Description:
"Ellipses" began as a single, simple bass line, but soon snowballed into something much larger, which I consider to be my first real "mature" work, dealing with everything from the initial syncopation to the final harmony.

Lucas this is a fine piece of work. I love the gradual build-up over the cool
bass line. Great choice of instruments. Fine playing. It's like classical Jazz.
I like this a lot. I'm glad you're on board at MacJammers.

Ellipses and circles and other shapes you conjure... &mdash 03/23/06 - 11:03:15 PM
Love the staccato strings... like pulses of energy emanating from the
melody vine. Has a little bit of eastern music feel to it. With a more rapid
drum rhythm to it, i can picture this as a background music in a scene in
an epic movie...

Great start! You have great musical sense and very comfortable and
adept in experimenting with unconventional instruments, which is not at
all surprising considering your awesome musical background.

Medieval &mdash 05/20/06 - 04:07:51 PM
Sounds vaguely medieval at the beginning, with all those parallel fifths in
the two low (cellos? sackbuts? can't really tell!) instruments. Nice
syncopations, rhythmic vitality!

More, please!

It actually started as some quasi-gregorian chant, which I then developed contrapuntally, so that medieval thing you hear is definitely on the money. Thanks for the comment. I hope to post more music soon.

Ah, that explains it! Just had another listen, and wanted to add that the layering
process you use is done extremely well; every time another line is layered on top
of the previous one(s), it fits beautifully, and adds another dimension of interest.
Very clever.
