Description:
A guitar arrangement of the early jazz piece 'Jazz Me Blues'. I made this arrangement long ago - about 35 years. All I had was my childhood memory of the old 78 record, so I don't know how true this arrangement is to the original tune.
The tune was made by a Tom Delaney and it is in the public domain due to age. Earliest recordings are from somewhere between 1911 and 1920.

Making MY DAY, Brother &mdash 02/06/06 - 08:45:01 AM
[NEVER a Dull Moment with You!]
It's a Monday morning, over here, and I'm packing for a Move (true
druggery) BUT, Now "Jazz Me" has Come Along. I'm setting it to Play at
every Third spot in the Playlist. I do believe I'm going to Make it
through the Day, Now.
Thanks, Curry!
Best Personal Regards,
rtc
PS I'll be back to Crit, just wanted you to know What a Boost your

Wow. An expert performance of your interpretation of a distant
memory. Amazing how a song can permanently etch itself into one's
memory. The reproduction quality is excellent. You are inspiring me to
practice guitar even harder than before. Thank you, Johannes. [ Reply to This ]

Yes Richard, I know what you mean. Some musical pieces like never leaves.
Neither the love for them... [ Reply to This ]
I enjoy always... &mdash 02/06/06 - 10:12:02 AM
your guitar playing and this upbeat ditty is a happy tune to
start the day off with. You are one amazing guitarist..
This feels like it is right out of that early 1900's. If you add
some vinyl record scratches in the audio, it would be as if
this was the reocrding from that old 78 rpm.
And I love that ending!

Haha, yes it would be interesting to hear it with some 78rpm scratch, (wish I
had a turntable that could do 78:s ... still have the whole collection of records
that I use to play over and over as a child). [ Reply to This ]
Well done &mdash 02/06/06 - 11:13:50 AM
Great performance, perfectly recorded. A lot of presence in the guitar. I
love that songs like this are still being played! [ Reply to This ]

And how does one remain surprised at the reaction that this kind of
playing emotes... That in itself is a gift of a humbled man...

There goes that foot again! &mdash 02/06/06 - 11:37:42 AM
My foot just can't stop tapping when I hear you play Curry. This cut
somehow seemed cleaner than the last cut of "Jazz Me Blues". Your
playing was still unbelievably fantastic, but perhaps YOU felt more
comfortable with it. Anyway, it was a joy to listen to again.
And, yes, you've inspired me to continue practicing also.
God bless,
Rick

Very nice playing. reminds me of Laurence Juper. I am always jealous when I hear people playing such beautiful guitar licks. Its an amazing talent, and you are very skilled in this craft. Its a good tune as well, I had never heard it before, so thats a nother plus! Bringing new music to my ears...awww...gotta love it :) [ Reply to This ]

Welcome to MacJams Thornberry! Nice to have you listening, and thank you very
much for your comment. (I went to your site and listened to one of your tunes.
And that was very nice music in deed!) [ Reply to This ]
You really nailed it this time, Curry... &mdash 02/07/06 - 06:52:07 AM
You capture the innate sprightliness of the tune, with great time and
great tone, including the sparkly treble, without sounding like you're
working it through as an intellectual exercise...
You let the tune have its own natural musicality...
So it ends up sounding like MUSIC, and not archaeology...
Gotta go get the iPod, so this one can travel to work with me...
Great recording, too...

Ed, since you have been around quite a while now and written almost a
thousand well formulated and well thought out comments. Now I want to say
a few words about them.
First, you comments are allways very kind and respectful. I have never seen a
comment from you that hurts.
Also your observations are never shallow or superficial, but rather deep and
knowledgeable. To me your comments allways adds a lot that I have NEVER
thought of before you said it. It seems to me that you put a great deal of
work and consideration into every one of them. (Sometimes I have wondered
how you get time to make a living besides).
Thanks a lot for being around Ed! I am proud to count you as a MacJammers
friend of mine!

the "Curry Secret" &mdash 02/08/06 - 02:12:24 AM
Thanks for this one Curry - you know how much I like what you do -
this is another one for my favourites and download. I guess now we
know part of the "Curry Secret" (apart from using the right spices!) -
you arranged this 33 years ago! That's a lot of practice hours I'm sure.
It rolls, it laughs, it wants to be friends - love it! Lovely recording as
well btw!

Great Tune &mdash 02/08/06 - 12:04:14 PM
You have some serious chops on guitar there. I love this tune. It harkens
back to a time less cynical and far more optomistic, You can hear the
Ragtime influenec that was prominet in the era this was originally
recorded. I have some old Lonnie Johnson records that sound a lot like
this. Great arrangment of a cool old tune. [ Reply to This ]

I'm a Lyrics Whore. I love to hear stories and I usually don't listen to a
whole lot of instrumentals... having said that. I'm downloading this
amazing wonder right now! I love it! My head is bopping to the beat. How
often does that happen? Wow! [ Reply to This ]
Great Playing! &mdash 02/10/06 - 02:23:45 PM
I've been playing guitar for 20 years but don't have a grasp on this style of
playing. Beautifully performed and captured.
I'm creating a playlist in iTunes of my favourite macjammer's acoustic
songs... this one's in it now.

beautiful &mdash 02/26/06 - 03:16:46 PM
Beautiful job, Johannes! I liked the old version too; I'd have to A/B them
to see what the differences are, but this is played with elegance, style,
and feeling. Lots of subtleties too; I like the dynamic contrasts.
I really enjoy your playing. I'm a guitarist too. I'm going to
check out some more of your things.
Cheers! [ Reply to This ]
