Description:
Another oldie but sort of a goodie. This was another one of mine from 1994. This one is me playing guitar and singing. it was recorded with home casette tape, and was one of the first songs I wrote and played that was worth a darn.

Well done &mdash 02/18/06 - 10:50:03 PM
Great sound for a cassette recorder. You have a nice variety of sound. I
like this cut a lot and am glad you made the participation points list or I
doubt I'd have ever heard it. Off to listen to your other tracks.

i tried recording with a cassete tape once, for a little kids parade. i like your voice very john lennon sounding. you should post the lyrics, i like this. really liking your voice.

Very nice work - such a daydreamy 60's vibe. I agree, nice job with the tape.

New Lennon &mdash 02/20/06 - 09:08:05 AM
Yeah, i see what they are talking about. You do kind of sound like
Lennon. I really like the lo-fi, tape recorder feel. it makes it seem like the
song is seriously from the beatles era.

there's definitely that 60s thing going on. i often receive the Lennon
comment on my own voice, so i totally hear it in yours as well. it's a
good thing.

this is a lovely piece in its simplicity. it's very catchy and the words are
key. musically it plugs along at a nice, even pace.

the thing with cassette oldies, is that they are your songs. while they
still sound good to you, to the listener they sound like they are from an
old cassette.

i offer you the friendly challenge of slowing this song down and re-
recording it again digitally - make a cover of your own song!

i would *love* to hear what you could do with this song, knowing what
you know now and the way life has driven you since you recorded it
last.

again, it's a friendly challenge. i'm happy to have heard this one! peace!

That's a good challenge. I posted a lot of old songs here on MacJams that I recorded back in the mid 90's with junk equipment. The purpose for me doing so was not to showcase the technical artistry of the recording quality at that time..... or even my limited talent..... but just to see if any of the songs sparked any reactions with anyone to where I might want to "rework" some of my old songs. In the case of this particular song... it is 12yrs old now. I was only 20yrs old when I wrote it and recorded it. A lot has changed in that time period. In that time, I've graduated college, got married, got a good job, bought a house, had a child who is now 3yrs old, and now I have a divorce that will be complete in about a week or two (2005 was a long year).
Plus now I can record direct to the computer. I have better mics, and I just got a keyboard for valentine's day. And I might even play better now too.
The thing is.... I have about 60 or so songs "in the hopper" that I recorded demo versions of back in 2004 that I am trying to flesh out into real songs. My divorce has not always provided me with a lot of time to do recordings in the past year.... But I have a lot of songs noodling around in my head, and in demo version (no real lyrics), just so I can "remember" them. Maybe I will try to re-do this particular song.
Honestly though... I think in terms of song writing and in terms of it as a "song" that this particular song is not what I would call the best of my bunch. If you get a chance to listen to any of my other old songs, I'd appreciate any feedback you might have if you think any have "potential".
My newer stuff is the stuff recorded in 2005.
