Description:
This song was recorded in the spring of 1994. I remember it was right around the time that Pres. Nixon died. In this song, I am not playing the guitar. A friend of mine came up with the repetetive guitar rif and I wrote the lyrics and sang. Back then, this was all recorded with home stero regular TDK cassett tapes. One problem we encountered was that after a minute or so of playing, my friend's fingers would get tired and he'd completely mess up. So I have 3 separate splices going on here. This would have been much better if I'd had a computer at the time. But first I recorded him playiing guitar and told him to play till he gave out. The first splice takes place at about 1:03 into the song and you nearly cannot tell. This was old school splicing where all I had was a Radio Shack mixer and I simply pointed to my friend and told him when to start playing along side his recorded guitar, which I then blended on the fly. However he gave out again, and broke a string. We did not have enough to finish the song. We retuned the guitar down and worked with 5 strings instead. We were in a rush. I played back the two-guitar splice and sang to it while recording the vocal. I then pointed to my friend to start playing again. You can definitely hear this splice at 2:13 into the song because the guitar changes tune, and is lower... but somehow I always liked how it came out. Also... another problem. I didn't have any lyrics written for anything that point forward. At this point I was recording, he was playing, and I was singing live to his playing. I was also making up the words as I sang. It was hurried and rushed. But it was fun to do. However, I much prefer just working alone. :)
