Description:
this is the third song of three melodies that i recorded this fall. i have just been waitinf for words to arrive. they pretty much wrote themselves over the past month. thank goodness! now i can write more music
Lyrics:
look at me Imo taking the bus
just one car for the to of us
moneys tight you are staying at home
babies great when he's not alone
i take a book to read on the ride
or i photograph with a camera that i hide from the others
i would do anything to keep us floating high
i really enjoy the challenge of life on the fly
no one alone should carry the weight
got a lot to do i will try not to be late
six o'clock in the afternoon
the sun goes down way too soon
in the winter
i board the bus with my nappy sack
all the same people on the way back
its so funny
i listen to what they say
eves dropping just looking away
i would do anything to keep us floating high
i really enjoy the challenge of life on the fly
no one alone should carry the weight
got a lot to do i will try not to be late
doesn't take long before the bus becomes quiet
you would'nt believe how many people fall asleep
its such a riot
others read some just stare
two guys kissing with their hand in their hair
girls from the private school
with their little plaid skirts
chatting me up
practicing flirts
i would do anything to keep us floating high
i really enjoy the challenge of life on the fly
no one alone should carry the weight
got a lot to do i will try not to be late
its a simple walk from the bus to home
two right and a left
i bet my wife's on the phone
i walk in the door
elijah waits
he's like a bird about the time
when the sun is fading down
he knows i arrive
i would do anything to keep us floating high
i really enjoy the challenge of life on the fly
no one alone should carry the weight
got a lot to do i will try not to be late

Great lyrics &mdash 01/28/06 - 01:00:37 PM
Powerful and fun song! &mdash 01/28/06 - 03:44:39 PM
The drums and guitars sound awesome! I would have never thought to use trombones like this, very creative! I would really be interested in how you recorded this piece. Great energy. Your voice is fun to listen to, clearly above average (it gets almost drowned out by the brass and guitars during the refrain though, but that's allright.). I assume you did all of this yourself, which in itself is an extraordinary achievement. I would say a little bit of remixing and you've got a hit song! And keep up your sense of humor, something a lot of good songwriters lack these days! [ Reply to This ]
fun, rough &mdash 01/28/06 - 04:13:44 PM
Thanks for this latest installment in the life of Elijah's father. Very
enjoyable piece, vivid images, excellent energy. Good, unexpected use
of horns gives this a festive, almost circus atmosphere. Right now, it
has a kind of unfinished feel. The vocal tracks tend to compete with
each other from time to time, which, along iwith all the nstrumental
stuff happening, causes the lyrics to get lost. I am not suggesting you
perfect this to a "studio" sound, but I feel like the vocal "arrangement"
is a little rough at this point? [ Reply to This ]
i hated riding the bus... &mdash 01/29/06 - 07:51:30 AM
until now. very enjoyable tune. love all the 'stuff' going on. made me feel i
was on a city bus. great guitar tone on that lead and bass tone too! my
only qualm is that the chorus doesn't 'come together' enough, i think it
might be in the vocals, the delivery or the mix, i'm either missing a strong
melody to latch onto or i'm just not hearing the vocals that are there
enough. [ Reply to This ]
Bus People &mdash 01/30/06 - 12:05:20 AM
Are a strange folk. packed intogether so close yet very rare anyone even
gets to know the persons name who you sit next to - Yeah and your
music really captures this for me. A blend of strange twisted and common
sounds with your words twirling themselves around and about all that is
going on around you. You definitly see with a third eye you absorb all and
more around you and have an uncanny and wicked way with words
expressing the story to people. I am sure you are just as poetic and
skilled with your camera captures...I love the music it is difinitly fuller
than what I have listened to in the past, A Tom Waits kinda feel and sound
going on Totally love this and again are in awe with what you do.
Thankyou so much Laine* [ Reply to This ]
Dude! &mdash 01/31/06 - 12:16:57 PM
Dude, this is great. The only thing I would suggest is altering the drum
sound. It's a bit ZZ Top circa late 80's. But cool, fun highly original tune.
Faved!

Originality counts &mdash 02/01/06 - 04:27:10 AM
This is different than most stuff here, therefore I give it a 9 in
originality. I think this is a great achievement, to come up with
something that is not "your average rock" or "average blues" piece. Not
that there's something wrong with playing blues or rock, it's just that
there is so many songs alike.
This one comes along with a snotty punk attitude but it's a happy
mood. There's a lot of real life in the undertone of both, the sound and
the lyrics. Reminds me of Becks more creative days. I could also
imagine this track being an opener or song of an indie film soundtrack.
You should send this to a record label as your demo. I think you've got
a chance being heard. [ Reply to This ]
