i love comments!

Lyrics:
i knew a man who claimed to follow the snow
i thought our love would mean he would never go
but soon march turned into browns and grays
and he knew it was time to go away
oh, julian.

the last i saw of him he was getting on the train
and there i knew id never see him again
he threw a note out the window pane
and he whispered to me,
i have to get on this train
oh julian

heavy hands opened it while dark eyes of mine
read the note ive read at least a hundred more times
my eyes read greedily, eating up every last work
who knew these words could cause so much hurt?
oh, julian.

and the note said

dear katherine im no longer a burden
i couldnt stand to see you hurting
i hope you understand
no, i know you will.
my heart is as cold as a shadow,
which is the reason that i should go
i care too much to see you hurt again
love, julian.

Very &mdash 01/29/06 - 08:06:53 PM
somber mood you have created, really enjoyed the lyrics as they really
fit well with the overall tone of the music. The instruments are sort of
muffled and mix the needs some work. But overall good start welcome
to MacJams.

I'd agree with hacked &mdash 01/29/06 - 08:55:14 PM
The mix is muffled. I blame Audacity, but it is a free program, after all,
and you get what you pay for. There's some odd sounding stuff in the
background, and a little less gimmicky arrangement might work better,
but the bones are good. Watch out for peaking and pops a little more
carefully and it could be improved a lot.

I think there is something good here &mdash 01/30/06 - 06:21:48 AM
although it's a little hard to hear past the production issues. It seems as if
you have some equipment needs. A mic, preamp, and Garageband, of
course, would help raise the fidelity. But your voice is super and haunting.
I will check out your other tunes.

Production needs...song great... &mdash 01/30/06 - 08:16:27 AM
Hello and welcome to macjams.

The song itself is fantastic and shows so much promise.
Your ideas are really great too and your voice is superb.

This does need work on the production and didn't play well here soundwise.

Try burning your track to cd and previewing it through many didn't systems, you know car stereo, headphones, hi fi, etc.

You'll be able to judge your mix better.

I gotta say though as a concept, your voice and the overall feeling are all great.

Really, really look forward to hearing this when done and if you need any further prompters or help feel free to mail through the site.

Thanks for posting :-)

yeah, i cant wait until i get a mac so i can use garageband. i have no drum loops, etc. its quite sad really.
i have cakewalk, but i dont know how to use it and therefore dont. i know the recording is bad, but..oh well. its content that counts. and you should hear me live ;)

Well if you have Cakewalk I would suggest learning how to use it, as you well
a least have access to EQ and compression, effects , etc. However wether you
use a Mac or a PC is irrelevant, as the principles of recording are the same
regardless of platform or software used. Granted some programs are easier
than others but until you get a Mac, download a few tutorials on Cakewalk if
you spend a few solid hours you can figure out enough to get you started.

I could imagine your quite brilliant live. Like I say I think the feel of the track and where your heading really is brilliant.

Nice song &mdash 01/30/06 - 09:04:55 AM
The vocals were really hard to pick up. It was almost as if they weren't there. I thought the song itself was a solid effort and, if produced properly, could be a very good piece. GarageBand provides pretty good support for recording vocals, provided you had a way of getting them in. Even without a good mic, it is possible to get some decent results, as some people have used only their Mac's built-in Mic. I think this might be more of a post-production issue. Good luck!

Darkness. Nice composition. Beyond production issues, it has a deep
felt sound to it.

Excellent Song &mdash 02/20/06 - 05:13:40 PM
Slightly reminiscent at points of the Rolling Stone's Angie (it made me
thing I'd hear Mick Jagger's voice come in :)), but very much your own
creation.
As noted elsewhere, the production needs work. It's my opinion that the
hardest part for most people is the song part - you've got that well in
hand here in my opinion.

sounds great &mdash 10/30/06 - 01:04:07 AM
I happen to love the rawness of the recording quality. It feels much more personal to me. And as you previously stated, it is the content that counts. The world doesn't need anymore perfectly recorded music, it just needs people that aren't afraid to experiment with what they have and make something amazing with tools that aren't so amazing.

would love &mdash 01/09/07 - 01:04:56 AM
to hear a remix as it offers the promise like a theatrical trailer that makes you say I want to see that.
