Description
way back when i got my first version of protools free from macaddict magazine, i thought it would be fun to create some form of ambient music. I thought that would be SO original....of course , i had not yet found the treasure trove of ambient soundscapes that is macjams...there are folks who do remakable things!

But i had very little knowledge or tools at the time...i looped together some background sounds to create a bed...i thought using the mac sound effects was very creative, as i was thinking insects buzzing around a sunlit pond...and a wood block...then built as many guitar sounds as i could think of and had room for on my eight tracks. I used a small snippet recorded on a cheesy Dean acoustic electric as the main theme....(that guitar has not been played since that day)...the chimes are me smacking the neck of the PRS while forming a Cmaj7 chord... i agonized for weeks over the tiny little improvised solo parts, until i got something i liked. then i listened to this everynight to lull me to sleep. it worked like a charm!...the piece languished in my iPod under "nitey-nite" for months.

When i joined macjams and heard all the great ambiennt music i thought of my little raga. I asked mystified if she liked it. well, she offered to sing on it!! cool!! when she sent it back..i looped her voice and place it around...but leaving huge chunks of what she had improvised exactly where it was...her timing is as exquisite as everything else she does...I then added GB keyboard sounds and the flute...and again it languished in the iPod, this time under "favorites".

At nearly 14 minutes, this is a big download and a long listen....and not the usual kind of thing for me. But it means a lot to me, and I love Mysti's voice, and i still use it to chill. That is what this is supposed to be, a late night raga... like a nice herb tea...or something

Those Mysti sirens
and that lovely longing guitar... and the creative mind of Ziti... the
three come together to build an ethereal place that calls to us all, yet
none of us can do more than catch a glimpse of, out of the corner of
our eye. Probably a good thing, because if we were able to follow the
siren call to that place, we would lose ourselves there, never to return.
Thank you for letting us enjoy this dangerously delightful place of
hedonism and eternal beauty. You are one of the great gifted
composers and musicians here, Fran, and you do "Ambient" quite well.
Bits of Tangerine Dream... and of course, I know a certain offspring
who'll want a copy of this too! DL'ed/Faved sir! Myst, your vocal swirls
are beautiful, as always!

SNAGGLEHORNS!
Atmospheric. I tripped on the shag carpet coming down the corridor and the lava lamp fell off the table as the gypsy screamed and stabbed her self with a butter knife. Mmmmmm! Food for thought? I could fornicate to this!

Well described.
This is pretty amazing... relaxing, medative, reflective... wonderfully
peaceful and serene. I'd write more but man... I'm too darn relaxed.

Oh, wow...
...I want to give you an essay on how much I like this...
I really do, and believe me - you deserve it, but I don't want to ruin this
tranquil, peaceful state I'm in right now. I'm honestly typing a the speed
of 15 characters per minute...

...amazing...

Its clever to keep this bed of moods and sounds at the level of energy you two have made. Not falling for the temptation to put on all the soloing parts you must have jammed along to this:) I bet i would... and ruin the wonderful delicate, tender touch this has. I get an feeling of being in an ancient time, walking through a moist forest, waiting to run into Robin Hood and his mates...

Wonderful work from both of you.

Thanks Thoddi....actually...this was one time i didn't jam all over the top of
something! from the very beginning i was trying to produce something that
would literally put me to sleep..cuz i have trouble with insomnia a lot!

The parts where i did improvise over are very short, and were done over and
over to get the feel right....plus i ws hearing things i couldn't play...this was
myfirst foray into really recording something like i was hearing on Oregon
records or ECM jazz albums. But seeing as how this really was my first
attempt at any kind of looping or digital manipulation, I really was shootingin
the dark.... so it sat for a year
before mysti got hold of it...she transformed it for me and made it a thing i
thought maybe others would enjoy. That's when i finished it with the indian
flute stuff and strings.

Mystified has the ability to take anything and transform it to something
special...she always supplies fuel for me. Mystified is a gift that god gave me
to revitalize my guitar playing. her encouragement and interest in my playing
is helping me realize the spiritual nature of my music, and has
enthusiastically encouraged me to concentrate on the spiritual part of my
playing. I will owe her a debt for the rest of my days! When you do that, the
music that results is pleasing. For the first time in my life i feel pleased by
the whole thing! Thanks Mysti!!

Well...that's such a gracious compliment, z. But I have to tell you, singing to this
was easy. One take was all it took after listening to it once through.
Maybe that's because you are an artist in search of spirituality in your music...so
it's there already, really.

I'm glad that my additions made you pursue continuing and completing it.
Kudos to you, my friend :)

Happy to send this to the weekly picks
Hard to believe this only has 3 votes until now. Maybe everyone is so,
like spaced out, man, that like, they don't know what to do!

This is a difficult piece, Z. Difficult to sustain 14 minutes of ambience
without being dull or uninteresting. I believe Mysti has really helped
move this piece along to its final destination, which is where we all are
when we get there: here. Heavy.

Excellent meditative work. Cat is made for this. 10's from me.

Great work Ziti!
You and Cat make quite a team...My only suggestion is I would stop all
background music the last 30 seconds of the piece except for Mysti's
voice. I would then do a long 30 sec fade or whatever feels right on her
vocal so its the last thing you hear before drifting off the sleep....Now if
that doesn't take you to another dimension of dream-state nothing will!
Peace and Light to you both.....digitalnirvana9/Norman

Yes, I agree, that would work like a charm....i actually have this and mysti's
beautiful version of Shenendoah together as a bedtime play list. If you have
not listened to our other colabs, GRACE, which mysti added to after the fact,
and WAYFARING STRANGER which Mysti arranged and played keys on, then
you prolly should. It is wonderful to contrast my earthly electric guitar with
Mysti's heaven bound vocals... These are cherished pieces to me, and gifts
that I will enjoy for the rest of my life.

Thank you for the kind words!!

Yes, at some point Mysti will be recognized as the world class talent that she
truly is, and you will have a wonderful momento of a sucessful collaboration
with her....It doesn't get much better than that....Peace and Light,

Quite entrancing, tribal, evokes a whole host
of visual imagery. I may use this in my writing class as a backdrop for an
assignment. With your permission of course. I can see the students being
seriously inspired by this beautiful piece.

Startled by restraint!
I've been looking for some good music to relax to, and I think I've
found it - perfect for those 3am wakeful periods too. Fran, I'm startled
by your restraint on this - you must have been so tempted to let fly,
and build with tablas and stuff. There's a point about 2/3 of the way
through where you sound about to let rip, but you drop right off and
blend back into the soundscape. Listening as I go here: Mysti's vocals
are so perfect for the bed you've created - the whole thing is just so
incredibly relaxing and atmospheric (forest by night, full moon, flowing
robes, a swirl or two of mist, maybe a small stream and people moving
in from the edges of vision - you know what I mean).
Bloody brilliant!
