Keywords:
western (20) ()
Description:
Of the two kinds of music , this is the western kind. I think.

Lyrics:
take the eldorado to the open road
a ballerina will be dancing on a pole
if you consider what i say you wouldn’t
run away and chase your bag of gold

you say its oregon or bust
be careful who you trust
there’s danger in the dust

its dog eat dog where you’re going now
there won’t be any time for polishing your plow
wide open space and dry red wood
and bath tubs full of poison way out in the hoods

you better watch for flying lead and
remember what i said
there’s danger in the dust

watch out for cactus pete
keep your back to the wall
he has the sharpest of tongues
you know he’s a creep
he’s a tweak

and you smile and think that i jest
but there’s a dire consequence for living in the west
its so hard to be good when there are
bath tubs full of poison way out in the hoods

.......theres’s danger in the dust

I like this style. Kind of early Dire Straits. Listened a couple of times and I liked it even better the second time. A little rough around the edges but the overall mood was satisfying.

Perfect tone on the mexi-tele. I'd sharpen up the acoustic a little. Sounds like you've got chorus effect on the acoustic and a flange effect on the vox. I'd choose to keep the voice effect and either take the effect off the acoustic or cut it back some. Too much swirling going on IMO. While we're on the voice, it's mixed a little low in spots. It's a good voice for the song but without the written lyric I wouldn't know what you were saying in some places.

Good tune, keep writing

Thanks for your kind and constructive words. However, I couldn't apply your
advice because, whatever I do to the vox I do to the acoustic guitar, they are on
the same mono track. I have a devil of a time doing it any other way. Thanks
again for the comments.

two suggestions: the guitars seems to dominate this one and that's OK
if it's what you wanted but I would have liked to hear a little more bass
and drums in the mix.

the verse about cactus pete isn't quite up to the writing standards of
the rest of the tune. maybe it's just that I have no idea what the hell a
"tweak" is.

Overall tho, a worthwhile experience.

Snowdragon, Thanks much for stopping by. "Tweak" is short for tweaker, which
is a methanphetamine addict. It is the dust to which I am refering. Its cooked
up in bath tubs accross the seedier parts of the nation. I wanted the meaning
to be slightly veiled, but since you where curious...... Thanks again for the kind
words and mixing advice which I sorely need. Adios

I agree with the observation that this song has a Dire Straits kind of
feel and sound to it, and that is a major compliment as that band is
one of my favorites of all time. The guitar is particularly striking and
has a sentimental tone to it, kinda folksy-western. I imagine your
voice can shine a lot better, though, with a more pro microphone.
Although the timbre and tone of the voice is very good, the quality with
which it was recorded kind of takes away a little bit of its luster.
Altogether, a great song with great melody, lyrics and instrumentals
always gets my vote.

Inspite of the ratings debate that raged a few days ago and having lost
my faith in it, I will venture to give this song an 8.5 rating. I'm looking
forward to an even more polished version of it, which shall very well
merit 9s and 10s.

Thanks Leon, I appreciate your words, However you know there doesn't exist in
this world a microphone that can fix that vocal. And you know that old axiom
about certain things that just can't be polished? Seriously I appreciate the
comments. Regards.

Its funny how it is my lowest rated song and also my most downloaded by a mile. I guess Love and hate are not really opposite. Indifference is the opposite of love. Thanks for takin the time and effort. Regards

i'm loving this a lot. you got a way with this type of music. and i think the production values fit the mood of the song; in other words i find it totally appropriate and i think it's a part of the charm. i like how your stuff takes all the stuff that was good about country, and drags it down into the gutter for a fresh take. keep doing whatever it is you're doing, and if you ever want to collaborate on something, i'd be thrilled.

Well &mdash 05/21/07 - 12:35:05 PM
Im flattered at the collab offer and a little suprised that some one with your impecible artistic judgement would suggest it, but heck yea I'd be honored to ride your coat tails on a song or two. I'll have to figure out file sharing I'm kind of a lame brain at that stuff. going on vacation soon I'll drop you a note latter.
Regards
