way back when i got my first version of protools free from macaddict magazine, i thought it would be fun to create some form of ambient music. I thought that would be SO original....of course , i had not yet found the treasure trove of ambient soundscapes that is macjams...there are folks who do remakable things!
But i had very little knowledge or tools at the time...i looped together some background sounds to create a bed...i thought using the mac sound effects was very creative, as i was thinking insects buzzing around a sunlit pond...and a wood block...then built as many guitar sounds as i could think of and had room for on my eight tracks. I used a small snippet recorded on a cheesy Dean acoustic electric as the main theme....(that guitar has not been played since that day)...the chimes are me smacking the neck of the PRS while forming a Cmaj7 chord... i agonized for weeks over the tiny little improvised solo parts, until i got something i liked. then i listened to this everynight to lull me to sleep. it worked like a charm!...the piece languished in my iPod under "nitey-nite" for months.
When i joined macjams and heard all the great ambiennt music i thought of my little raga. I asked mystified if she liked it. well, she offered to sing on it!! cool!! when she sent it back..i looped her voice and place it around...but leaving huge chunks of what she had improvised exactly where it was...her timing is as exquisite as everything else she does...I then added GB keyboard sounds and the flute...and again it languished in the iPod, this time under "favorites".
At nearly 14 minutes, this is a big download and a long listen....and not the usual kind of thing for me. But it means a lot to me, and I love Mysti's voice, and i still use it to chill. That is what this is supposed to be, a late night raga... like a nice herb tea...or something

oooohhhhooooooohhhh

and that lovely longing guitar... and the creative mind of Ziti... the
three come together to build an ethereal place that calls to us all, yet
none of us can do more than catch a glimpse of, out of the corner of
our eye. Probably a good thing, because if we were able to follow the
siren call to that place, we would lose ourselves there, never to return.
Thank you for letting us enjoy this dangerously delightful place of
hedonism and eternal beauty. You are one of the great gifted
composers and musicians here, Fran, and you do "Ambient" quite well.
Bits of Tangerine Dream... and of course, I know a certain offspring
who'll want a copy of this too! DL'ed/Faved sir! Myst, your vocal swirls
are beautiful, as always!
ttfn,
Drakonis
