Description:
I always wanted to be the singer who performed a James Bond track.. I've getting older and thought what am I waiting for? The chances of being asked are slim so I decided to write my own!
Please give me feedback. Never written anything like this before!

Somewhere between Eartha Kitt and Shirley Bassey &mdash 02/02/06 - 04:44:28 AM
Lies your voice. Excellent singing.
Some other personal observations/comments/opinions:
The orchestration seems slightly too 'cartoonish' to my ears (ascending/
descending xylophone-like keyboard especially) - I like the horns and bg
vocals. And the drums seem a bit too forward and rock-ish for the sound
I think you are trying to achieve.
I think it would be good to bring your lead vocal forward in the mix.
Welcome to MacJams.

Nothing to apologise for. I have been missing for a while!!!
James Bond is cartoonish. I tried to stick to the old style Bond so glad that I
managed to achieve it. Production is a tricky topic because it all comes down to
personal taste... Thanks so much for your comments though. I'm going to listen
with those in mind.

Hey Amanda &mdash 02/02/06 - 06:55:36 AM
Glad to see you post another one. I think you got the style just right. The
one thing that Mungo mentions that I agree with (sort of) is that the
vocals sound a bit thin in this mix to me - it almost sounds like a phase
problem, but could have to do with a reverb choice. I know how full and
lovely your voice can sound. Good tune.

Great job with this one, truly matches the classic Bond theme sound and style. They should be so lucky to have this for the opening!

Nice Musical Paean... &mdash 02/02/06 - 10:15:30 AM
to the old-style Bond musical genre, although to be more authentic you'd
need to add a little bit of surf guitar to the mix. You've done a nice job of
suggesting --- rather than copping --- the main Bond theme. And while
there are some quirky musical elements at conflict with one another in
this arrangement, they are not a major distraction.

As it's your first attempt at an orchestration like this, I'd say you've done
pretty well. The vocals are very well done but do deserve a fatter presence
in the mix.

I do believe you've made Moneypenny jealous. ;)

Shaken and stirred &mdash 02/03/06 - 05:38:13 PM
Great stuff… better than the recent Tina Turner, Madonna and
Garbage Bond themes put together. However, still lacks that
"fingers down the spine" songwriting magic that the very best
Bond themes have, and I think others have mentioned that the
orchestration isn't quite powerful or serious enough (maybe bad
choice of words) for a Bond theme tune. The vocals are great and
Mungo's Kitt meets Bassey comparison is spot on, but putting
them forward in the mix, or whatever, would be good. Fantastic
effort though. Goldfrapp would be my top choice for the next
Bond theme but you're currently second on the list. Do they have
your number? :-)

Big production - how did you do it? It's fantastic. Great vocal
performance too. You nailed it. Well done.

Flabagasted!! &mdash 02/07/06 - 04:52:22 PM
Thank you first of all..
gonna try and lift the voice a little! I used a new mic and had a bit of
trouble with it. But also messed around with it for a while post
recording so that could be it!

E. Gibbon - I am soooo chuffed that I'm your number 2 choice. That
rocks!! Goldfrapp are fantastic! Is it possible to get the "fingers down
the spine" - maybe not. No greater themes can be made than
goldfinger, Diamonds, Live & Let Die!

Cheers everybody!

Stirred and more than a little shaken &mdash 02/08/06 - 01:41:46 PM
A terrific track - you've you don't get the gig for the next Bond movie
there's no justice in the world! There's been a few crits of the
orchestration but I actually like the rockiness of this track and the
xylophone scales - and wouldn't change these at all. Perhaps you need
something more heavyweight at the end bring out more brass and, of
course, some tympani thumps and cymbal crashes! Very catchy and
stylish.

Chapman. Amanda Chapman &mdash 02/18/06 - 06:05:41 PM
This has a nice sound. The vocals and 60's styling put me in the mind of Combustible Edison. I think it's a pretty great tune, well done. The drums sound a little machine-ish to me. Nicely varied and imaginative. Also love the little nod to the Bond theme after the count down. A nice touch.

what a great job on this. I would be very interested in learning how you
performed all the backing tracks? loops? analogue recording
techniques etc? I also enjoyed "krackle", both the song and video. Both
had excellent production, and your I enjoy your voice and sense of
style. Look forward to more!

The Next Shirley Bassey? &mdash 04/14/06 - 06:26:36 PM
This was fun to listen to! (And better than several of the actual Bond songs in my opinion.)

Of the unofficial Bond-style themes, this ranks right up there with "Firewall" used for the Bond parody episode of Reboot.

Good work!

You had me confused &mdash 04/29/06 - 01:43:08 PM
... since there was a (very strange) 1966 CASINO ROYALE, a James Bond
self-parody film. The (excellent!) soundtrack was composed by Burt
Bacharach, performed by Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass. I think the
Dusty Springfield hit "The Look of Love" was written for the film.

Amanda, please let me know (or just post to MacJams) if you ever
"release" an instrumental version?

Prevailed in my mind &mdash 12/22/06 - 04:32:15 AM
Now that I'm back at MacJams, I figured I'd take a moment to let you know that your theme song to Casino Royale has stuck in my mind continuously despite the fact that I had only listened to it twice before. Even hearing the title "Casino Royale" spoken by someone evokes you singing those words. And sadly, although I remember it being pretty decent, I can't remember the real theme song, only yours. :)

Pretty cool! &mdash 01/14/07 - 08:49:30 AM
Very nice put together, it has the real Bond feel to it! Like the breaks with the brass sections. The drums sound a little to "drummachine" like... but thats not the core of this song anyway! Very good song writing!

Not a bad shot at this genre. You must have had fun doing this one. What an adventure eh? Dream fulfilled. Next stop, who knows. Music can take you so many places.

Awesome!! &mdash 11/18/07 - 10:02:44 PM
This is great. I have been getting into old Bond movies recently and trying to get my hands on some of the original soundtracks. In my opinion the best theme songs were done by Shirley Bassey and you've really captured that feel here. Your voice is great when you really belt it out like that. More please!
