Dude! &mdash 01/29/06 - 04:41:54 AM
Dude, this is is excellent! You've really captured great tone with the
guitars. How's it going with PT7? I have it but am in between projects
so I've held off installing it. And what about those drums? Excellent!
What are you using to produce the drums?
Everything here is great. I even spotted a hint of Billy Joel in the vox...
don't worry - that's a good thing in my books. The songwriting is really
interesting.
I'll just mention the excellent production again.
be cool,
Pie

Dude! &mdash 01/29/06 - 08:08:57 AM
thanks Pie! PT7 is really cool so far. i havn't even scratched the surface of the
new features.
I tracked this in GB. The jazzy drums are a GB loop, and the rock drums are
JamPack soft synth midi programmed drums, indie kit live i believe. i seperate
each drum into its own track and compress, EQ etc. accordingly.
Billy Joel? how funny. my wife has been saying the same thing lately. have you
guys been talking?
Thanks a ton Pie, compliments from you are taken with mucho respect.
Rock Onward!

I gotta say how impressed i am with your efforts on the drums. Fantastic. i've
purchased BFD1.5 - great! Check out fxpansion.com for info on BFD. I'm startin'
with it but it seems awesome.

There is always... &mdash 01/29/06 - 05:13:53 AM
...such a professional sound to your songs that I can't help but wonder
why you're still here... Well, more for us, I guess :)
The production here is definately top notch - the guitars sound awesome
and so do the drums. Like Pie, I ask: What are you using to produce the
drums?
But, frankly, I really don't have anything to criticize here.
Great work. [ Reply to This ]

why am i still here? cuz i was made for loving you guys!
record companies aren't beating down my door cuz they don't know where i live.
but i'll tell them once the house is picked up.
regarding the drums - see my reply to Pie.
Thanks for stopping by Einarus!

Those Bush Girls Know How to Party &mdash 01/29/06 - 05:47:50 AM
Excellent production and performances. And I enjoy the song.
To my ears and listening and listening experience, this is reminiscent of
some of the stuff Mike Keneally does, when he starts veering around
Gentle Giant territory by way of Matthew Sweet. [ Reply to This ]

Mike Keneally huh? you're not the first to bring up his name. I havn't listened to
much of his stuff but maybe i will.
Thanks for checking in Mungo!

Woo Hoo! &mdash 01/29/06 - 07:36:27 AM
Fantastic- Fantastic- Fantastic!
Great production standards aside the song is extremely well written and
performed- I've come to expect nothing less from you. Time after time
you deliver the goods and extremely high quality product.
Loved the line/question about Kevin Bacon- excellent pop culture
reference.
One question: I hear what sounds like piano but don't see that listed in
the hardware list... how the? [ Reply to This ]
Woo Hoo! &mdash 01/29/06 - 08:21:02 AM
ah, the piano. thanks for reminding me, i always forget about that.
i'll add it to the hardware list. I use a Korg Triton proX as a midi control. the
piano sound i use is some GB JamPack patch.

I enjoy your lyrics quite a bit. introspective, clever, insightful. I
appreciate when a songwriter really communicates, as you have here.
This is wonderful, smooth composition, solid vocals, cool guitars, great
production. Top notch. I hear the Billy Joel, but deeper. [ Reply to This ]

I love the way you sing this, and the echoing harmonies , great guitar
playing.
I hear Billy Joel and maybe a little ELO..
Most excellent production indeed. Top marks
Awesome :)

Rockin' &mdash 01/29/06 - 01:55:30 PM
I love your rhythm progression. Soft beginning leading into choppy
guitar verses and driving chorus, then the sweet drawn-out chords of
the breakdown/vamp. Very well crafted song. [ Reply to This ]
thoughts from the bull... &mdash 01/29/06 - 04:32:39 PM
first off, i love the song art! fabulous!
production quality is right on top. great job. instrumentally - holy crap
is this good! same with the vocals.
this piece is at a level i can't imagine attaining. very different from my
own approach, and that's why i really enjoy it.
if i had to offer a crit, i'd say the beginning part might be a bit
unecessary, as when it all kicks in, well, that's the start. but that's my
ear, of course.
great work!!! thank you! [ Reply to This ]

Great-Sounding Tune &mdash 01/29/06 - 09:52:55 PM
At the beginning, I could imagine it heading in a Joe Jackson direction,
and then, as Pie pointed out, it seemed to start taking a Billy Joel turn, but
as if Todd Rundgren was at the engineer's knobs.
Lots of interesting, subtle touches to give it more than one dimension and
a very good sound all-around.
Nice work! [ Reply to This ]

"here we go, here we go" &mdash 02/01/06 - 05:41:42 AM
kinda a Paul Carrack/Squeeze meets the Strokes vibe here. Nice melding of styles. Then you throw in some Steely Dan-like backing vocals. And it keeps surprising you over and over,,, when you dig into a Pink Floyd0like "We all just saw the same crime". Yet with all the varied influences I'm hearing, I think you've done a great job keeping it distinctly your own!
Nice solid guitar tones throughout the song. I'm not a huge keyboard fan, but I think you've done a good job of mixing the early boards into the more rocking guitar part. Not much more to say other than - Nice composition! [ Reply to This ]
Fat guitar sound &mdash 02/04/06 - 04:08:51 AM
They sound awesome. I am always so jealous of the sound you get out
of your equipment. It's as good as you could possibly want out of a
home studio. Cool song. [ Reply to This ]
Amazing sound &mdash 02/05/06 - 01:41:38 AM
Great songwriting here. Amazing sound - this is the depth and
intensity of sound I'm striving for, but seem so far from achieving.
Like Pie and Einarus, I'm especially taken by the excellent drum sound
you get, and hereby pledge to try harder with the drums in my next
song. Like the lyrics a lot, and love the vox. Only crit I have is the
slow start, but it's just niotpicking - can't just rave about it without
something negative now can I? I didn't mention the guitar sound - love
the guitar sound!!
Very professional post - impressed!

Really great lyrics. I find that there are mostly instrumentals on this site,
which are beautiful, of course, but I am a lyrics whore, and I like yours
very much.
I like this song. Thank you so much for sharing. [ Reply to This ]

You've either spent TIME on this project, or you're gifted to the extent that a few of us are getting ripped. And I mean BIG. It wouldn't matter what comments I had for you, you're obviously out of practically everyone's league who'll even browse this site. That includes you pros. Hell, I'm getting pissed that I even landed here. I've gone beyond being inspired to feeling like I'll never rate. I'm outta here (after I listen for the umpteenth time)! [ Reply to This ]

yes i have spent time trying to improve in the recording arts. ever since i got my
first two-track reel to reel, multi-track recording has been a passion of mine.
But I must admit that in my 20+ years of home recording and being in pro-
studios, it wasn't until I joined MacJams that I feel my recordings started to
improve exponentially. Listen to my first post vs. my latest and you'll notice a
huge difference. Believe me, I've been awed and overwhelmed listening to
others' songs on this site, don't let it get you down. If others are doing it, it only
means that you can too.

love your writing &mdash 04/29/06 - 04:11:35 AM
But I don't know where to start cause everything about this is so very
good and right... I see many comment about your production, and I
don't see how it could improve... but, your production could be less
pro and still kick because the performances are stellar... polishing
turds will only get us so far... you've captured moments.... brilliant...

tremble at the veracity of this effort. You are indeed a mix monster.
The whole concept, from the funky power guitar chords to the
incredibly complex rhythmic drumming, to the eclectic backing vocals
just transcends most everything I've heard at MJ. very original and
simply awesome! I'd humbly ask what you used as a vocal processor.
Thats a sound I could listen to all day long :-) [ Reply to This ]
stereo delay &mdash 12/01/06 - 06:26:29 PM
I put a stereo delay on the vocals with diffent delay times on each channel. Right side was around 30 msecs and Left was probably 35 msecs.
