terrific &mdash 02/12/06 - 04:41:23 PM
Kind of funny, I can almost here Joanna singing her Juilie London style
with this fantasticly laid back dinner jazz tune.

Classy!

Steely Dan changes &mdash 02/13/06 - 04:53:24 PM
Not your "boiler-plate" dinner jazz. Traces af Donald Fagan's chord
changes. This has the makings of a Dan tune. Sorry I keep harping on SD,
but this has the feel of their last two CDs. Good stuff, John.

How can you say this is latin &mdash 02/15/06 - 03:50:26 PM
if the drummer doesn't use cross-sticking?

Seriously, this is very smooth and quite enjoyable, but I'm not quite sure
why you called it latin.

How can you say this is latin &mdash 02/15/06 - 06:51:12 PM
Well, I'll show my cards, and let you know that I'm no expert when it comes to
categories like this. I do know that it's a straight rhythm, not like a jazz
swing, so it's at least closer to latin than it is to swing. As far as cross-
sticking, or other drum techniques, I am not knowledgable about those
things. So it sounds like you know your drumming, and if you say this is not
a Latin drum feel, I'll take your word for it.

But I'm glad you found it enjoyable, and thanks for the kind words.

when my folks tried to get me to learn piano. this is superb. very
tasteful and laid back. I too hear the steely dan changes and maybe
some joe sample stylings. you are a talent, john. I assume you do this
professionally. I'm going to check out the CD. thanks for posting this

Thanks, Karm, for your kind words. Semi-professionally, actually. My main
job is teaching public school kids music.

Thanks for checking out my CD.

Sweet is the word. Hints of early Ahmad Jamal and Jobim. You have a knack for writing in this genre. I hope to hear more

Fun piece! &mdash 10/25/07 - 02:50:44 PM
I also hear some Vince Guaraldi in here as well as the references other commenters have suggested. Very nicely constructed and performed.

Thanks John,
Keep well,
Doug
