Description:
##########THE NEW ALBUM IS FINISHED.#############
THIS IS NOT THE FINAL RELEASED VERSION OF THE TRACK.
#############################################
VISIT http//we/...
-------------------------------------------
Hard to place this one in a genre but it's Rock at heart.
This is a tune about an acient super-volcano in West Texas, a massive caldera named The Solitario. I recently spent some time camping in it.
I'm generally happy with the track but I'm sure that more finessing will produce a better version in the future.
(no loops)
Lyrics:
In the desert sand a gaping yawn
a scar in the land eight miles long
The caldera reeks of ancient fire
Welcome to the defunct gates of hell
Welcome
Welcome
The sea wash in the sea wash out
The blister rises and then blows out
When the harmony's right the earth will bless us with holy fire
The caldera sinks to depths unknown
Over the edge
Welcome
Welcome
Welcome
Welcome to the Solitario
In the Solitario that yawn will eat you whole
In the Solitario
Go in alone x4
to the Solitario x2
Upthrust shattered and twisted fossil rock
you find your way through the deep tenajas
to the cottonwood where the water's found
The sea wash in the sea wash out
The blister rises and then blows out
Now it's the Solitario
Solitario x4
Go in alone
Go in alone to the Solitario
The sea wash in the sea wash out
The blister rises and then blows out
In the Solitario
that gaping yawn will swallow you whole

So this is where Troy went? Peter, you're off in wild directions, and you
always do a great job wherever you go. Definitely has a wacky off-kilter
desert caldera feel. My only suggestion might be to have occasional
wind-sweep sounds, or add an occasional long-echo on some low
percussion to give a large rumbling feel, the orchestration, although
quirky-good, felt wanting in the big-boomy-bass department for such a
big subject. Loved your harmonies and singing.

Thanks, Drak. I did put in some deep freaky rumbling sounds at key points and
echo in places. Perhaps not as much as you are thinking of though. I not sure
how much more boomy bass I could put in there before blowing out my sub-
woofer. There might be a band of frequency left that could yet be thumped, or
padded.
Troy might know the place. He's photographed around that region before. It's
been too long since we heard from that guy.

Very Good &mdash 02/20/06 - 04:46:09 PM
Very decriptive, picturesque lyrics, music industrial by way of Devo and
Wall of Voodoo (at first w/o reading the desciption I thought this may
have been a collab with Troy).
I guess the one thing I was slightly disappointed in (and this is my wish/
expectation, not a judgment on what you have done) is that I was hoping
to have more variation in the music soundbed at some point before the
end. The bg vocals at the end were a very enjoyable touch.
If you do work on this some more, I look forward to hearing it [ Reply to This ]

LOL. I now read drakonis's comments now that I've posted mine. Do you have
Troy locked up somewhere? ;)

Thanks, man. Funny, after I finished it I thought "This is something I think Troy
would like".
Adding a more melodically deviant section/bridge into there is something I'll
tackle on a next version of this.

Man, Peter... &mdash 02/20/06 - 05:18:31 PM
I love your vocals. I say "vocals" rather than "singing" just because there's
a combination of the voice you have and the songs you write and the way
you phrase and sing and the way you then process the results that I just
really enjoy...
And your lyrics are NEVER trite, always fresh and unusual...
Myself, I may go my whole lifetime and never get around to writing a tune
to a volcanic caldera...

Man, Peter... &mdash 02/20/06 - 10:28:16 PM
Thanks, Ejh. If my voice is feeling up to it I may add some touches of my high
Eastern-style singing in there like I used in "No Matter The Weather" and
"Whisper Evermore".
There's something inspiring about an explosive erruption almost six miles
across in the crater, displacing some 50 times the mass of the Mt St Helens
erruption. They may call it The Solitario now but if anyone could have seen it 35
milion years ago when it blew they would have called it something like "The Fist
of God".

Nice and different &mdash 02/20/06 - 05:46:25 PM
first thing- Love that bass line and the sound. Interesting vocal from you
and one that shows your range pretty well... especially the lower register.
The JP sounds were cool and gave the song a unique feel.
I'd like to hear this with some well placed overdriven guitar. Solid tune,

Nice and different &mdash 02/20/06 - 10:32:11 PM
Thanks, AC. I actually experimented with some driven electric guitar but it just
mushed it up too much. Instead, I went with a sliding single note part that I
processed to the point of making it sound almost synth-like.

Love that voice! &mdash 02/20/06 - 10:12:04 PM
A new direction Peter? Voice still works fine obviously - such an
original feel - and the lyrics paint a real picture . Doing a song with so
little in the way of melodic instruments must have been quite a
challenge, and you seem to have pulled it off. Perhaps not as readily
accessible as some of your earlier work, but wonderfully new sounding.
Thanks,

Love that voice! &mdash 02/20/06 - 10:37:24 PM
Thanks, jiguma. I'm always moving in different directions. I got a kick out of
doing this but I would like to return to the more melodic zone when I get the
right inspiration. I have a couple in the works but stalled due to too much
personal stagnation. The trip to The Solitario was a good jolt though.

Wow. What a trip. Like investigating ancient ruins whilst under the
influence of some hallucinagen. I couldn't possibly classify this. But I like
it a lot. [ Reply to This ]

think I like this the way it is... but I need to listen a few more times... [ Reply to This ]
Umm &mdash 02/21/06 - 04:33:28 PM
At some point I feel kinda silly saying things like, "nice song Peter;
what a great singing voice and how about: your lyrics are uniquely you,
and w/ such high substantive qualities.... - Very rich."
Well why else would you do this if it wern't that you were in somewhat
of a quest for it, one might ask. Maybe it's quite possible that you
should know these things and you'd just like to share... There's
absolutely nothing wrong w/ that Peter - as you are always gracious w/
your acceptence of them. And yes it is true, that all of the superlatives
that anyone can muster up to share w/ you and about your music, you
deserve to here them over and over again...
And thanks for sharing. Dion [ Reply to This ]

Dion, it's always a pleasure to get a comment from you. Thanks. I know how
sometime it can be difficult to come up with a comment that seems fresh. Need
a thesaurus sometimes. But you always say something thoughtful.

Very cool imagery - I agree w/ the Troy tie-in comments.

Warrior &mdash 02/21/06 - 09:30:03 PM
Sounds like the ancient warriors are beating on some alien bongos. Has a nice trance to it. I can see Billy Idol up front on vocals. This is quiet the treat. Did you create any of these loops while you were camping? Thanks for sharing. This is definitely original.

Warrior &mdash 02/21/06 - 09:42:55 PM
Thanks, Tex. No, I didn't record anything while out in the hole. It's about 100
miles or so from the nearest power plug. The only part that is looped anyway is
the main percussion that I wrote.

Description &mdash 02/22/06 - 11:50:57 AM
Solitario sounds like new wave/ David Bowie. For me, this is a good thing.
I thought that the vocals came off really well and they blend so smoothly
with the music which has a very catchy sound. There is some good
intergration of music and lyrics going on here. Question, what is an
Art Tube PAC ? [ Reply to This ]
Description &mdash 02/22/06 - 11:56:46 AM
Thanks, industria. An ART TUBE Preamp/Compressor (PAC). I run my mic
through it. It gives me amplification and compression using tubes rather than
circuit boards with transistors and chips. Warmer richer sound.

I'm new here and I don't know exactly how all of this works so, forgive me. I
really did like your song and how it worked. To me, for someone to go to a place
and represent it so well in a musical sense and with such vocals is just what I
admire. I don't know how to hear other stuff that you have but if this is
representitive, then it must be good. Before it is over, I will figure my way
around here. I'll start by clicking on the Something thing. Good luck! [ Reply to This ]

Cool &mdash 02/26/06 - 09:34:07 PM
I want the energy and the intensity kicked up a notch, but otherwise a
nice cut. I love calderas.
This song could be a Gravity Kills song easy. Could be a NIN song with a
bit of rewriting. Sell sell sell!
Well done. Problem is, can't work out to it, can't read to it. Either mellow it
out, or bring it to the top. Me, I'd make it harder. [ Reply to This ]
Original &mdash 03/01/06 - 03:38:27 PM
There's no denying that.
I kinda agree with cjorgensen about kicking it up a notch - I could hear
the volcano rumbling, but it never erupted.
I did like this, though. Very nice vocal work and your lyrics are really
interesting.
Very nice work. [ Reply to This ]

i'm feelin cjorg as well.. i definitely wanted the gits to take off at some
point. could this thing have a bridge somewhere to break it up? einarus'
rumbling idea makes a whole lot of sense & gives you a real reason to
make some nasty-sounding stuff to compliment the weirdness, i think.
so.. can i still like it? [ Reply to This ]
Get Weirder! &mdash 03/20/06 - 11:00:08 PM
Yeah, sounds like something I'd do alright. It's the trebbly bass and fast
saw filter guitar. I've used those a lot.
Lotsa fun, lotsa potential.
And no, never been tot he Solitario. Bee to Ubehebe though. Is that close
enough? [ Reply to This ]
Very cool! &mdash 11/11/06 - 12:40:58 PM
This is just addicting to listen to. Your voice reminds me of Peter Murphy, as do your lyrics. I mean that as a very good thing. Thanks for the excellent tune. [ Reply to This ]
