My mouth hangs open. MissC, you always have a way of making songs
that have a kind of bittersweetness to them, but this is more sweet than
any yet. You and Ben did an excellent job. The panning in the beginning is
a bit startling, but good.
The artwork is eerily stark and beautiful - but perfect. Listening first
without looking brings about more of a gold color to my mind, but I'm
silly that way. ;) [ Reply to This ]

Miss Chaos and Ben, this song is so moving...Now that i hear the entirety

I listened to this piece having read all the comments about it first. I'm glad that I did as the comments brought out the ideas behind the piece, its structure and tones.
It is a beautifully produced and mixed piece that the more I listened, the more I wanted the mix to carry on and on. To me the piece could have gone anywhere and I for one was good for the ride.
My request is simple.....please do more (lots).

Thanks for your comment, rollo. I asked santa for a symphony orchestra, but
alas, I am still without one. :) Really though, I know what you mean. That's
what's so frustrating about composing like this. And from what I've heard, Jam
Pack 4's instruments don't really sound too great either. I played in a symphony
for many years and I have a feel for what they should sound like. I'll look around
for some more realistic sounding timbres. Thanks again!

Very Beautiful! &mdash 01/28/06 - 11:53:34 AM
What a wonderful soundtrack! The melodies and chords are magical! I especially like the transitions between the themes. Very creativly done. The percussion seems to be a little bit loud at times, some reverb would soften that up. Have you tried playing with the "attack" and "release" for the string settings? This would help making them sound more natural and less synthetic. Obviously this is only my opinion. I also liked the artwork, by the way!
Overall this is a magical piece of music! Thanks for sharing.

By the way...you can modify any instrument like that, I just got a classic flute to sound more like a Japanese flute by changing the settings. In case you are interested, check out the soundtrack I have just posted. All instruments are software instruments, modified and calibrated in that way. Brilliant! &mdash 01/29/06 - 06:28:16 AM
This piece absolutely soars. Where to start? The fluidity with which so many elements were woven together into a single coherent and beautiful tapestry of sound amazed me. The thematic work throughout was compositional greatness to put it lightly. Your ability to work with sonic dynamics as well as tonal is quite impressive as well- this song ebbed like the tide- sometimes gentle, sometimes building to a powerful crescendo, all in all technical brilliance and an absolute joy to listen to. I am humbled indeed.

Hey MC -
Long time no talk - I have been waiting since November for another release. I really like what you have done here. We should put a chillout soundtrack together - this one would fit nicely in the #3 or #7 track (strong songs always seem to be #3 or #7 for some reason, don't they?) This is a beautiful song - and the mix is very nice. I like the "construction" of this song - there's a very logical dynamic that is very pleasing to the ear. I would love to hear rain, birds chirping, or some other natural texture mixed in.

Hmmm.... &mdash 01/30/06 - 03:22:21 PM
somewhat similar in parts to the great "Momma Cries" I think, and I think
this is a very nice piece, flows nicely from section to section, and it does
have a more upbeat soaring quality to it than many of your others (that's
good and bad). BUT, I must admit, this seems not to be quite as polished
as some of your others, not quite as much emotional punch (but I'm
spoiled with some of the other things you've done.) The strings in this
sometimes have a sloshing-back-and-forth part (repeated almost-
octave-jump) that's too artificial sounding, and there's a very loud pulsed
bass that is a little loud in some spots... but I like the builds and swells,
and definitely love the connotation of the title and image.

Hey, I thought I was supposed to be my own worst critic. ;) I read your
comment carefully. I suppose you're right. The more spontaneously I write and
compose, the better they turn out. I hashed over this one for such a long time. It
was a thorn for a few months. I'm going back to the drawing board, musically
speaking, for awhile. I need to do some more listening and taking notes before
attempting something new. New directions, perhaps. We'll see what the music
gods bestow upon me when they're good and ready. :)

Why did this make me sad... &mdash 02/01/06 - 05:51:15 PM
I got the phat chills... This is the you that I'm glad to get to know
better. MissU... - This is very dramatic w/ lots of REALLY warm, sad
and pensive feelings. I so wish that I could put music together in this
way. I like the way that this carries you through the many ebbs and
flow of some fairly deep emotions. This makes for quite the hunky
dynamics - I get bored w/ music quite easily and if it's not rattling my
cage, I like it when it's trying to pond the walls out... This piece rattled
my cage, and in a good way. Obviously I like what you. I even like what
you
might do... : ) , (Now you know I had to work this in some how) if not,
just the thought of it. I know, I know...
I'm not exactly clear what Audiologic's hand has played in this, but I
am clear that the end product is deserving of more than one bow.
Congratulations to the both of you. This music is another fine example
of why I love this place.
S, it is really good to know that you are still making time to produce
music for YOURSELF - You had mentioned that you were having a bit of
creative dry spell for awhile, and hearing this makes me happy for you,
albeit, it is through some pretty fat and sad tears that I do hear you... I
hope that you continue to look up and that you do this regardless of
the space from which you choose to peer into your soul... I am sending

Smooth plains of the Serengeti &mdash 02/01/06 - 06:20:35 PM
Your love and labor show in this piece - it's a rich and rewarding trip that takes its time to breathe and leap, love the transitions and the surging of the strings. There's some very subtle background work that has a nice effect, the rolling thunder and such. Lovely piano and the minor change that comes in about a third of the way through is a wonderful change-up. I very much enjoyed the journey! [ Reply to This ]

Thank you, Scott! MacJams is very lucky to have you around here.
No, I usually don't have anything specific in mind when I begin to concept a
song. But what I do is so spontaneous and gut-driven; I'm always the first
person to say that I really have no clue what I'm doing, technically speaking. I
play what sounds right, ambiguous as that may be. :-) My musical knownledge
and training is classical, though I was a kid of 80's pop synth and listened to a
lot of new wave music and always studied film scores very closely. I'm not sure
how much of that has permeated what I write now though. to me, it's a
mysterious thing. :-) Thanks!
