Description
Monday morning I woke up with the tune for the chorus of this song in my head, so I tried my best to fit guitar and lyrics to it, and the song sort of took on a life of it's own. Two guitars, piano, drums, and vocals. I'm very happy with the outcome.

I think this version works well enough, but I'm more excited by the potential. I think the bones of the song are solid (lyrics melody, and basic rhythm), and a good base for additions and modifications. I'm thinking of it as maleable and hoping that others will help me finish it up. Specifically I'm thinking of a better percussion section, any harmony or background vocals people think could be added, or an improved piano part. Also if someone wanted to redo the main vocals I'd be happy with that. So basically I'm asking for help, and giving anyone the freedom to mess around with, change, and improve on this sketch. Thanks. Enjoy.

P.S. - this is the first song I've recorded with my own voice so if anyone has any suggestions about how it could be improved I'd appreciate it.

Lyrics
I'm flailing against the walls of my captors,
But they're not listening, no.
I'm flailing against the walls of my captors,
But they're not listening

Then I realize
They're behind the bars with me,

Outside these walls lies a world unknown,
sung of only in cheerful tones
I have a small window in this room
I always look, expecting to see you

But you're behind the bars with me.

This song is of those who
I've always given agency to
There are no captors holding me still
Only the shadows of my will

They're behind the bars with me.
Now I realize,
they're behind the bars with me.
You're behind the bars with me,

i have a melodica line id like to add to this track. what i can do is just d/load your track, load it into cubase and start my recording at the beginning of your track. then ill send you my line and just start tracks together and then you can remix to your liking or not bother with if you dont think is cool......if thats cool?

Ok, that's fantastic. I'd never heard of a melodica before, but looked it up
and I'm excited to hear what you have in mind. I'm new to sharing music files
in different formats over the web, so just tell me if you need me to do
anything.

i think your voice is really good......if you can carry a tune based around a fairly basic and cliche chord progression (no offense but some people will be hung up on that) then to me, youve got a good voice. the effect is good as it adds alienation, which suits the subject matter well.
i also love the way the song builds up to the subtle drum line.....
good radio fare............cool lyrics........top marks

Yeah, there must be a thousand songs with this progression. That was one of
my reservations when I was writing it, but it seemed to work and I think it fits
the mood well.

Good song
Very pleasant melody and build up of the tune. Good job:)

I might fall for the temptation to add some bassguitar if you're interested...

Good song
I was thinking the song could use a bassline. That would be great.

great sketch
Even in this sketchy stage I really like the whole thing. I think you can
improve on it here and there. A bass would be one nice addition. I think I
like the "telephone" treatment on your vocals; it sets a mood, a feeling of
you being distant and lost. Perhaps it would be good to come out of that
effect in the middle of the song and come in full tone along with the fuller
arrangement, pulling us inside for a time.

I really like this song.

great sketch
Thanks for the suggestion. I just tried pulling in the full voice for the 3rd
verse and chorus and you're right, it makes it much more intimate and is a
great changup for the song. The next version of the song will hopefully
include this change along with a melodica and bassline!

Good song - but you should rework the vocals
When the song started out I thought that the vocals were an effect that would go away after a few seconds. I'm not sure if the sound was intentional, or accidental... but your voice was very hard to hear and sounded like it was across a telephone. I think it would be ok to start it like that, but then it should grow much fiuller.

Good song - but you should rework the vocals
Good point. In the upcoming new version with the talented thoddi's bass,
lead guitar, vocal, and harmonica parts added (should be posted tomorrow or
the next day!), the voice comes in full halfway through.
