Description:
this song came from a very deep place. inspired by a personality found here at macjams and elsewhere, the piece itself is more directly about individuality and the sublime existence we are all enrapt in.

Lyrics:
Slumbering
by Me and Boris the Bull

Without love I feel unthinking
I think i'm falling right off of the sun

Without love I feel so empty
The watering hole has dried up and it's gone

Without love I feel so ugly
i'm hauling myself back from all of the fun

And i'm wondering
If this goes on too long, will i fade into slumbering?

Without love I feel so dirty
Showering loneliness under my tongue

Still, i'm wondering
If this goes on too long, will i fade into slumbering?
Into stumbling?
Into mumbling?
It goes on and on and on...

Without love I get so shaky
I feel that i'm mothering everyone

Without love I feel so shallow
Awaiting the scene that may never come

Still, i'm wondering
If this goes on too long, will i fade into slumbering?

Great! &mdash 01/28/06 - 11:31:39 PM
I love the vocals on this song. The melody really works and the lyrics
are wonderful. The vocals really enhance both with a very rich
performance that, although in your higher register, never feel like
they're straining. They're solid throughout. Really like it, Boris!

nice high sounds with the vocal &mdash 01/29/06 - 12:03:49 AM
almost like the beach boys. Every so often you have a percussion that
comes in that is cool. LIke some of the ideas with the backround as well.

left me longing &mdash 01/29/06 - 09:07:45 AM
the lyrics are fantastic. the music supports them well. the music left me
longing, which is a great thing in this case. i wasn't so keen on the synth
solo, kind of ruined the mood for me. maybe something more
atmospheric and less melodic perhaps, speaking of which, the sublte way
you placed some of the supportive synth parts was perfect. i like the vocal
approach alot as well. you got a great song here.

i'm psyched that you all checked out the song. it's definitely not perfect, but
it's a case where "i got it down" and i'm happy just doing that! hehe

joanna, your comments are gems for me. thank you for the kind words!

themasses, thetiler - thank you. coming from you both, i'll take the
comments and run with them!

eleveneyes - i appreciate your comments on the synth. originally, i had put a
guitar-bit in there, but it was just too flat. i kind of like the synth part,
despite the departure. but i agree that more atmospheric may have given a
unique feel to the piece that i missed. good words! thank you!

peace all and thank you, again!!

Pleasant Surprise &mdash 01/29/06 - 11:15:18 AM
I really like the chord progression here. And your vocal is marvellous.
Bravo.

Interesting and different - and I like it! &mdash 01/29/06 - 12:36:46 PM
Nice song Boris. You show remarkable restraint by not letting it take
off into a rock piece (which I think it could handle without any trouble).
The synth solo is certainly a bit out of place. Excellent set of lyrics,
and really like your voice. Not much else to say really. I look forward
to a version with drums and bass. Folk?

Love, Love, Love.... &mdash 01/29/06 - 02:26:05 PM
I agree with jiguma about not breaking out into a predictable rock jam on this.....it keeps the piece intimate......the vocals on this are pure pleasure...right off the bat...all the way to the end...nice work.....t

Love, Love, Love.... &mdash 01/29/06 - 04:09:21 PM
conductor, jigma and t-bone - thank you!!! your comments made my day! i
wasn't sure this piece would even get noticed, let alone fedback upon.

funny, regarding that synth solo, i was actually reflecting off the song, BRAIN
DAMAGE by Pink Floyd. you may be right that it's out of place, but perhaps in
its own defense, i wanted something that was, in fact, odd. the original guitar
solo sounded so flat, that i just scratched it altogether.

any thoughts on what might suit it better? it's been recommended that a
more atmospheric element might work. hmm... this if fun!! thanks again all!

Nice to see another tune o' yours here! &mdash 02/03/06 - 06:15:34 PM
I like the pace and vibe of this song. Nice treatment of the vocals--I
especially like where they overlap at the end.

I've been looking at the other comments and concerning the synth solo--
Actually, (for me, anyway) I didn't think it was the synth itself that was
distracting so much as its timbre/color. It didn't 'match' the rest of the
song and so seemed disconnected. For some reason I wanted it to sound
more like strings. (But that's me :P)

Anyway...great song! Thanks for posting it here! :)

Slumbering no more &mdash 02/06/06 - 08:45:38 PM
This is a cool track. I love the name of the song and the lyrics. The songs
builds nicely with just the occational drum beat thrown in. Very nice. The
guitar progression is something that I've wanted to try on one of my
songgs with just the downbeat strum, it definately adds to the overall feel
of the song. Thanks for posting, now I need to go slumber.

Between the cracks &mdash 02/28/06 - 07:18:44 PM
did this one fall. Wow- great vocal. Blew me away. I think I've asked
before but do you get out and play live around Boston or better yet,
Southern NH or Maine?

great vocals &mdash 03/05/06 - 03:11:14 AM
great lyrics, very strong song writing. This is the sort of song i could
have imagined jumped into a full band sound, drums electric guitars,
then back into the acoustic feel of the song. great tune. lots of
possibilities.

Rich in its sparseness, it cuts to the quick &mdash 03/11/06 - 11:45:23 AM
Nice guitar intro which sustains the composition throughout. Powerful
entrance of layered/effected vocals. I agree it is reminiscent of the
Beach Boys. The sparse drum kits hits are quite effective. The synth
keyboard segment needs work...it doesn't fortify or refresh the song.

Meanings for the "quick":
1. Sensitive or raw exposed flesh, as under the fingernails
2. The most personal and sensitive aspect of the emotions
4. The vital core; the essence

band in? &mdash 03/12/06 - 07:27:43 AM
i was gonna say, this would be great with a band, then the double snare hit kept me going and i started thinking 'hey this is great as it is, the vocals are the strong enough to acrry the song to the way cool synth solo'..........

does it peak at times or is it just my speaker setup (all over the shop).........
you are now in that elite field of kickass macjammers along the likes of selters and the composer imho.........

ive seen your name here heaps but this is the 1st time ive heard your music...apologies to you and to my listening pleasure, as i wished i'd clicked, listened, commented and voted from day 1 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111

Instead of squabbling... &mdash 03/12/06 - 04:55:47 PM
over petty things, I decided that I should give a couple of tracks of
yours a listen. I must say I'm very impressed.

With that said, I love this track. Some felt the synth solo was out of
place, but I feel it fit in just perfectly. It's not like it's a cheesy synth.
Your voice is fantastic. This track reminded me of some good classic
rock you hear on the radio every now and then. And the ending! The
ending was perfect.

So... thanks for squabbling with me. I would have never heard this
song if we didn't! :)

Instead of squabbling... &mdash 03/12/06 - 08:30:40 PM
hey N.O.W.™.... i agree about the debate/squabble thing. it's unimportant
matter. you are correct - it's about the music here. i don't mean to let my
"bullish" nature impede or impose upon others.

as for your comments regarding the song, well, i am truly humbled by your
feedback. believe it or not, your comments made my day! you chose a very
wise reaction in listening to music by someone being of an adversarial nature.
i shall try to learn from that, myself.

and as i said in one post, i shall try to lighten up. thank you and peace!

So that's what Contemporary Folk sounds like ?!?
I would have suffered Genre-Bias, but I followed a link from one of your comments and ended up here .
Mighty glad I did - I liked the structure, I liked the carefully crafted rhymes and enjoyed the simple expression of a simple idea.
Great.

Great chord progression &mdash 05/28/06 - 04:06:19 AM
And I really like these high vocals. Also the fact that the track never really breaks out, gives a welcome tension to the song. Great work Boris.

I'm not laughing at the song. You already know how much i love it, well, i hope i made that clear before. And i favorited this quite some time ago, here.

However, i did not notice that keyword at the time. You put "redrum" in there just for me, didn't you?! You meanie!!! :p Hahaha!!!
