Description:
When I was trying to decide if I should get Jam Pack 5, I tried to find sample songs to help me make my decision. The ones on the Apple site only showcase one loop song and I was most interested in hearing the loops available, since I just barely fumbler around the keyboard.
I was frustrated in my search, so I decided to get it anyway, based on the rave reviews I'd read and, boy, am I happy with this Jam Pack. It's worth the purchase for the percussion loops alone.
So, since I was frustrated in my loop song demo search, I thought other people might have the same interest in hearing an example. This song is all loops, except for the African choir which I played (the oohs). I deliberately didn't alter the loops at all, because I'm posting this mostly as a way for other "loopers" to get a chance to hear some of what's available.
I had originally planned to try and include a loop from every country represented in the Jam Pack and that quickly became impossible. This song doesn't even scratch the surface of what's available and the pack has more than 3000 loops. In my opinion, the software instruments sound even more realistic than the ones in Jam Pack 4, which is saying a lot.
I hope you enjoy this little sample. I had a blast making it.

well, I got a bit dissapointed, cause I was expecting to get to hear the lovely vocals from ledebutant:)
But thanks for making this demo. The loops sounds great. Its amazing what apple has brought us for a cost most people can afford.
Hope to hear something based on these loops with your vox on sooooooon Lisa:) [ Reply to This ]

Thor, strangely, I felt guilty for not singing on this, especially since I couldn't
get the timing right on some of the ooh's and could have done them myself.
Wacky, I know, but true. :-) [ Reply to This ]

And I AM sitting here thinking about getting the World pack, and this IS
helpful... So thank you for making a "demo" that's so fun to listen to...
I will now sit and wait for your next "real" song....

You know, Ed, I think it's very sad that you're not in charge of handing out
money for Apple. Consider a career change?
I'd love to hear what you'd do with this JP. Also, when are we going to get a
new song from you? Get jamming! [ Reply to This ]

writing down titles again...
Now just a little free time with me well rested...

Wow &mdash 02/25/06 - 06:51:35 PM
Great assemblage of loops. This makes me want JP5. The vocal loops are great, I love that kind of singing. Lots of good choices made in this song. [ Reply to This ]
Wow &mdash 02/26/06 - 03:36:14 PM
Thanks, David. The vocal loops are very cool, unfortunately the quantity is
fairly limited, which means that they will be used to death, probably. This was
interesting for me to experiment with though, because I could see that vocals
enriched this song and might be something for me to try to dig up, a vocal
loops collection so that I could have backup singers that aren't me,
sometimes.
The African choirs are VERY useful, though, and much more flexible than the
loops. [ Reply to This ]
Some demo! &mdash 02/26/06 - 12:01:17 AM
What an interesting and evocative assemblage of loops. JP5 now on my
must get list. Also want to look at some of your other work. Thanks for

This is a truly wonderful mix of worldy/ethnic loops and I really enjoyed your interpretation.
East meets West in the best possible taste.
Thanks.

Worldly wonderful &mdash 02/26/06 - 03:55:26 PM
Thanks so much, R, for saying that you thought the East meets West was
okay. I wondered if that would be dizzy-inducing. What I found when I was
using these loops, was that music from different cultures often blends very
well together, especially the percussion. A very nice surprise for me. [ Reply to This ]

Thanks Adam. I have to admit the "fun" part had as much to do with it as the
"nice" part. It's fun to try and get some of the rest of the gang to shell out for
the JP, as well. [ Reply to This ]
ooops! &mdash 02/26/06 - 08:02:20 AM
I have Jampack 5 and didn't even load the loops (because they take up
so much space). Maybe I made a mistake? They sound great, original,
unfamiliar, un-loop-like. [ Reply to This ]
ooops! &mdash 02/26/06 - 04:13:47 PM
Do they sound almost as if they come from another land... ;-)
What I found very nice about the loops was that they give access to a whole
assortment of instruments other than the software instruments. I also think
that percussion loops tend to sound the least "loopy" of all, especially if
they're used appropriately and this JP is rich, rich I tell you! in percussion
options. I'd really, really like to hear what you'd come up with, mixing loops
and your fabulous ability with real instruments. [ Reply to This ]

You may have just covinced me Lisa. It sounds like you've taken that loop asignment that you spoke of and you made it REAL. Facinating journey you just guided us through. Nice TRIP... Very nice - If I weren't so impressed and happy for you, I might be jealous that I didn't do this first. But I'm all grown up now...

Babycakes, I had you, David and Mr. Estate in mind when I created this. There
may have been some ulterior motive action going on. I would be thrilled to
see what you come up with using this JP. It's truly amazing and, man oh man
do the drums kick!
By the way, I'm not fooling myself, what you create will make this song look
as though a team of very quiet nuns created it.
BUY IT!

Yeah &mdash 03/01/06 - 08:57:39 PM
Sounds good and very un-loopy (perhaps in part because we just haven't
been exposed to these loops like we have been with the original {gulp} GB
loops).
Have you played around with the software instruments at all? Do they
sound authentic enough?
Great job of mixing by the way! [ Reply to This ]
Very Cool ! &mdash 03/10/06 - 11:16:00 AM
Once again, great job. You are the loop master ! Or is it just plain loopy lol. Just kidding. I love how this song builds and how you introduce differen't instruments along the timeline. I wish I had 1/10 or your arranging skills. I have a few tunes I'm working on using loops, but so far they sound too generic. Especially when compared to yours. Great Tune Lisa. [ Reply to This ]

Apple should pay you some money for promoting the Jam Pack.
Great arrangement of loops. The starts and stops kept it all very
interesting as well as the percussion.

Ethnically Pleasing! &mdash 06/13/06 - 10:32:10 AM
I enjoyed the chanting and the drumming on this track! It sounds very
well put together. It sounds as though you've incorporated African
tribal music with middle-eastern. Awesome!!! Arn't Apples cool???!!!
Wow! I know that putting a piece like this together can be a challange.
Most people would most likely drag this tune out until it became too
long to bear. You've kept it within a very reasonable time. (Length).
Some of the vocals have a great haunting aura about them! I love that!
Excellent job!
Oh, by the way, it would have been nice to hear YOUR voice in there as
well, but you make up for it by posting other tunes of yours. You do
have a lovely voice. Hope to hear more from you! Peace!
P.S. I noticed that on your track "Sweet Baby", you mentioned that your
husband doesn't listen to the music you've created. That's a shame,
because I think he's missing out on something really great.

wow &mdash 05/29/07 - 11:00:40 PM
i just heard this one for the first time. i'm really impressed that you put this all together with JP5. i haven't tried anything like this as my love of ethnic folk music is limited to an appreciation as opposed to an understanding of the musical dialog. you got it wired. excellent job. [ Reply to This ]
Chanks &mdash 05/29/07 - 11:14:07 PM
Thanks, Michael. I swear I'm just making this up as I go along, but I do love arranging and wish I didn't have to choose between doing that and singing and/or practicing the guitar and piano. I don't know that I really understood the musical dialog, as you put it. I really just arranged this the same way as I do everything. It's almost like laying railroad track. I build one piece of the song, pretty much completely and then when I think it's done, I go on to the next few measures and hope that I did it before things got too boring, but not while they were still too interesting.
You know, I really appreciate the listening you're doing to my older songs. Thanks so much for that! You're such a talented musician that it's very flattering. [ Reply to This ]
that's &mdash 05/29/07 - 11:30:45 PM
pretty much what i do as well (make it up as i go along). i really think you show an innate understanding of this music though. but it is also in the vein of dead can dance (who i love).
forgot to mention: love your new pic. [ Reply to This ]
