to match your strength as a guitarist with your
strength as a vocalist. I would recommend you write another killer
piece like this and get someone to sing it, so your strength and that of
the vocalist both contribute to the power of the song.

I would have gone with a loop with the snare hitting on 2 & 4 for the
drums on the last solo section, maybe starting about halfway through,
to give it the highest dynamic level of all your solos; used a stronger
rhythm for the rhythm guitar part as the solo progresses; and held the
last chord out much longer. All these would have blasted this strong
song off to another level. As it is, it's very strong, very powerful.

Thanks very much for the critique. There's a lot of food for thought in it and I'll definitely keep it in mind. Thanks again.

guitar undermines immediate affinities &mdash 04/24/06 - 11:58:48 PM
how about the crimean war?

at first i heard the composition informed by legendary pink dots and a
touch of coil but soon a distinct voice took over. i love the guitar but
wouldn't mind it pulled back ever so slightly.

Powerful &mdash 05/04/06 - 06:10:26 PM
Good use of tension notes here; it creates a sense of movement and dynamic. Great guitar tone and playing, and the rhythm held tight. I agree with Futz regarding the emphasis on 2 and 4. The drums kept switching to a 2-4 rhythm as part of the drum fill, and it gave the piece a stop-and-go feel. That's not to say it was bad, but rather utilizing that trick once, and then keeping with it, surely would take this piece to the next level. All in all I thought it was a strong and powerful piece. Thanks for posting.
