Description:
Presenting our first song to MacJams.com, layered with strummed acoustic guitars, percolating keyboards, a vigorously shaken tambourine, and a sincere lead vocal as the icing on the cake.

Let us know what you think!

Lyrics:
today i sail away
no one here will make me pay
my "friends" all turn beside me
dont need them with me in my key

waves come in and times keep changing
why are we still hesitating
no man is an island cant you see?
it happened to me

and as time ticks away
one thing still ive got to say
got to get my life back on track
turn around, turn away, please just come back

waves come in and times keep changing
why are we still hesitating
no man is an island cant you see?
it happened to me
can you hear me...hear me...hear me...me???

(bridge)

sitting here a new man reborn
need to pick a rose with no thorn
this rose will help me mend all
please just answer to my last call

waves come in and times keep changing
why are we still hesitating
no man is an island cant you see?
it happened to me
can you hear me...hear me...hear me...me???

Great initial post. &mdash 02/21/06 - 12:52:41 PM
Reminds me a bit of the Washington Squares. Nice arrangement. Vocal
harmonies are lovely. Nice organ in mid-section. Bass lines are good, but
a bit far back in the mix. Great ambience on the lead solo.

Beautiful song. &mdash 02/22/06 - 01:39:28 AM
The production needs help, though. It's kind of flat and muddy; the vocals should pop out more and the instruments should be cleaner. Unfortunately I can't offer any concrete suggestions as mixing is far from my area of expertise, but surely someone else around here can. Also I would be a little more careful keeping the vocals and the instruments together on the beat. This sounds like the demo version of a potentially great song, and I look forward to what else you have to offer!

Beautiful song. &mdash 02/22/06 - 06:20:25 PM
I totally agree with what you are saying on this!

this was our first try at this song and since then we have made a newer verson in a new key. it sounds slightly happier and hopefully better overall.

Good song &mdash 03/12/06 - 11:56:13 AM
Again, the production could use a little help -- maybe a bit more top end and/or compression would bring out the tambourine and sharpen the lead vocal. That being said, I really liked the guitar solo at the end, as well as the introspective lyrics. Nice job!

great start! &mdash 09/10/06 - 09:04:56 PM
I know I mentioned the details in chat, but I'll just say again, this is a
great start and I do love the vocal harmonies. Get your recording up to
par, tweak some levels and you've got yourself a poptastic hit!

thoughts from the bull... &mdash 09/10/06 - 09:06:18 PM
glad i bumped into you in the chat.

this is a very well structured and sounding piece. the production
quality is fairly low, which in an intentional instance works really well.
meaning, when put together in a collection of similar sounding songs,
would be wonderful.

however, if your intent is to boost the sound quality, then additional
production time in Garageband would really work wonders.

for example, playing around with the EQ settings or the Gate might
open up some options for you. i don't know.

for me, the song was very natural and produced an organic landscape
that i enjoy. it was fairly raw but had the finished feel of a much older,
1960's style recording, say The Beach Boys or Syd Barrett.

Good stuff and i'm looking forward to more!

GREAT SONG &mdash 09/10/06 - 09:14:28 PM
Work on the production and mixing! Bring up the vox! This has potential! Do another take of the vocals with more confidence! Reminds me of some Beach Boys flavor! Very good man!

Cool Tune &mdash 09/16/06 - 06:46:12 PM
First the song has a nice feel and structure. Good flow and some really
nice parts. Next I think where you can make the greatest improvement is
in the production side. With some extra time this gem can be polished.

the vocals &mdash 09/28/06 - 09:27:08 AM
and harmony are key to this song I understand why everyone tells you to
mix it better, but i think it is realy good like this it has the feel of vinyl
good song

Low-Fi Fun &mdash 10/02/06 - 04:37:41 PM
I agree w/ Boris if it was intentional and had similiar songs on an album it
would be cool. I like the melody and Organ reminds one of the early
seventies, good stuff

Welcome to MacJams! &mdash 10/07/06 - 11:32:45 PM
It sounds to me like you have an excellent song, good vocals and
playing let down by a less than average production. We've all been
there, and the good news is that it's much easier to fix the production
than all the other stuff. I think the first thing I'd be doing is boosting
the volume then making the various tracks stand out more (without
clipping any instruments of course) using a combination of EQ, filters
and compression. Very Beach Boys sound to me. I noticed you've
uploaded a stack of songs together - maybe leaving more time
between songs would be better so people get a chance to digest them
one at a time - there's an awful lot of music arrives new every day, and
I for one don't get to listen to most of it.
Excellent starting point!
Neil

A very nice song. Besides being a fair composition it has a very good and
warm feel.

great song writing.. &mdash 02/02/07 - 10:44:07 PM
...technique. I am reminded of bands from the 60's. I noticed some comments about the production, but, you know I think this production is perfect for this type of song...kinda early Beachboys methinks!
Terrific first upload....you are very talented!
Thank Your!
