Description:
Here is the original version of 'With Dignity and Grace', which I posted in its synthesized version earlier this weekend. I recorded it once for each voice part, and it's a bit rough. Also, I am aware that the key pitch raises by a half step from the beginning to the end of it.
Some people express their hidden feelings and emotions through writing, some through their actions toward others, and some through vigorous physical activity. I do these 'wordless songs', and they help me 'move on'. There's a thread from Voices in the Ether to Lament to Dignity & Grace which reflect a personal journey from confusion, to sadness and anger, to active acceptance in my own life. Anyway, I hope you enjoy this pice.

I prefer music without words &mdash 02/06/06 - 04:27:44 AM
IMHO, words have a tendency to limit possible interpretations and the
song becomes more about the words than the music.
Thanks for posting the original.

Thanks, Mungo. I'm glad I posted the original, despite its obvious imperfections.
i'm glad you liked it.

Light streams in.... &mdash 02/06/06 - 07:01:37 AM
....through the high windows of the cavernous cathedral, illuminating a
lone figure sitting in solitary meditation. Beautiful and moving. Like
Mungo said, a song without words can far more than a song with words
can.

wow, if I ever need lyrics for a piece like this, I'll know where to turn. Thanks for
the encouraging message.

Interesting &mdash 02/06/06 - 08:56:14 AM
Your song description helped me 'get' this piece. The half-step rise
from beginning to end is noticeable along the way, but somehow gives
this a lift, from confusion to active acceptance. I enjoyed listening to
this.

Bubbly chorus &mdash 02/06/06 - 11:19:53 AM
Intriguing... I absolutely loved the music & harmonies, and the half
step at the end, even though I was anticipating it, was sort of a fun
surprise. However, the warbly effect on the vox seemed a little too
heavy for me, the reverb was OK, but the phasing effects beating on
each of the voices was a little distracting. If it were me, I'd suggest
maybe only doing that on some of the secondary voices, or just in the
middle of the piece and have yourself emerge from it at the end... but I
felt like I was listening to mermaid song and not quite getting it, and
wishing I could hear it more clearly. Maybe that's part of your message
though, that there is incredible beauty hidden inside, those around us
just have to look a little harder for it?

Drakonis

Don't know which one &mdash 02/06/06 - 11:26:50 AM
I like better; this or the synth version. They are both ethereal!

God bless,

Rick

filter an angel chorus through a long-forgotten memory, splintered by
the early morning rain. This is what you will find.

Glorious is the word that comes to mind... &mdash 02/28/06 - 09:53:09 PM
I've seen your name, and I'm sorry that I haven't listened until now, but
I'm glad that I did. Your vocals here, they put me in one of those grand
cathedrals that reverb a voice such as yours to a place that's strikingly
near, to forever... This being said, I would like to hear your voice
outside of the Sistine Chapel. I think that it would reveal some true
treats for us all.

I'd like to take this time to say thanks Kristyjo, for providing a presence
that is always gracious it seems, and no matter when I see your name
here. You are one of the way many that helps in making this a
wonderful sight to visit.

Truly,

Dion/Cyd

and thank you for YOUR gracious comments!
I have been working on this from time to time, and I'm trying to tone down the
reverb without losing some of the feel I was going for. My voice 'dry' is nothing
special - I overuse my voice incorrectly, so it almost always sounds 'fried' (the
exact word the dr. used when I went in to check for nodes.) My brain knows
what I want, but this song is not there yet. I'll persevere.
