Description:
I had fun with this one, thanks for the invitation to do Galaxy Band 7.

This was like scoring a movie I could make up as I went. Sound FX and
all. I found myself wanting to stay in a particular section but I had
to continue on with the story, especially with the last section where
I escape back into space.

Anyway, think of this one truly as a soundtrack to my story and not a
song in it's self. It will help you to interpret the musical
differences.

-------------------------------

My spaceship comes flying into the martian atmosphere. It is very
erie, and I only remember a tiny bit before I pass out. I awake
in...in this swamp. But no, it is a full tank. I am held under water.
They must think I breathe water. I am no fish. I can't breathe. I
place my hands on the tank, looking around in desperation. Someone
passes. Hope. Inspiration. I pound on the thick glass. They respond. I
am lifted out of the water. Relief.

This martian seems friendlier than the others. I understand none of
it's gibberish. That's OK though. He pulls me into his hut and there
is a party. Wait, no, a martian dance. I can not dance, maybe the tank
was better. They have banjos, trumpets, violin. I expected something
different. I look on. I am still confused. I am alive though. That is
good.

But wait, no. I hear something. Something lurking below. The floor is
thrown into the air and I run. Run for my ship. I can not find it. I
find another though. I hop in. Whatever had lurked is on my trail. I
start up the engines. They are coming, but I am going, I shoot of into
the black of space.

Ah, Safe. I sit in my cockpit as my heart rate reduces.
Relief and reflection washed in the beautiful dark of space.

-------------------------------

The first half started from a dream. I woke up when I ran out of air
in the tank.
The party / dance is inspired from recently watching Firefly.
The escape just sounded like a good idea.
The end I wish to experience.

Ben.

The final frontier &mdash 02/04/06 - 09:24:03 PM
I'm really enjoying these Galaxy Band 'installments!'

Great job on this one, Ben. I loved the sound fx at the beginning, and the
shifts in mood were great and kept it interesting. Very visual...and your
production is so clean.
Kudos on a great addition to Tadashi's story :)

The space adventure goes on... &mdash 02/05/06 - 10:00:44 AM
Posting the story certainly made me follow the progression of this song
with excitement... what an incredible journey! I liked most the part
where you speed running out of that Martian cave and start your
roaring engines and blast away to the freedom of space...Got my heart
racing there a bit :-)

Sidenotes: What a party-pooper you are, Ben! You killed the Martian
celebration. That rumbling under the ground was just the swelling of a
monster that has wreaked havoc upon this poor Martian village.
Where's the part where they were supposedly hailing you as their
Godsend to kill the monster? :-)

You did Firefly/Serenity proud for this musical masterpiece!

Heh, Leon, Thanks. I guess I can kill the monster in your version. I am not a very
good monster killer though, so I might not make it to the last part.

I can't believe this place &mdash 02/05/06 - 12:42:57 PM
It seems that lately, like 9 times out of ten times, when I check out an
artist for the first time, I am just blown away at the high degree in
quality. Although, it was through MissC's latest that I recognized your
name and decided that the risk was minimal and that likely, I wouldn't
have to listen w/ my cheeks clinched...

And, I can hear why you and MissC know one another now... - This is a
wonderful bed of dynamics set in a very cinematic theme - Truly an
dramatic experience. Very nice Audoligic. Not one note of regret...

Thanks for the show - Cyd

next stepping stone &mdash 02/05/06 - 04:11:54 PM
Great stuff Ben! I like the mix of rich melody and sound effects... you
transition between them smoothly, they match your story well, and
everything is crisply recorded. Crazy stop on Mars... where to next?

I'm still fashionably late aren't I? :) &mdash 02/06/06 - 06:58:44 AM
As usual, what have I got to say but wow?

I love the moving from one mood and environment to the other. All the
effects are perfectly integrated. You really do take us on a little
adventure here, a satisfying romp through the solar system. There's
need for a better banjo, but it's Martian so maybe that's just their
model!

I love the takeoff... but then I've always loved takeoffs. ;)

Go on to Neptune - there's a nice invisible space station can outfit any
ship with the latest technology from across the system - for a small
price of course. :)

I had to put the take-off in there, CJ, I've been trying to throw one in a song for
some time. This let me do it :). It is three different jet sounds mixed together.

Thanks, CJ.

Commenting on the go... &mdash 02/07/06 - 05:27:33 AM
Interesting spaceship in the beginning there - ever thought of
updating? :)

Nice mysterious vibe you got going now. Ahh - the elektro harmonics. I
love that synth instrument :) Pretty cheerful now.
I sense hope and exploration of new unchartered areas - or in other
words: just plain fun.

Uh, oh - no fun anymore. Nice fright you got going there. Powerful
engine! Now *there's* a spaceship sound! :)

Nice little melody in the end, there.

Very nice work. These GB parts are really fun to hear - let alone do :)

P.S. Congrats - your track is now the 2000th track I have on iTunes!

Ooh, 2000th track :) Thanks.

I usually select instuments at random, and that synth was one of them, so I
guess you can thank luck.

Thanks for the comments.

like how it takes off almost &mdash 02/08/06 - 05:44:26 PM
like in a movie. Has suspense, you caught me with that start. Like how
it goes subly with an almost Enya sound - love that sound really.

Like how it goes into that Enya type flow, note that it is Enya but that
about the best I can do to give it meaning in words. But I love that
sound!

Way to go! Impressive! Subtle again, going into a kind of barbaric
dance with a rising sound that is very cool.

Lots of very, very interesting things. Really has a movie feel!

I guess my fav parts are the sweet melodic new age notes. But it all fits
in in a movie type setting!

ooooo &mdash 02/14/06 - 09:32:54 PM
this has some of my favorite aspects of your music channeled into
a different type of persona. you really have been on an identity
search lately, haven't you.
as usual, you've put together some melodic wonders that make
me shiver, and this time you have created such a space for them
to inhabit that they really have the chance to pop.
