Description:
My seven year old daughter has been begging to record a song. I told her as soon as she had the song and lyrics done we could record it. Ten minutes later- here she comes, paper in hand and says "I'm ready now, Daddy."
I had Katie sing the melody for the song and I played some chords... we rehearsed it all the way through twice and decided we were ready to "go for it".
This song is strongly inspired by a Spongebob song... lyrically, that is. Apparently when you're seven writing a song is the same as writing a song down... :)
Much thanks from Katie to pgreenstone who handled the production and mixing duties.

Great... &mdash 02/03/06 - 03:58:34 AM
Katie. Nice song. Most of us are struggling to achieve simplicity and
honesty. You've got it in one. Thanks. A great lilt. (Your dad's not to
sloppy on the guitar, either...) [ Reply to This ]
Lovely singing &mdash 02/03/06 - 04:26:37 AM
Hey Katie, way to go! You've got a great voice, full of confidence. You
also sound like you're enjoying yourself, and that's always a good
thing. I hope you'll do more songs like this! [ Reply to This ]
I LOVE THIS &mdash 02/03/06 - 08:27:16 AM
Katie, this is wonderful and a great reminder of the joy in simple things
in life. This is one of my favorite songs ever posted on Macjams. I've
downloaded it and it's going on my iPod.
Adam, I'd love to hear a ful-on Joe Hollywood version of this al what
he did with The Song of this World. This is a really clever little song
with a lovely melody. Thank you so much for posting it. I keep
dreaming of doing one with my daughter, but she goes all Chris
Cornell when she gets near a microphone. [ Reply to This ]
This is .... &mdash 02/03/06 - 10:20:18 AM
adorable ... but then again .. I had the "honour" of getting a "sneak peek" at this song before it was posted. Katie ... you have a lovely confident voice - ask Daddy to explain to you what that means .... [ Reply to This ]
Beautiful &mdash 02/03/06 - 02:45:53 PM
Ah, sothing to hear some more kid-singin here! Really sweet!
You said: "Apparently when you're seven writing a song is the same as
writing a song down" ...
Yes that was exactly what happened when my (also seven year old)
daghter "Sunbeam" wrote her song. She wrote it on paper, left it tom me,
and almost got irritated on me when I asked her about such complications
as "what is the music gonna be?"

Better sweater than mine &mdash 02/03/06 - 06:41:52 PM
I often feel like most of what I do is "writing a song down" as opposed
to "writing a song." Either their isn't much difference between the way a
7 year old and a 37 year old approach music or I've got 30 years of
musical learning to catch up on.
Katie, I have a striped sweater too, but it doesn't seem nearly as nice as
yours sounds. Mine is sort of brown and itchy. I really like your song
and think you should write some more. Maybe you could write one
about something your dad likes to wear when he plays guitar. Does he
have an old pair of pink, fluffy slippers you could tell us about? [ Reply to This ]

You have a lovely lovely voice. Wonderful singing with the music.
I also think the lyrics you wrote were great. Just perfect!
Well done Katie, I really hope you do some more songs for us at Macjams.

Great track, you have a superstar in the making, not that you needed me
to tell you.

Some of the time? &mdash 03/16/06 - 06:20:33 PM
Well, Katie, I don't know about wearing it "all of the time," because
once summer rolls in and the temperature climbs into the 70s and 80s
you may want to switch to a striped t-shirt. Or maybe a striped
swimming suit? So maybe the best time for a striped sweater is the
winter time?
This is the kind of feedback you have to expect when you post
something on macjams. It doesn't mean there is anything wrong with
your song. It's just somebody else making a suggestion that may - or
may not - be helpful. Overall, I think your song is pretty wonderful in
its emotional directness. And your singing is good, too - especially the
way you say "yeah" in the second line. So I hope you keep writing and
working with your Dad and put up some more songs for the macjams
community to hear. [ Reply to This ]

Great song &mdash 03/21/06 - 08:41:38 PM
I missed it last month, but I got here to give it a listen in March. It's never
too early to start writing songs, and writing them down is even better,
because then you don't forget them as easily. [ Reply to This ]
