Keywords:
IDM (26)Nindento (1)8-bit (7)
Description:
Atmospheric downtempo IDM in 7, with some glitch and drum n' bass elements adding a little grit and drive (and of course the usual amount of Nintendo-ish square wave blippyness). Fun with synthesizers!

There's just something about waveforms you can draw with a straightedge...

Mac G4

Very nice textures, though for me some sounds are too synthetic (like the nintendo sound for instance), but I suppose you wanted it like that, so that's only an opinion of me personally. I would also have toned down the drums quite a bit...

I don't like the synth you use in the background. It sounds rather cheap to me; a bad mental association, I think.

I would prefer it faster, since I have a short attention span.

I think the square wave noises are great. Very aurally pleasing, they are, as well as the static quips near the beginning.

i dont think there's anything wrong with the synth sound. i like the slow tempo, it would work well for a fantasy game, this type of music is good for sleeping, actually.. im going to download this, and start making a play list to sleep to. i like the rather nintendo sounding break.

You definitely have... &mdash 02/25/06 - 09:25:53 AM
a good thing going on here. Having listened to most of your library,
and I don't think people get what it is you are trying to do. I don't think
people under stand minimalist techno/electropop. 4-bit music box is
such a great tune, yet it has such a crappy rating.

With that said, this reminded me of Figurine. Not
"Transformation Communication=Love", but their more mature
sounding "the heartfelt" album. This is probably my favourite track of
yours yet. Thanks for sharing! :)

Thanks for the comments... glad you enjoyed it. I just picked up "the Heartfelt"
and am giving it a listen as I write... thanks for the tip :)

beautiful and moving &mdash 04/28/06 - 10:22:39 PM
Wow, this is great! You've made such an emotional, deep piece out of
such simple and unnatural parts. It's a little sad yet hopeful, like a
character in a story finding his groove. You used just the right touches
on this to present this melody. It stands very well on its own but I can
imagine it working wonderfully in a film soundtrack.

This is great... pummeling beats and dainty beeps with a great
melody. A tight package. I'm loving it.

Fun chords, and crystal-clear square waves, chopped & grated with beats
of distortia. Reminds me of what would be quivering and sparking on the
ground if you hosed down the old Disney Electric Street Parade with a fire
hose. Remarkably catchy sounds.

i think you have a wonderful grasp of melody, and i really appreciate what
you are going after with your work.

the beat could be bigger- to match the wonderful atmosphere you build
with your synths.

i'm very happy, again, with your choice of sounds. there is nothing more
touching to me than the sense of emotion pouring forth from something
anemotive. and this is beautiful and completely cold at once- excellent.

Fairly cool &mdash 05/03/06 - 02:56:24 PM
but I would have put some more bottom behind those drums. They kick pretty well but they sound kind of skinny. Since you're definitely wanting to put some beef on those sections, I wouldn't hold anything back. The synth sounds are cool and I don't know if you were trying to make a synthetic cowbell but it was cool in any case.

in a chilled sense. Pretty nice tune, and the 7 is not jarring at all. Eh, until the big drums come in. They are a bit too upfront for me. The synth sounds are cool, though.
