Lyrics:
My funny Valentine,Sweet comic Valentine,
You make me smile with my heart.
Your looks are laughable, unphotographable
Yet, you're my favourite work of art
Is your figure less than Greek
Is your mouth a little weak,
When you open it to speak,
Are you smart?
But don't change your hair for me
Not if you care for me
Stay little Valentine, stay...
Each day is Valentine's Day

I just got here and this was the first song I listened to.
I thought it was great!!!
The Composer
Not a bad rendition of this jazz tune at all. Quite nicely orchestrated...
and the majority of the sounds sound quite real (I'm assuming they're
not live though since you're using GB). This would've been a lovely
track to have a live drummer playing on as theres some lovely things
you can do with brushes that keep everything quite subtle and sparse,
but fill up the space quite nicely... as the drums in this have far too
much space in them and the reverb just added to that. Thats pretty
much the only critisism really, at times it just became to spacious and
just a little empty. Great singing from Caroline of course and nice to
hear you back on the scene again Alfalpha.

as soon as i heard "my" i knew this was going to be perfect! caroline:
your voice is perfect for this!
wow! trumpet's very cool. the whole arrangement's great - love the bass.
i'll be ya'll's funny valentine. or not so funny.
Cameron
Very nice arrangement and vocal rendition of this classic, alfalpha!
Good combination and balance of strings, bass and the brass stabs, although I would like to hear the entire accompaniment a bit more prominently in the mix -- it sounds rather far away compared to the vox.
Caroline, your voice is really shining these days! It is showcased very well in this song. No-one has a voice exactly like you -- and I mean that in the most positive way! ; )
You two should team up for a torch song album like Joni Mitchell's -- this arrangement reminds me of "Both Sides Now".
drakonis
How fun! Besides the fact that I connect with the lyrics ("Each day is
Valentine's Day")... Caroline, your singing was great, and Alfalpha's
arrangement was wonderful and clear. I might have toned the violins
down a tad, and brought the bass up a bit, but overall, sweet stuff!
ttfn,

Wow. Really liked the horns and string arangements. It would be interesting to hear some more activity with the drums.
You have a powerful voice fit well to this loveli song
I am moved.
Thanks Caroline

Very nice orchestration - really smooth and warm, but I agree with The
Composer about the drums.
Caroline, you really sound great in this! Really!
Great work, the both of you!
screamalexz
i like the vocal style, it fits the lyrics well. a nice piece.
alfalpha
....cheers people! and all advice has been taken on board.
It seems to me that the major issue is with the drums...(funny that, my
wife said the same thing prior to posting) LOL!!!! (I also thought some
more brush work was in order, however, I wanted to submit within 24
hours of Caroline sending her vocals over to me....ichat over night
from the UK to Australia-don't you LOVE technology?)
Well, if Caroline is happy, I'll will resubmit after spending some time on
a 'remix' of sorts...
Again, many thanks guys.....I'm really lucky that Caroline was happy to
collab on this one...
caroline
go for it - like i said, you're the boss - happy?? i'm ecstatic!!

arrangement is wonderful. Very jazzy and bluesy all at the sametime.
Nice work, both of you.-JAC

Oh, this is great. Wonderful performance and arrangement. You give this
a very classy touch. You make it sound like a track from a James Bond
film soundtrack. Very nice job all around, Caroline.
SlimGirlFat
Wonderful.
I agree with Peter, this has a very James Bond feel about it.
I love the way you sing this. I think you should sing more in this style, it
suits your voice perfectly. The accompanying music is wonderful, simple
and yet perfect!
Excellent

… the next James Bond theme with alfalpha. A lovely song and this
is a fine rendition. I particularly love that trumpet but that's my
brass past coming back to haunt me… I don't play any more but
sometimes wish I did. Thanks for posting, you two. How about
doing a version of 'Easter Bonnet' in a couple of months' time?
caroline
hey alf - how about it??? songs for the seasons - title of the first album!!! xox thank you soo much for the suggestion eps xoxo

These comparisons are a real compliment, I'm a major John Barry fan!
However, guys, when I heard Caroline's rendition, I actually thought of Shirley
Bassey!!!
Cheers to All!!!

the best I've heard you sing Caro. Nice arrangement of a classic. Very
classy.

Hmmm...Was that really you, Caroline, or some lounge singer in a smoky
pub? The smoky voice is sultry! nice understated arrangement...suits the
mood quite well.. This is a revelation.

I have downloaded and will enjoy many times.
Thanks to two of my favourite macjammers!
Excellent work - singing is wonderful and the arrangement strong but at
the same time unobtrusive so the focus is on the vocals.

This is great guys. Have you heard Elvis Costello doing this? My Dad's been trying to get me to learn this for years now. The chords are diabolical though.
Very nice work. The instrumentantion matches Carloine's vocals perfectly. Well done.
